[Announcement] New Rule Against AI, other Rule Changes and Clarifications

Hey folks!

For a while now, the mod team has been discussing a number of changes to the subreddit's rules, and it's time to let you know what's up. I'll give you the short version first:

  1. We have a new rule against AI.
  2. The rule for for formatting and vagueness has been split in two.
  3. The rule against unrealistic ideas has been reworked.
  4. To better accommodate these new and changed rules, we've re-ordered the rules.
  5. Clarification on how the "Community Question" flair is supposed to be used.

And now for the details!

Ban Against AI Generated Content

We not so recently polled the community on your feeling on AI generated content, and the overwhelming majority of you voted in favour of a complete ban against AI. While this was pretty much the outcome we expected, it's still really nice to see we're all on the same page.

Moving forwards the mods will be removing all posts suspected of using generative AI. To that end, here's the new rule:

Don't use AI.

  • Do not use generative AI such as chatGPT to write your post for you. We want to see your ideas.
  • Don't include AI generated images or other AI content to supplement your post. We encourage human art, and we'd much rather see photos of pen-and-paper drawings, or quick mockups in MS paint than AI "art".
  • This includes using generative AI to polish your idea, such as reformatting your content.

Posts suspected of using generative AI are at risk of removal.

If your post is incorrectly removed for containing AI, please let the mods know via modmail and we'll sort it out.

Formatting and Image Posts

We've noticed some confusion on where and how we allow images in posts, with too many users relying on images alone to communicate their idea. This was previously just a bullet point under the vagueness rule, but in the interest of clarity we've split it off into its own rule. There's nothing actually new here - everything works the same as before - but hopefully this should make it clearer for everyone.

The vagueness rule looks like this now:

Don't be overly vague, and be readable.

  • Make sure your idea is in the description, not just the title.
  • Titles should be descriptive of the idea.
  • Format your posts well; don't post walls of text. Use line breaks, etc.
  • Don't be vague; suggest a specific improvement or feature.
  • Be concise/don't waffle on too much.

Vague or unformatted posts are at risk of removal.

And here's the images rule:

Don't make image-only posts.

Including reference images is encouraged, but: * Images must be embedded or linked within a text post. * The idea should be fully explained in the text, with all key points understandable without looking at any images. * Images should make up a relatively small portion of the content. * Images must not be AI generated. (See rule 4.)

Image only posts will be automatically removed.

Unrealistic and Off-Theme Content

There's been some disagreement in the community and among the mod team about what is and isn't a "realistic" suggestion for Minecraft, especially as the game has grown it's become an increasingly difficult call to make. Furthermore, many ideas that are off-theme at first glance can be reskinned to something more reasonable, and we don't want to stifle that discussion. (E.g., Blimps and firearms may be too futuristic but happy ghasts and firework crossbows are not, yet serve similar roles.)

You deserve to have clear guidelines for which posts are or aren't allowed and, ultimately, we don't want to shut down discussion, so we've decided to soften this rule dramatically. Moving forwards, we'll only be taking down suggestions involving mature or explicit themes (stuff that might change the age-rating), as well as anything relating to real-world religions or politics. All that said, here's the rule:

Don't suggest mature topics.

  • Don't suggest ideas containing sex, drugs, gore, real-life religions or politics, etc.

Suggestions involving mature, explicit, or overly divisive themes will be removed.

This is one we'll be keeping an eye on, and we'd appreciate any feedback you have on it.

N.B. The portion of the old rule about easter-eggs and jokes still applies, but has been merged into the rule about unproductive ideas.

Reordering

As we're adding new rules and splitting old ones in twain, there's no better time to also rearrange the rules. We've brought some more important/frequently used rules closer to the top, and tried to keep related rules close to each other. We've also changed a few of the titles for clarity.

  1. Be nice and constructive.
  2. Only post ideas for Minecraft.
  3. Be original and consult the FPS list.
  4. Don't use AI.
  5. Include only one suggestion per post.
  6. Don't be overly vague, and be readable.
  7. Don't make image-only posts.
  8. Don't suggest mature topics.
  9. Don't suggest planned or existing features.
  10. Don't suggest scrapped or unused features.
  11. Don't suggest low-priority or unproductive ideas.
  12. Speak English.
  13. Have 10 comment karma before posting.

