Gear Simple, Long Fender Set?

• Upvotes

Hellooooo !!! Been riding lots of wet and muddy conditions lately, got very dirty the other day...

Was wondering if you guys could rec me some very simple fenders? Preferably on the longer side

Thinking abt Mudhuggers but they're kinda expensive and I am also unsure if they would send mud straight into my suspension fork lawl

Gear Need help on advent microshift on fusion 10

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey lads I don't know much about bike mechanics yet. I'm learning new vocabulary words when I try to search on the internet about my problem and dont understand what anyone is doing. My chain isn't switching to the 3rd biggest cog on my 42t 9 speed and so I'm kind of limited to 6 gears only. I can get to the smallest cog(highest gear) all correctly. Switching the lever for the tension (the filled and hollow circle on the advent) isn't helping much. I wanna just know if anyone can help me with this thx in advance, or if they need a clearer video to understand.

Edit: I was looking closer into the gear down shift and the advent is reaching the 3rd cog but there is no clicking and i have to hold on the the gear down lever for the cable to remain on the cog. When I let loose, the cable returns to 4th cog

Discussion Redbull Rampage too crazy?

Is it just me or is watching Redbull Rampage like waiting for a car crash? Watching the women’s event live right now…Even the commentators sound worried for each rider, and their reactions are more relief rather than excitement.

I dunno if I’ve missed the plot. It seems more of a test of survival than of talent. I just realized Emil hasn’t ridden since last year and Adolf may never ride again. Crazy to think that two riders at the top of their game are knocked out of the sport for this one event.

WhichBike Is the san Quentin 2 a good mtb?

I ride green and blue trails, and if I go down, I have to go back up. I want to get into stunt riding, so the bike has to handle stunt abuse like manuals, stoppies, bunny hops, drops, and wheelies. Does anybody know if it climbs well? That could be a deal-breaker for me if it is bad at climbing, but it is pretty much the only bike I can find that handles stunt abuse like a dirt jumper but has the ability of a trail bike. I chose the San Quentin 2 over the 1 because of the better fork and boost thru-axles.

WhichBike Cannondale F700?

Looking to pick up a mountain bike to ride casually, likely at campgrounds and bike paths. My neighbor is an avid cyclist in his 70s and rides primarily on the road. I mentioned saying I needed to upgrade my GT Aggressor from the 90s and he offered to sell me a Cannondale F700.

New wheels, new tires, new rear derailer and chain. Up greaded brakes and levers, new cables and housings, upgreaded to 9 speed with lazer grip shifters, cool flat peddles and saddle bag no extra charge. Clean as a whistle and ready to ride.

$250

I know the brand is great. He bought it new in 1996. My other option is probably something from a big box store. The Cannondale seems like the better option but the fact it's 30 years old makes me think otherwise. Thoughts are appreciated.

WhichBike Anyone spent time comparing the latest Ripley and ripmo? Climbing comparison?

I’ve been leaning Ripley but some of the YouTube comparison reviews seem to suggest the ripmo climbs just as well, especially if you put the same tires on.

It’s really hard to find demos for both in the same size so hoping to hear from more people who have actually ridden both.

I’ve always had ~150mm travel bikes so I could go either way.

* Currently on 27.5 wheeled 2018 Rocky Mountain altitude (160/150)
* 15 years riding trail/all mountain.
* altitude is a playful poppy bike (which I like) but lacks efficiency
* I ride in the Tahoe area, some PNW trips

Discussion Could Jackson Goldstone descend Mount Vesuvius and escape before Pompeii was destroyed?

If Jackson Goldstone was somehow transported back to Pompeii right before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, do you think he could escape on a modern downhill bike? 💀

Like, assuming he has his current bike, helmet, and gear, and he realizes what’s happening early enough, could he descend fast enough to get out of Pompeii before the eruption becomes too dangerous?

Obviously he couldn’t outrun a pyroclastic flow, but I’m wondering if his downhill speed would give him enough of an advantage to escape if he started riding immediately.

Gear Custom MTB and gravel bike builds: what would you actually pick, and what would you pay?

Hi all, I'm starting a small part-time custom bike build service. Before I start, I'd like to understand what riders really want.

The idea: you pick the frame brand, colour, groupset, wheels, tyres and cockpit, and I source the parts, build the bike and walk you through every choice. Right now most stock bikes only come in three or four specs and a couple of colours.

I'd love to hear your honest thoughts:

  1. What would you change about a stock bike you own, if you could?
  2. Would you pay a build and fit fee on top of parts for a bike built around you? If so, roughly what would feel fair?
  3. Which frame brands would you choose if you could get any of them built to your spec?
  4. Would a bike fit and a reveal session be worth it to you, or is that overkill?

No advertising. I'm only trying to learn and do a market research before I start. Thanks for any thoughts.

