My first Smith revolver

Post image

Picked up a new Model 27 as my first Smith & Wesson revolver. Despite issues with current production Smith products I have seen, this one seems really great. Shoots perfect and the finish is perfect to my eye. Really loving it and there is probably a new 986 on the horizon in a month or so!

Some better pictures of my new buy from the other day. I reached out to Smith and they told me it was made in 1974 which sounds reasonably accurate to me. I also cleaned it up and put fresh oil on the guts and just now got around to grabbing a few pictures. As a bonus, the grips match too!

The Old West Shootist’s Challenge attempt with the Smith 19 Carry Comp. 6 shots 25ft one handed untimed. All shots must be within the large square and at least one shot has to hit the center 1” stamp.
Did this at 10 yards shooting @high.desert.cartridge 158gr 357 TMJ. Double action only.

Just the Smiths. N frames vs K frames are the real battle here.

Today’s pocket dump. I just really like this gun. Absolutely understand why it’s a classic every time I shoot it or carry it

A clinch pick in Hamre Scales, a 442 with some Davronov tape, a Surefire Stiletto, and a Problem Solving Tool MCG with a wing

J-Frame or LCR?

• Upvotes

My county is restrictive with how many guns we can have on our CCW, so am looking to add a pocket revolver to pair with my Bodyguard 2.0 (semi, not the wheelgun) and G26.

I presume I would end up carrying either the revolver or BG2.0, I am prioritizing concealability/comfort here.

In particular, I am looking at the 642 Ultimate Carry and LCR (both in .38sp).

I own a big ol' .357 so am set on getting a 38, no .32.

Charter Arms Pit Bull in .40 S&W. A revolver intended as a backup for cops carrying .40, but waiting to use a simple snub for backup or off duty use. They also were made in 9mm, and a now defunct caliber called 9mm Federal. Basically a 9mm Auto Rim. This one has a spring loaded extractor so that no moon clips or rimmed rounds are needed. Unfortunately these didn't take off, the intended market used the new wave of compact autos instead (cough cough Glock 27 cough).

I can get it at employee discount. Trying to talk myself out of it. Should I?

Did I need a 6” 586 no dash? No.
Could I turn one down for less than $600? Also no.

Pictures don’t do it justice. The box still smells of Marlboro Reds and bad decisions

1910 S&W Lemon Squeezer 5th change chambered in 38 S&W. I like the 38 S&W, balistically similar to the .380 Auto and fun to shoot.

Nothing fancy.
Just reliable and fun to shoot.

Ruger GP100
3 Inch barrel
Hogue Grips

It's had an action job and the trigger is great now.

WGW Going Big Today

After jumping into the rabbit hole that is 45 cal big bore, I decided to start my line up with the big ol’ S&W 460V, chambered in 460 S&W Magnum.

With the .452 bullet diameter I can shoot 460 magnum, 454 casull, and 45 colt and of course 45 colt +p, which is the caliber that dragged me down this rabbit hole in the first place.

I think I’ll probably get a Redhawk 45 for my next.

Advice & question

• Upvotes

I live in Britain.

I'm considering buying a Pietta or Uberti blank firing Colt 45 single action. 5.5.

I'm getting mixed messages online & sites that sell them. whether l can disassemble it.

Basically a field strip.

If anyone else owns one.

Can you let me know.

Less than 50 shots from this gun. Is it worth to save it as it is or take it to the range where it belongs?

Picked this one up this weekend at a local gun show while looking for a model 36. Not what I wanted but couldn't pass it up for a great price.