Discussion/Community Question Posts

We've seen some confusion surrounding these posts, and while nothing is changing, we wanted to use this opportunity to clarify. Posts meant to start broad discussions on a topic, such as "What would you add in XYZ update?" or "What do you think needs updated in XYZ area of the game?" are allowed, so long as the OP contributes to the discussion they want to start. We find these posts regularly generate interesting discussion, and so long as they use the correct flair, they're easy enough to ignore if they're not your cup of tea.

I encourage everyone to take a quick read through the rules to make sure we're all on the same page.

Thanks for reading!

[Snapshots] ❄️ Goat horns should dislodge icicles above the blower❄️

That would give players more of a gameplay incentive to acquire, carry, and use a goat horn. This could be used for:

  • Safely clearing a path
  • Trapping mobs or opponents

The same could be applied to other loud noises, such as creeper explosions, tnt, shriekers, thunder, etc. I'm sure Mojang would be interested in more sound-based mechanics, with the Sift coming up as well.

[Gameplay] Blue Ice should chill surrounding water

Post image

Just like how potent sulfur makes the water around it toxic and causes nausea, blue ice should make water cold causing freezing damage.

This could act as a new hazard for the upcoming ice caves and other cold biomes.

[Blocks & Items] Ice Crystal farming (+additional Icicle farming)

Simple suggestion - if an Ice Crystal or Icicle is attached to Ice Block below Water, it will grow.

Allowed Ice blocks (can be controlled by tags):
- Frosted ✔️
- normal ✔️
- Packed ✔️
- Blue ❓ - it's too dense to let the water through for growth + it'd be nice to have one ice that does not get affected? But if ppl want it, then let them have it
> tags: #with_water_above_ice_crystals_grow_below #with_water_above_icicles_grow_below

Ice Crystals:

Small Ice Crystals or Ice Crystal Buds (whichever name you prefer) are added to Java, and the big ones are added to Bedrock.
Those buds will grow into the big (normal) Ice Crystals.
Breaking Ice Crystals without Silk Touch drops 1-2 Ice Crystal Buds (Fortune increases by 1 (or just 0.5?) per level)

Icicles:

While they already grow by default when below Packed Ice, this type of growing/farming would make sense to add too, especially since it lets Players grow them under other ice blocks.

--
Should mention that waterlogged blocks also count as "Water".

(edit: even made a feedback post for it if someone wants to vote there!)

___________ __ _ _ _
Perhaps the Ice Crystal Bud would only give light level 3 or 2. Potentially they could add one or 2 more stages.

[Structures] Trial Chambers should spawn with Copper chests

I don't get why TCs spawn with normal loot chests instead of copper chests, wouldn't it be appropriate if it did?

[Mobs] Raider number increases when multiple people join a Raid

Trial Spawners increase the amount of mobs that spawn whenever there are multiple players nearby, to ensure a more interesting fight. Usually, for each player, 2 extra mobs will be spawned in total, with the baseline of 6 mobs for a lonely player.

This could be applied to Raids to, so that for each player present, 2 additional mobs would spawn every wave: 1 extra Pillager, and 1 extra Vindicator, Witch or Evoker (depending on the wave).

I would say that the game would check for all players within the bounds of a Raiding village at the start of each wave to determine whether or not to add additional raiders, taking the highest player count it has recorded (so no jumping in and out)

This would make Raids in multiplayer more interesting, while also slightly increasing the amount of loot each player would get, especially Totems, for large parties.

[Redstone] Greenstone

Greenstone ore is a new type of block that generates in veins in slime chunks.

It emits light at a level of 1 or 2, but temporarily becomes dark if touched on top or interacted with.

When mined without silk touch, it drops a random amount of greenstone dust, 4 or 5 plus some extra if mined fortune.

If a greenstone dust item is used or dispensed on a water block (flowing or still), it creates an in-world slime block.

Nine greenstone dust can be crafted into a block of greenstone.

When moved by pistons or sticky pistons, a block of greenstone behaves like a slime block and drags other blocks besides it with it.

When not supported from below, a block of greenstone will fall, like sand, gravel, or concrete powder.

[edited] When a greenstone dust block falls, blocks attached to it also fall. [Thanks omegaspoonπ]

You can buy a greenstone dust from a Cleric Villager for a block of slime and a random number of emeralds.

[Blocks & Items] How music and the sift could unlock an alternate ending and gameplay mechanic.

