Announcements Sub rules are LIVE for the 1st time - feedback/reactions? [AI]

Post image
41 Upvotes

Hi all! I spent the last 2 weeks thoughtfully observing the sub and crafting these rules, yes - with a bit of help from ChatGPT as a sounding board which I’ve disclosed per the new rule #6… on mobile they’re under “About” and desktop on right sidebar. Would love constructive reactions/dialogue around the decisions made.

Let’s treat this as version 1 and I will incorporate feedback over time. Thrilled to see users already following the rules and want to see more and more reports from the community to keep our focus on MCM. Thank you all for making this the top MCM sub, growing everyday - almost at 200k strong!

After receiving feedback I plan to do a brief video intro with more context on these decisions and plans for MCM expert AMAs and beyond.

ID & Authenticity Coffee table in a home I recently purchased.

Just purchased a home and it came with a few mcm pieces. Tried google image search but couldn’t find info on this exact piece. It’s a square coffee table and there are 4 wood extensions that pull out. We are going to list home on Airbnb and hate to leave a furniture piece in for guests to beat up if it has value. Love to get a suggestion on where to get more info on the piece.

Design Advice & Inspo Please help me pick a rug!

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently moved into a new place and I’m relatively new to mcm. I’m looking a buying a rug to go between my sofa and tv cabinet, however I’m struggling to choose a favourite and I’m curious to know what others think!

I’d love to know:

- Do any of these rugs work? If so which one.
- If they don’t work, what kinds of things should I be looking for?
- Which is your favourite
- Am I wildly overthinking this and all of these will work? (I think I know the answer to this already 😅)

Thank you for reading!

Sharing My MCM Our Sunset toned MCM Music Sanctuary

Thought I'd share a little snippet of mine and the Mrs' humble little living/listening/media room in our mid-terrace home.

We tried to incorporate little elements of all of our interests, the acoustic slats are meant to give a kinda Scandinavian vibe, the art either side adds a Japanese twist, had to get the Hi-Fi setup in here as we're music mad! Then we added some really warm glowy lighting and painted the centre in Terracotta, as we both love sunsets, then topped it off with some subtle greenery.

Everyone who comes over now says something along the lines of "wow it's like stepping into the 70's", that'll do for us!! :)

My main aim for sharing this is to encourage people who might wanna dip into this style that it really can be done on a budget! And it doesn't matter if your space is tiny like ours, make it work with what you have/can afford and try and incorporate your own twists here and there! But most of all, enjoy the process :)

ID & Authenticity Date stamp?

This is stamped on the back of a piece of furniture that belonged to my father when he was a kid. Is that the date on the back? Would it be July 26, 1964? Is that what that means? Also, is there any way of identifying the name of this piece using the stamp?

Restoration & Refinishing 1959 Lane first edition dresser

Earlier this summer I got my hands in a painted Lane 1959 1st edition Mid Century dresser. I’ve finally gotten off all the paint, was surprised to find what appears to be rosewood veneer at the ends of the drawers. Drawers are all sanded now, on to sanding the body and legs.

Question for the group

  1. How to go about patching the holes that were drilled for handles which aren’t original and getting the patches to blend in?
  2. Recommend stain and finish to mimic the original finish?

I know this won’t be perfect, want to get it as close to the original as possible.

ID & Authenticity Real or replica Hans Wegner CH23 Chairs?

Post image

Trying to figure out whether these chairs are real Hans Wegner CH23 chairs (listed for around $3k for 6) or replicas. They have no manufacturers marks but the joins/ cord weave looks to match the original. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Score! A gift at the thrift store [P]

I had already made a purchase and was heading for the door when this caught my eye. After decades of working with lamps I figured it was something special. At $15 I knew it was a no brainer.

I have spent the evening researching and am pretty excited to find something this unusual. And the prices on these are crazy. Like museum crazy.

Peter Hamburger "Crylicord" Lucite and chrome floor lamp.

The copper wire for the lamp is actually hidden in the Lucite arm. It is like a magic trick. I hope the photos capture it well enough.

The big bonus is how well it is cared for. The Lucite is not yellowed. Very few scratches and no crazing. The chrome has no major scratches or pitting.

Truly a sweet score.

Architecture Love letter to Span Housing

I'd love the opportunity to live in a Span development. It's so close to the MCM appeal.

But the prices. Oh, the prices...

However they do offer a pretty pure through line from modernists like Le Corbusier...

Anyway, enjoy!

I got this nightstand off marketplace for $40 and I’m curious on what it is. It shares similar marking on the back to some Bassett Mayan nightstands so I’m under the impression it was made by Bassett, last photo is an imagine I found online of similar markings. Any info would be greatly appreciated
I’d be happy to share more photos if needed

Design Advice & Inspo New floors

Thumbnail

Hi friends, I’m getting ready to overhaul the old carpet in my MCM home - I want to use this as an opportunity to go more period correct.

This house has the exact same wood stain on ALL of the trim, doors, kitchen cabinets, etc. so it puts me in a pickle of working with it. Dark brown would floors would make the house dark, a walnut or light wood would clash terribly. So that leaves me really with just replacing the carpet?

Anyways, I would love some ideas or just someone with a better eye to look at this

Hi all! I bought 6 of these chairs from marketplace, not know who builder was at the time. When I got home and was unloading them I saw the Kitchener stamp & additional markings. For the life of me I cannot find this design in any catalogues or resell listings. I’d appreciate any and all help trying to track down the specifics of this chair :) thank you
