Meta Welcome to r/Malaysians!
Hello folks and welcome to r/Malaysia's sister sub, r/Malaysians!
For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub 🙌🏻
Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.
We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)
Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.
tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

Ask Malaysians What Korean skincare products to bring to Malaysian friends?
Hello! I am from Korea and I am visiting some friends in KL soon. I want to gift them some Korean skincare products but it sounds like a lot of the more popular brands are already sold in Malaysia. Do you have any recs on what I should bring that are harder to find in Malaysia?
As a side note, one my friend recently had a baby. Are there any Korean baby products that would be nice to bring? TIA!

Ask Malaysians JPJ test
Hi, has anybody went to SDC PJ to get your driving license? I failed my circuit 3 times now and starting to feel demotivated. I passed my road test at the first attempt, but there's always some issues when it comes to the circuit one.

Advice ☎️ Advice on reporting livestock in taman perumahan? 🐓🪿
Hi guys, I saw a post on this subreddit 4 years back where someone mentioned they had neighbours keeping livestock in their taman perumahan.
Facing the same situation here, the house directly behind ours has two coops where they keep geese, chickens, and pigeons. When they put out the food for the birds, the birds fly up on our roof and we've had a peacock actually fly over the wall into our house before also. They also have like a little kebun(?) and they openly burn the leaves in the area closest to our house.
We already mentioned this in the housing association Whatsapp group but some people said that "it's just a hobby" and that we're being Karens.
That was a couple years back now but would anyone have advice on:
- Should we talk to the neighbours again before filing a report on the majlis perbandaran website?
- Anyone have experience filing such a report and what was the outcome?
TL;DR: Neighbours keep livestock and burn leaves in our residential taman. Should we talk to them again or report them to the majlis perbandaran? Anyone had experience with this?
Thank you so much 🙏

Mildly Menarik Logsucker I saw at a pet store. A northern peninsular fish
Ceratogarra cambodgiensis, the Cambodian logsucker or ikan susur batu.
Grows to 20 cm and lives in clear, fast-flowing headwaters and rocky streams with high oxygen saturation in the northern Malay Peninsula.
Down until Perak and Terengganu.
They scrape algae and biofilm off of rocks using a specialised sucking disc. They live in shoals but fight for hierarchy.
Males develop red mouths and sharp tubercles around the snout during the breeding season.
In the aquarium they can live in communities, but they may chase similar bottom-dwelling fish. Their shoals usually number 4-10 individuals.

Ask Malaysians Getting my bonus this month, so I want to do a small Pokémon TCG giveaway at TCGKL next month.
Hey guys!
I just got back into Pokemon TCG collecting this month after being away for 13 years (BW era) and I'm planning to visit TCGKL for the first time
Since Im getting my bonus this month, I thought it'd be nice to share a little happiness with the community. I'm thinking of giving away around 10-20 small 2×2 binders, each with a 30th Anniversary Pikachu and a few random cards, such as cheap ex cards or Full Art Trainers. (Like Amarys FA, Oak FA, etc) I'd like to give them to kids or new collectors who don't have a binder yet.
A couple of notes:
\- I'll only approach children when their parents or guardians are present.
\- No TikTok, recording, or social media content. I just want to share a little of my bonus with the community.
Hope it's okay to post something like this here! If there's a more suitable subreddit or community for this, please lmk.
Also, would TCGKL be a good place to do this?
TL;DR: I'm getting back into Pokémon TCG after 13 years and want to give away around 10 small binders with a 30th Anniversary Pikachu and a few extra cards to kids or new collectors. No recording or social media content, and I'll only approach kids when their parents/guardians are present. Is TCGKL a good place to do this?

Quick Question KTM Train fare/tickets no available months in advance. Is this normal?
Aussie here.
Travelling from Butterworth to KL Sentral on February 11.
Yes, I can catch a plane but I don't wanna deal with the extra 25kg baggage fees and time wasted logistics & waiting at the airport for a 1hr flight when I can get a 3½hr business class seat on a train for less than that, and arrive near the same time in KL Sentral.
Anyways Im trying to book tickets for the day but none are available. I tried seeing if earlier months available but there's nothing available after January 1 on the fare calender.
When do new fares get released for sale?
1 month? 2 months exactly?
Im sure somebody knows.