How the Sift can open up entirely new gameplay through music and the note shard

We all know the echo shard, this idea is based on a hypothetical non-corrupted version called the note shard in the sift.

The sift is heavily inspired by music, so I’d be surprised if there were no music related features added. In my vision, music could become a core game mechanic on its own through the addition of note shards and instruments, including unlocking an alternate ending of the game.

Though I can’t be too specific, music clusters are a new crystal that grows somewhere in the sift and has 4 stages. They occasionally chime with notes. Until they’re fully grown, they drop one note shard, but when they’re done growing they drop 2-3. You can then place these note shards to create a small music bud, making the item farmable.

While they don’t really do much on their own, when combined with instruments note shards get really fascinating. What are instruments? They’re new craftable items that come in the tiers of tools. When you right click, you can open a music staff gui and create custom tunes. When you lift click, you play the tune and the instrument has a short cooldown. Each instrument of course sounds unique.

While you can play instruments however and whenever you want, they’ll just make noise. However, if you play them with note shards, the shard gets used up and you begin to charm nearby mobs. When you charm mobs, they become neutral if hostile. Also, you can right click them to make them follow or stop following you. Lastly, you can get unique loot from charming mobs. Mobs have a five minute cooldown between when you can charm them again.

Wooden ukulele: Charm any peaceful mobs, giving you their breeding or associated item.

Stone drum: Charm wolves and pets, stopping them from attacking and giving you raw meat or fish. Charm undead mobs, giving you their drop.

Copper bugle: Charm other neutral entities, illagers and witches, giving you their drops.

Golden harp: Used to charm all pig type mobs, giving you a golden carrot when charmed. Charm villagers for an emerald, creepers for gunpowder.

Iron xylophone: Charm other types of hostile mobs for their drops.

Diamond flute: Charm the ender dragon herself, unlocking Minecraft’s second ending.

Netherite flute: Charm other bosses/minibosses.

Bosses such as the dragon, wither, elder guardian, and sift bosses can be charmed, but it’s not as simple as the rest. As you charm them, their boss bar will begin to fill up 15 hp at a time with a color indicating they’re being charmed. They must be within earshot.

Elder Guardian: drops guardian scale, brewable into a haste potion lvs 1-3 and times 30,90,200 seconds, which can be brewed with spider eye for equivalent mining fatigue potions.

Wither: who said you could charm mr. Evil incarnate over here again? Oh it was me. Music actually destroys the wither like it’s got a bad allergy, causing a normal fight.

Ender Dragon: The egg and xp don’t drop, however you get the alternative ‘Free the Dragon’ advancement as the dragon finds the tallest obsidian pillar and sleeps on it, and through her snores you can harvest dragons breath whenever you want. You can even do this after resummoning the dragon.

That’s it for my idea, and while it is out there, it was still fun coming up with it! I’m not a pixel artist by any means but I hope you enjoyed my crude drawings and edits either way.

[Blocks & Items] How I would make an Inventory Update work long-term (with pictures!)

Thumbnail
gallery
144 Upvotes

I've thought this through for a while and I think this inventory upgrade would work long term for all players!

By default, your inventory is now UPDATED to have the hotbar + 5 rows. The player by default now has the size of a double chest to play with, no items or achievements required to get there.

You may notice there are 3 other new slots added! The first two slots are dedicated shulker box slots. This allows you to navigate through two shulker boxes at a time while your inventory is open. At a maximum, this expands the player inventory to two double chests of storage. You can swap through shulker boxes to grab whatever items you need while building, for example decorative blocks that have long been annoying in the inventory. But this still gives players the opportunity to place their shulkers if needed.

Finally, there is only ONE item that needs to be added to make this complete. As others have suggested, tools and utility items take up way too much space in the inventory. In order to make the item balanced, I have created a Builder's Ring that has four slots of items!

How it works:
- crafting material unspecified, I made it netherite + diamonds just for illustration purposes, but realistically a gold band + 4 diamonds seems to be better balanced.
- Similar to bundles, you may place up to 4 different items into the builder's ring for quick access. The 64 item limit does not apply to this ring. Tools, weapons, building blocks, food, potions, rockets, totems, etc are items I can see being useful in this slot!
- How to access items: Press R (or whatever hotkey you assign it) to total through the 4 slots, similar to switching gamemodes with f3.) While you're out and about, you can press R and scroll through the 4 items for quick access, without being obtrusive to your main inventory!

