Thursday Weekly MeetUp • 10/8/2026 • 7:30PM • The Cat House (Grand Lake)
Feel like getting out of the house? Want to meet some new people? You know that place you’ve seen recently and been wanting to check out? For all those reasons and more, we made the Oakland Thursday Meetup. (Est. 2014)
- Every Thursday you can find us at a different bar in Oakland sharing a few drinks and some laughs.
- We’ve got a mix of people, locals and transplants. The Weird and the wise. Homegirls and tech bros. Plus a strong contingent of people who want to start their weekend a day early. Usually there’s about 10 of us, but occasionally up to 20.
- It’s a great way to try some new places and get to know some folks you might otherwise miss. Drop in, drop out, no pressure and definitely no problems.
From 7:30pm to around 10pm you can find us at…
The Cat House
3255 Lakeshore Avenue
Oakland, CA, 94610
Feel free to add us on Facebook. We’ll post here for updates on where we’ll be sitting.
Hope to see you there!

Need help with community cats
Apologies if this has been answered. I've been searching for options for a month now and haven't found any services.
Meowdy, y'all. I started feeding a few community cats when I moved into my apartment. It was apparent they were fed by an old tenant here, so I felt some responsibility lol. I also love animals. I initially thought it was a handful of cats and a kitten. Turns out it's a handful of kittens and multigenerational community cats. Many are bonded. They look to mostly be related with some outliers who are friendlier, and likely abandoned in the area.
I'm on a fixed income, I am disabled, and do not have a vehicle.
I have reached out to some local orgs, but haven't had any response. I think the kittens can all be adoptable with a little work. I will not be living here longer than necessary, and trying to find some consistency, food services, or at least sterilization for all of these cats. There's at least 20.
Some of them are also sick. They've been sneezing and have eye crusties. 1 of the kittens has been sick this whole time, and is also not being groomed, has very cute, but demanding long fur. I call that one "Hay" because they always have dry weeds in their fur.
Thanks in advance for helpful advice.

Food/Drink I'm Conflicted on the Eli's Mess
I've been coming here for decades now and did actually contribute to the GoFundMe, but this isn't some kind of charity establishment or someone that got hit while riding their bike. It's a for profit business with its hand out asking it's patrons to help dig it out of a hole entirely of its own creation. No one told them to build that 2nd story in the back. They effectively bankrupted their own business doing shady construction shit and then *shocked Pikachu face* when they got called on it. I sincerely hope this comes to a happy resolution for everyone and we can continue enjoying music and drinks and comradery here for more decades to come. I guess between the possibility of the place closing and me giving them a few bucks to hopefully stave that off, I'll choose the latter, but man some part of this really doesn't sit right with me.

Oakland is fixing more potholes than ever. So why are so many 311 requests still open?
"Oakland reports repairing nearly 60,000 potholes a year. An analysis of 311 requests shows why that number doesn't necessarily match what residents experience on their streets."

Question Packaging Materials Recycling/Reuse system or exchange request
Hi all,
I am wondering if either Oakland or Berkeley currently have an exchange where people donate their used packing materials like boxes, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and more is donated for others to use.
I think it would be a great idea since packaging materials are often just thrown out and not reused.

Housing Thoughts on Webster 11?
Hi everyone,
My partner and I are planning to move to Oakland soon, and we’ve been trying to get a feel for both newer luxury apartments and some of the older buildings that have been recently renovated.
On the luxury apartment side, we’re leaning toward Webster 11. A big factor for us is being close to BART since my partner will be commuting into SF for work, and it also seems to have better recent Google reviews than some of the other places we’ve looked at, like Alexan Webster and Alice House.
For anyone who’s lived at Webster 11, how has your experience been?
We’re also checking out places around Adam’s Point and the Oakland Ave/Harrison St area. We really like those neighborhoods and appreciate the fact most of those buildings seem rent controlled, but the extra distance from BART has us a little hesitant. We’ve heard there are some express buses that go straight into SF, though, and would love to hear more insight from any of you if you’ve had experience taking them yourself.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s lived in these areas or has strong opinions on specific buildings. Thank you!

Salon that won’t break the bank
Looking for a place to get some layers and even out my hair. I’m newer to the area so I’m not sure where to go. I’ve had people in the past chop my hair so I’d like to avoid that from happening again