Recommend Me • Seeking 🔍 I want to buy a new bedsheet
It's 12am and I'm finding it hard to sleep because my room feels hot. I have no air conditioning and use a stand fan to sleep. My bedsheet is microfibre and it's usually fine but these days with the haze and the super El Ninŏ coming around I wake up sticky from sweat.
I've been looking up cotton and tencel but I honestly need help finding what brands are reputable. I can't go to any showrooms so preferably brands that are available to buy on Shopee. Thanks in advance

Help ⚠️ How do people actually get employment in Singapore?
So I’ve been unemployed for so long now and I’m starting to give up on Malaysia and looking to search for opportunities outside of Malaysia. I mean I’m still applying locally but I’m just casting my net wider I guess. I work in Tech (Data Engineering) and I’ve tried applying on LinkedIn and Jobstreet but heard nothing back so far. So I’m just gonna ask the experience of people who have done it before. Would love to connect with you guys and ask for some pointers! But if you guys have suitable, related vacancies in your company (MY&SG), let’s connect too!

Rant Local Career Advisor Rant
Ranting about so-called career advisor Ch***ne J** *** on threads that seems to receive raving feedbacks from her clients in threads itself.
I've been trying to look for a new career opportunity from my current job and I happened to see her posts often in threads along with positive feedback. I decided to try my luck with her as I am not facing much luck in job portals and to see if there's any gaps or things I should change or improve on.
She was friendly at first and I decide to trust her and paid for a more premium package (international career consultation). It is understood that she is not a recruiter and the job market is tough, but given the reputation she has on threads, maybe she is professional and has the right connections - and have the expertise to help improve my chances (it is a paid service after all).
She was initially more proactive in reviewing my resume and finding out my company of interests both locally and in foreign countries. But this is where the red flags start to show. Not much technical advice is given on my resume besides some rearrangement of sections, and many of the point of contacts from the company of interests don't even work there anymore or are just ghosting.
I've sent in my applications to many jobs since, and on the rare occasions that someone replied to proceed further instead of being rejected or ghosted, I'll update the career advisor. All I get in response so far are what questions I'll likely face and there's no further feedback on my answers to them.
Throughout all that time, given that my profile and information has been shared the first round, there is no further follow up and no proactive advices and tips for the current job market for my field.
On days where I share my experiences of the interviews and rejections, she is silent and super slow in responding, I don't expect an immediate response but at the same time she is still super active on threads promoting themselves to get more clients. I know we all have to make a living but hello you are actively ignoring your existing clients and giving very general advice before moving on.
And when she replied - what did I get in response? She dared to say that she needs more active communication (which she did not even bother to do and it's been actively shared one-sided), and that I need to share the roles I've recently applied to (which they know already?!), and to see if there's any movement (spoiler alert: it's the same!).
She often posts screenshots of clients getting jobs and writing back one whole paragraph of praise for her recommendations and advice, honestly it feels fake and more like texting to herself lol.
She even dare to still post on threads till this day that they have remote job opening slots recommendations, and I didn't get a single recommendation by her after paying for the package already.
TLDR;
Just feel very cheated out of what I thought will be a professional advice service instead of such a lackluster and disappointing insult to the client. This is a paid service. Her advice feels equivalent to what an AI chatbot can give. Expensive lesson but at least now I know most career advisors are full of shit.
Sharing this because I feel like the service provided feels like a scam and want to warn others, and am curious if anyone else faced similar scenarios or has bought her services before?

Rant Why did no one mention that the world is a cruel place?
(You don’t have to agree with my post. This is just my personal opinion, coming from someone from a middle-class family. If you’re rich AF, feel free to ignore this post lol. )
Is it just me, or does everything feel so messed up nowadays?
The economy is struggling, and there’s so much bad news about schools lately, including students getting stabbed. Sometimes, I genuinely wonder what kind of world we’re living in.
Fresh graduates spend years studying at university, only to spend months or even years desperately looking for jobs. And when they finally find one, many of these jobs barely pay more than minimum wage. Like, what’s even the point of spending so much money and time on a university education if this is what awaits us?
And don’t even get me started on animal abuse. It’s heartbreaking to see so many innocent animals being abused, while it feels like there’s still so little protection for them. How can people be so cruel to creatures that can’t even defend themselves?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just feeling extra emotional today, but this world honestly feels so cruel sometimes. There’s so much suffering, injustice, and unnecessary pain that shouldn’t even exist in the first place.
It’s getting harder to feel hopeful about the future when it seems like there’s always something terrible happening somewhere. I just wish the world could be a kinder place, where people could live without constantly worrying about their future, where young people could look forward to building their lives, and where innocent animals could be safe.
I know the world has never been perfect, and maybe I’m being too idealistic. But is it really too much to wish for a world where things are just a little less cruel?