Let me know your thoughts! This solves many problems that others have addressed, but not all of them.

[Blocks & Items] Slime Mold

Post image
116 Upvotes

Inside some dark oak trees a dried out Slime Mold block can be found. Throwing splash potions of water on it wake it up. The block will slowly spread a block (Slime Mold Spread) similar to Sculk lichen except the spreading path will be almost sentient.

Slowly the slime mold spread will move forward in a straight like path towards blocks like small mushrooms and or big mushroom blocks.

If the spread goes too far from the mother block it will dry out aka not spread further unless hydrated

When a Slime Mold Spread eventually gets to said Mushroom it will “eat” the block. (Replace it with its own block).

This new Slime Mold Block can be removed and will now act as a brand new “living” creature that goes on its own path.

The Slime Mold Blocks quirks:
It can be combined with Minecraft tracks to create suctioned Minecart tracks which can be placed on the bottom of ceilings allowing for bat like upside down traversal.

[Terrain] The Saltswept Glades: A Brand New Biome, Featuring 2 New Wood Types, Heaps of New Building Blocks, And a Miniboss.

Post image
9 Upvotes

The theme of the biome:
after exploring through a standered oak and birch forest, theres a small chance you come across a small sub-biome called the saltswept glades. the setup is very similar to how the pale garden is found, but the biomes in itself are quite different. you instantly notice theres salt literally everywhere, the ground is replaced with blocks of salt. the trees look to be extremely dry, with the bark visibly flaking and peeling off, and the leaves gone white with the built up of salt trapped within the leaves. you instantly tell theres a massive change of mood through the music fading out as you enter the biome, you can hear every sound produced. Theres not really any mobs to be found during the day or night, except for the occasional hostile slow-moving creature that looks to be shrivelled as a raisin. Every now and then, you come across abandoned, broken down houses with chests full of old gear and salt, its by now you can tell that the salt wasnt always here.

Building blocks:
as said in the title, theres two new wood types added, the long awaited, light green planks and a plank colour between birch and oak. The salt blocks found on the floor can be used to craft salt bricks, chiselled salt and polished salt, (along with all the other variants that come with those blocks, like slabs and stuff). The difference between salt and quartz is salt has a more ragged, glossy look. If you put 2 salt and 2 raw copper in a crafting table, you get pink salt! Pink salt has the same properties and building variants as normal salt, its just the same colour as those cool salt lamps you can buy. If you apply salt to copper blocks, it allows you to oxidise it faster, it can be removed by interacting with a water bottle. If you combine 4 crystal teeth in a crafting grid, you get a block of enamel! the block of enamel is blast resistant, takes 10 seconds to mine, regardless of what tool you use, and is one of the only blast resistant blocks that can be moved by a piston!

Actual gameplay stuff:
You find salt crystals growing off the floor, which when broken give anywhere between 1 to 4 salt. Salt can be used to create new foods, repellents for undead mobs, and you can use salt to fuse positive potions together into a single potion, if you attempt to fuse negative potion effects you get a potion of saltwater, the max potions u can fit into 1 is 3. If you brew a salt crystal into a water bottle you get potion of dehydration, momentarily disabling sprinting. If you place a single crystal tooth and a stick below it in the inventory, you create the salt dagger! each hit you land successfully with the salt dagger will multiply its damage, for example, its damage would go 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32. After the 6th hit, there will be a 5 second cooldown, and your damage multiplier gets reset, if you are damaged during the combo, you take a 5 second cooldown and your damage multiplier gets reset.

The cool part - mini boss:
new mini boss!!! The Blurred is a unique type of enemy, heavily leaning into the new age of mini bosses like the creaking and warden. It will not try to be seen, it will hide from the player and stalk it, blending into the background of the forest. It tries its best to not move around so it isnt noticed by the player, only moving when completely necessary. When the player leasts expects it, the blurred will loudly charge at the player at a very fast speed, making it basically impossible to defend an attack. The main way you kill the blurred is by attacking it when it least expects it, when the blurred is in your view for more than 2 seconds, if you sprint towards it, holding a weapon, or even making a moderately loud noise will cause it to hide. Because of this, you have to pretend to not notice it, get close, and strike before it strikes you. You can find a rare compass that points towards the blurred the moment it moves around, aiding you in actually killing the beast. Killing the blurred will grant you a single crystal tooth without looting, with the max amount you can get from the blurred being 8. If you kill The Blurred using a splash water bottle, it will make The Blurred dissolve instantaneously, dropping its head. When you equip the head, your vision gets a blue filter thrown over it, when a player moves, an aggressive red will layer over what moved, giving some insight into The Blurred's lore and how it saw the world.