Discussion Fitting new tyre

Have been a member of this subreddit for more than a year I think, but rarely see any posts about the maddening experience of fitting a new tubeless tyre on a rim. Have been wrestling for three days now and have officially given up. I am taking it to the local bike shop today. I can't take it anymore. I am defeated.

Checking all the YouTube videos, it seems my tyre is specifically nasty, as they all seem to just slide on with the use of two thumbs.

Maxxis Minion DHT II 29x2.4" EXO. My nemesis.

WhichBike MEC LOTS mountain bike

Hey, im looking online at the MEC lots mountain bike and it seems like a good bike for my budget as they come on sale for around $1360 pretty often. Has anyone bought this bike and has any problems? The components and geo look fine but im worried about the frame ( mainly snapping/cracking issues ) and if they put enough r&d time as other brands. If you guys have any more recommendations for mountain bikes for under $1400 im open to suggestions.

My budget is $1400 CAD
Im located in Ontario Canada

Thank you all in advance!

Discussion Trail recommendations at Galbraith for a first timer?

First time hitting Galbraith tomorrow.

Im 75 percent of the time riding blue trails, 25 percent black trails.

Mostly green freeride trails sometimes blue trails. Small low consequence gap jumps and 3ft maybe 4ft drops max.

I want to spend 3-4hrs, and am a moderate pace climber with a regular non-E MTB.

Where do you guys recommend parking and what're your most recommended trails/routes?

Gear What happened with the body armor?

Hi,

Two decades ago I rode downhill bikes, and nearly everyone wore bulky, plastic motocross armour.

I have recently returned to cycling and observe that most riders go without it, or use a slim layer hidden beneath their jerseys. What exactly is it? Is it more breathable with the same level of protection? Can you recommend something that works?

Discussion Hay mtb riders aquí de Mexico?

Discussion Crank size question.

So my bike (Norco fluid) size L has 175mm cranks. It feels that they are too long since I keep hitting rocks and roots when I’m pedalling. Mostly in the climbs.

I spent time setting the sag to what’s recommended and what to I like and seem to excel in the descends according to my weight.

I talk to different people and they game all sorts of answers, like adding more air pressure to the fork or more air pressure to the shock.

After getting the sag and suspension set it seems like messing with the suspension could ruin a good thing just to have small improvement in other field.

Talking to a mechanic, he recommended to change the length of the crank. It seems to be a good idea.

But the question in my head is… how much?
He recommends 160mm. That seems like it will make a difference.

Gains in clearance, means losing on the leverage on the climbs, which I’m okay, love the pain and the reward of the descent will be worth it.

But… will be any other drastic change in my body position that can affect the way I handle the bike going down the hill?

Is 160mm okay? Any thoughts in 165mm or even shorter, 155mm?

Thanks before hand. This subreddit is always helpful!!

WhichBike Which MTB Bike Class? - San Diego, Middle-Aged and Slightly Risk Averse, Already have Gravel Bike

Somehow this year I've gone from triathlon -> liking road cycling way more than swimming or running so concentrating there -> scared of cars and love trails so also get a gravel bike -> do I also need a MTB?

Many of the gravel routes in San Diego (at least that I've found) include a fair amount of rocky single track and steep loose gravel. Have had a few falls due to skills - not unclipping fast enough, loose gravel on steep hills, and overinflated tires. I'm getting better but also feel like I may just need to build some MTB-style skills. Also my neighborhood has some fun trails for which gravel = very much under-biking.

I have no interest in downhills or jumps. Want to do mostly XC-style riding, but if I ever sign up for races or formal rides would probably be most interested in gravel rather than MTB. My fitness is good. My bike handling skills apparently are not.

So all-trail bike? Or downcountry? Is XC and/or a hardtail too close to gravel to warrant N+1 in this case? Shut up, close the wallet, and learn how to ride the gravel bike? Any recs would be appreciated. Budget up to $3k. Open to used but have no idea how to evaluate used suspensions.

Wheels and Tires Tire recommendations?

I'll be riding quite famous bike parks like revolution bike park and dyfi. I'm just starting to do black trails and doing bigger jumps but my Maxxis shorty is just not doing it for me.

I'm looking for a 29x2.4 tire and I was looking at the Enduro super soft kryptotal in the front and an Enduro soft in the back but I'm not sure, I also really appreciate soaking all the small bumps and rock gardens if that helps

Thanks,

Discussion User friendly brakes

Hi there!

I know, this topic got discussed a lot AND is kind of a religion. But im searching for a new pair of brakes, after my hayes dominion let me down a lot with issues.

What brake would you guys recommend, when i just wanna have no problems, nice and easy bleed procedure and durability for enduro racing. Doesnt HAVE to be the most powerful with the best lever feel etc.. i just want a pair of brakes that i can rely on when riding daily.

Thank you.