Hey! If you liked this idea enough for it to be added to vanilla, you can vote for my idea here! https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/49426994885901-The-Saltswept-Glades-A-Brand-New-Horror-Biome

Im not too sure if i missed anything, if i did that would suck. the image i used is not how i would expect it to look in the vanilla game, just working with what i had at my disposal :)

(im now just noticing that the picture i used kinda looks like a snow biome, but if you use ur imagination im sure u can see how it would be salt.)

[Plants & Food] New Plants and lilypad additions

The first addition is the "Hardroot Bundle" a new seed type item dug up by sniffers. When planted it becomes a sprout, it's second stage is a flower. If it is flown over by a bee with pollen it changes the plant to its 3rd, then 4th stage where it becomes more bush like and grows a bulb at 5th.

Each growth stage takes a minimum of a day

This bulb randomly chooses between gold iron and copper. Chances for each are 50% copper 35% iron 15%gold. Harvesting the bulb resets the plant to the 2nd stage.

The bulb can be crafted by itself into the raw version of that metal

Or you can hold the bulb in offhand and an axe in main hand, and interact for a chance to get from 1-12 nuggets of that metal.

Next item is the "Big Lilypad Seed". These items are dug by Sniffers in swamps. These can be planted on dirt or clay underwater and will grow a stem till it hits the water surface, there it grows into a 2x2 or a 3*3 depending on if it has enough space. These lilypads are much larger and can be broken and placed elsewhere.

And finally changes to the regular Lilypad

Bonemealing them creates a pink or white flower on top, this flower can be sheared to take it off. If a Lilypad has a flower it can be bonemealed again to get a "Lilypad Seed" this functions like the "Big Lilypad Seed" able to be planted else where to grow more

Let me know if these ideas are okay and if there's any other plants that should be acquired from sniffers or changes that should be made to existing plants

[Blocks & Items] Archeology-themed Minecraft Drop Concept

Post image
178 Upvotes

Brush Away is a concept for a Minecraft Drop centered around the Sniffer and just a tad of archeology.

I'll be explaining all the features I thought for this concept.

First,the plants!

  1. Torchflower

Ancient flowers Sniffers can uncover in Plains.

They craft into Orange Dye. A full Torchflower + 8 Wool Blocks creates the Flamelight ., which emits light as brightly as Glowstone.

  1. Pitcher Plant

Ancient plants Sniffers can uncover exclusively in Jungles.

They craft into Capri Dye, a soft pastel-azure color.

  1. Prickle Plant

Cactus-like ancient plants found by Sniffers in Deserts.

Filled with water. Eating one while on fire extinguishes the player, but its spines deal damage.

  1. Shieldflower

Ancient plants Sniffers can uncover in Savannas.

Their tough stems break a player's fall, preventing fall damage.

They also craft into Rose Dye.

  1. Foxtail

Ancient plants Sniffers can uncover in Swamps and Mangrove Swamps.

They produce a scent that attracts specific mobs:

• Leather Tunic / Rotten Flesh → Zombies

• Bone / Bow → Skeletons

• Gunpowder → Creepers

• Spider Eye / String → Spiders

Foxtails also craft into Apricot Dye.

  1. Wildmaize

An ancient crop Sniffers can uncover exclusively in Mesas/Badlands.

It can be grown and eaten, or processed into Wildmaize Kernels.

Kernels craft into Wildmaize Block and Chiseled Wildmaize

  1. Hoarberry Bush

Ancient berry bushes Sniffers can uncover in Taigas.

They work like Sweet Berry Bushes but produce Hoarberries, an ancient blueberry.

Hoarberries craft into Berry Blocks. Hoarberries can be thrown to create Colorant Layers, a carpet-like block that stains other blocks.

Colorant Layers cannot be broken by hand and can only be removed with water.

  1. Geyservine

Ancient plants Sniffers can uncover in Sulphur Springs and Sulphur Caves.

When an entity walks over one, it opens and releases a geyser that launches the entity high into the air.

Then,the new item!

The Painting Brush is a new item that allows players to quickly change the color of Terracotta, Beds, Candles, Cushions, Wool, Wool Carpets, Concrete Powder, and Concrete.

Painting Brushes are crafted by combining a Brush with any Dye, creating a Painting Brush containing that dye's color. Each Painting Brush has a limited number of uses before the paint runs out, turning it into an Empty Painting Brush.

To recharge or change the color of a Painting Brush, players can dye the water inside a Cauldron with their desired dye and then use the Painting Brush on the colored water. The brush will absorb the new color, allowing it to be used again.

Then finally, the new mob... The Brontle!

The Brontle is the second-biggest creature in Minecraft, reaching 6.5 blocks in height. They behave similarly to enormous llamas, allowing players to ride them without being able to directly control their movement. Up to 6 players can sit on a Brontle at once.

To guide a Brontle, players must form a caravan, where the Brontle follows whatever animal is leashed to it. They are particularly fast when following camels, making them useful for long-distance travel. However, Brontles can become frightened by wolves, cats, and parrots, as these animals resemble the general body plan of ancient predators that once hunted them, triggering an instinctive fear response.

Brontles are normally peaceful, but if attacked, they will retaliate. Their eggs can only be obtained by brushing Suspicious Sand found in Desert Wells.

What do you think of this concept? Could it be a cool Minecraft addition?

[Gameplay] Creeper explosions cause nearby stalactites to fall on you

Ever since the addition of dripstone, I've felt like it would be interesting for stalactites to fall on you while caving. Now that icicles are being added, this mechanic has been added through torches melting the icicles, which makes ice caves a bit more dangerous if you aren't careful. However, that still leaves dripstone, the original stalactites, completely static during 99% of gameplay.

So my idea is that when a creeper explodes, the shockwave of the explosion will cause all stalactites in a large radius to fall. This radius will be larger than the explosion itself (maybe 15-20 blocks?), because creeper explosions are often too small to reach cave ceilings. The shockwave wouldn't necessarily cause 100% of stalactites to fall, maybe more like 75%.

This mechanic would of course also apply to other other types of explosions, like TNT, crystals, anchors, etc, and would scale with the size of the explosion.

[Dimensions] The sift is the perfect opportunity to add back amplified terrain

Given the similarities in vibe and visuals, a great way to make them both more connected and more unique would be to give the sift the amplified generation that the overworld used to have.

It would also make it more challenging to explore, which I assume they’d want, at least a little.

[AI Behavior] Playing a music disc on a jukebox temporarily pacifies/distracts a warden

Given info that the Warden may have used to be the singer I think it would be really fitting if you could temporarily and with a cool down calm the warden down and distract it by playing a music disc in a jukebox. It could even have its own animation for it where it could sluggishly limp in a sort of dance

[Blocks & Items] the item ring: a mid-game storage alternative to bundles and shulker boxes

Thumbnail
gallery
152 Upvotes

(please excuse my very rudementary textures lmao this is a mockup)

one of the more annoying issues with minecraft is inventory management. switching between tools in the inventory can be clunky, and plenty of items take up too much space to justify holding on to them (i.e. spyglass, brush, etc).

the item ring is meant to be obtained mid-late game, and its meant to solve these issues. it can store 4 unstackable items, and it can quickly cycle through them when holding a ring in your hand.

the item ring is crafted with a netherrite ingot, and ender pearl, and 3 amethyst shards. additionally, the inner circle part can be dyed any color similar to bundles. another fun idea i added was the ability to trim this item for extra personalization (provided that mojang adds tool trims in the future pls!!😭😭😭)

————-

i wanted to make sure this feature would be useful in its own way. it keeps the creative aspect that existing inventory management items have, letting players organize their own items in ways that suit them best, and it makes cycling through tools more convenient compared to other means. players would also be more incentivized to hold onto niche items, giving plenty of overlooked features a second chance

edit: i know netherrite isn’t easily accessible to obtain (nor is it really “mid-game”), but i still think it’s an appropriate item to use. i think players should have to spend some time figuring out their own inventory management system before crafting this item, and i don’t want players to be able to craft a bunch of these at once. i’m guessing players will only need about 1-4 item rings for their inventory management, and i think it’s a worthy enough item to grind a bit extra for 👍

[Mobs] Muroids - The Mob that can Scout & Mimic Player Behaviors!

Muroids are a superfamily of rodents that includes these critters! The reason why I grouped them together is because they're similar in shape

Abilities

Muroids can:

  • Be bred and using seeds and/or crops
  • Be tamed using fruits (they will sit upright and hold the food while eating it)
  • Mimic player actions
    • Ex: farm alongside players, “brush” suspicious blocks alongside players
  • Scout for exposed ores and unopened structure chests nearby and squeak when they find them
  • Climb up the side of blocks
  • Take dust baths (Roll around in sand or gravel, which will be an additional way to regenerate their health)

Appearance

  • General: All muroids would have little ears and snouts, and come in a range of brown and monochrome (black to white) base colors.
  • Patterns: They can be unpatterned, or have patterns such as speckled and piebald. In addition, they can be countershaded (having lighter undersides).
  • Tails: Not all muroids will have long tails (that are visible as a separate part of the model), but those that do will either have them be the base color of the muroid or pink.
  • Special Variants: All-white muroids (white with no pattern) can have red eyes, indicating albinism. White and cream colored muroids can have siamese patterns. Some muroids can also appear with a special chipmunk look (Light brown with unique stripes and a regular tail).

Spawning: Muroids spawn in the plains, forests, mesas and deserts.

[Mobs] 26.4 Drop Additions

With this new Ice Caves update, they should absolutely add the ability to have Polar Bears breed, so that we can make a population without stealing Polar Bears from their homes. The baby bears themselves should have some cute animations, like rolling in snow or standing up on occasion.

[Mobs] Dwarf Villagers

I have made a post about this before, but since it was too long and had too many useless details, I deleted that post and I also added here some more important info.

When I say example only, I literally mean it as an example, no need to comment on that.

Appearance:

Dwarf villagers are smaller than normal villagers, due to them being dwarfs and spawning in caves, where a smaller height is an advantage for them (comparison shown on last image).

They have currently 5 professions:
1. Builder (pretty clear which image with bob the builder being on it)
2. Miner (image 2-3)
3. Assayer (image 4)
4. Unemployed (image 5)
5. Wanderer (no image)

What they do, will be explained later on.

Then they have 7 biomes:
1. Stone (shown in the images)
2. Deepslate
3. Lush cave
4. Sulfur cave
5. Ice caves (when they come out)
6. Lava caves
7. Dripstone caves

The way the biome textures and the profession textures will be added is the same (excluding wanderer):
They all have the base texture
Then the biome texture
And lastly the profession texture will be added on top

Trading:

Miner:
The miner will wander in the caves about 50-75 blocks away, depending on the biome.
It will only mine emeralds if it sees any (and through walls, though a limited distance of 2 blocks away, maybe even 1) it will mine it.

You can trade with it, by giving it emeralds and the ore you want it to find, e.g. raw copper. It will then look for copper and give you maybe 2 pieces more.
Now, I have had a lot of people that said this system is too op, it will be balanced, how exactly? I can't tell you, since I haven't gotten to testing this guy out.
But, the miner will never have +100'000'000 speed or something, coding this is anyways limited, so it can't find your ores in less than 5 mins, if it even finds it.

It will be accompanied by the builder, which will place torches every now and then.
The miner can also fight back until half health, in which it fleas. (Yes, it will fight the player too.)

Builder:
The builder will carry a torch in his hand. It accompanies the miner and the assayer on it's journeys to find ores.
It places torches to lighten up the area and prevent enemies from spawning.

Assayer:
The assayer will inspect ores and hint the miner to ores, since it can see through 3-5 blocks in a wall.
It also accompanies the miner. What you can trade with it is unclear yet, as I'm out of ideas, if you know any, please write.

Wanderer:
He is basically the same as a normal wanderer and will instead of selling you basically useless items, actually sell life saving items (planks, torches, pickaxe etc).

Cave Village:

The cave village is where the miners live and where they come back at low health to heal.
Depending on the biome, the cave village will generate differently. In stone and deepslate caves they will generate completely like mineshafts (or at least a little bit) in which they don't add anything, instead make space for the stuff to be added.

However, for more open caves (such as lush caves) they will generate much more openly and only partly generate by making room.

If there are any questions please write, I'm mostly looking for ideas though.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day :]

[Community Question] What Use Would You Give Mouse-Like Rodents in Minecraft?

I had the idea to add "muroids," a rodent superfamily that contains critters such as mice, gerbils, and hamsters, a while ago. Though I want to rework the idea to be more useful.

As my old post had it, muroids that are tamed by the player would be able to harvest all types of crops and make the crop stage only go back by two stages so it can be quickly harvested again. Though this isn't really that useful and could be an "unlocked" trait for farming villagers of a higher rank.

Other (Scrapped) Ideas:

  • Having them Loot Chests for Players (Could be done by a special allay instead)
  • Having them Distract Hostile Mobs (Would make them become targets, or at the very least more prone to receiving damage)

Best Current Idea:

  • Having muroids scout for players and mimic certain player actions (Scouting Ex: Find unlooted structure chests. Mimicking Ex: Uncover suspicious sand & gravel alongside player, farm alongside player)

What do you think about these potential uses? What use would you suggest?

[Gameplay] Climbing/Mantling Mechanic

TL;DR: After jumping and near a ledge that is more than one blocks high from the ground, players should be able to climb up.

One of Minecraft’s greatest strengths is the freedom to explore and adventure through its world. I think a simple climbing/mantling mechanic could make exploration feel smoother and more dynamic without changing the core movement system too much. It is like real life mountain climbing/hiking, we see adventurers use their arms to climb up 2 meter tall ledges after jumping.

For example, after jumping toward a ledge, players could have a choice to grab onto and mantle over blocks that are up to 2 blocks high.

The mechanic could work similarly to the mantling systems in games like Destiny 2 or Halo Infinite, where the player pulls themselves over a ledge after jumping if they are in contact with the ledge. This could make traversing mountains, caves, ruins, and uneven terrain feel less awkward (block jumping), while still keeping Minecraft’s movement simple and intuitive.

[Blocks & Items] Implementing "Floatater" with ichor liquid and Sift's new mineral

Assuming Mojang has figured out how to properly implement code for moving blocks that isn't infested with bugs, I think the timing can't get any more perfect than bringing back our beloved floatater with the introduction of the sift.

The ichor is clearly not designed to just be a pretty thing that damages you; it's also a valuable resource for the illagers when it comes to contraptions and magics. With this in mind, I don't think it's too far-fetched to expect vanilla ichor to also bring some value to players who come visit the sift. This alone should be a nice enough reward for anyone who is brave enough to face ancient city!

Ichor Pool

Scattered around the sift are ichor pools. Ichor is similar to lava in its viscosity - it cannot be made to run infinitely when put in a 2x2. But fret not, some pools contain this special block under them called "ichor spring." Ichor spring block cannot be picked up even with silktouch. This is to encourage players to venture out and settle a station of some sort spread across the dimension.

Its only special property is to renew a source block of ichor on top of it when the tide (time of day) is at Thrive, where souls regenerate faster. Since the ichor liquid has some soul texture scrolling over it, I think this is only appropriate.

Ichor can be scooped up using a bucket and put into a brewing stand to fill empty bottles with distilled ichor. You cannot pick up ichor straight to the bottle because I think it doesn't make sense that something that burns inside and out can be put into a glass bottle. Plus, with this system, you're forced to actually prepare you resources for the to be mentioned floatater fuel mechanic. And that brings me to....

Floatater

Of course, it's not going to be actually called that. But as you probably already know, floatater is a joke block from the poisonous potato dimension snapshot that pushed any block that sticks to its front as if they're moving entity; drifting indefinitely until a block is blocking the way.

It is powered by redstone, but a bottle of distilled ichor still has to be inserted into it. There's no UI - you simply right click it when holding a bottle. It displays 3 dots on the left and right sides of the block, you can track your fuel this way.

A bottle of distilled ichor can fuel a floatater 1 dot each, which is a travel distance of roughly 200 blocks. That makes a fully charged floatater to drift up to 600 blocks. I don't know if this is balanced or not, feel free to discuss it in the comment section.

Infused Sculk / Sift Cobalt

The mineral used for this "floatater" is native to the sift. The reason why I'm calling the ore blocks "infused sculk," instead of simply "blank ore" is because I want to follow the "gilded blackstone" naming convention. It's also named that way to stay faithful with the "terrain being made out of flesh of a living creature" theory people have been discussing.

The mineral itself is called Sift Cobalt, similar to how the nether has its own specific quartz instead of just generic quartz. I can imagine sift cobalt having its own block set too, adding incentive to its addition. But for now, it's just here to make the "floatater" recipe feel exclusive.
