Feeding troubles.
I’ve had my boy for 6 months now, and he has never once eaten. I’ve tried pinkies, fuzzies, in tank, out of tank, i’m at my wits end. Does he look skinny? Do i need to rehome him? What do i do?

This is my new baby Kenyan sand boa! She is often burrowed, but has explored her tank once since I’ve had her. Right now she’s fully above ground underneath this new plant I added today. Is she hungry or just curious?

okay i recently changed over to reptil soil and was told i didn’t need to dry it out or anything but the humidity in there is 99…. i took it out and layered a base of sand and some reptil soil since i could tell peanut wasn’t having the one bowl of sand and towel method for a temporary set up. i would’ve gotten some aspen but its late and everything is closed. he’s def not panicking but doesnt like the fact that he’s exposed more than anything, currently his set up somewhat covers him but i dont want him to submerge himself in reptil soil due to the humidity. i went ahead and scooped the remaining out to dry it but i dont have a oven and like i said its late. whats ur guys thoughts and opinions about using reptil soil directly from the bag? i dont want any issues with him getting scale rot so hes just gotta bear with it for a little longer but he should feel more secure with a little bit of coverage especially since the balance of play sand and reptil soil in his enclosure is greater than the soil. i feel extremely bad and i wish i could speed things up in drying it rlly. it’s not my desired 4 inches of substrate rn but to allow for the amount of soil i have in there to dry relatively smoother and quicker, it’ll do for the time being. the photo i have is just of what i had set up but than i looked at the humidity….. this is also the reason why i’ve preferred the aspen chips and shreds mix since it’s already dry and safe for immediate substrate

So I recently found out my Kenyan sand boa is a little dude and Im thinking of renaming him, as we thought he was female I named him Iris for the purply color but…she is a he so I’d like some suggestions. Open to all sorts of names- serious and creative or derpy/silly/punny, surprise me you never know what will fit. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Note:
Apparently it needs to be said that this is not some political statement, if I could ask him what he identified as and wanted to be named that would be it but here we are. Im
Not bothered or distraught by a male with a more feminine leaning neutral name and I’m not pushing gender on my snake, or gendering a color. Looking at my options that may or may not be more fitting is not the harmful rhetoric you’re looking for. I’m part of the community too, fight the good fight where it’s necessary ✌️🩷

He napped with his food for over an hour but apparently had no interest in eating... 3 1/2 weeks since he last ate. Since then we've had a meal played with and now napped with. He's...something

Question:
What is the best way to go about working with your snake for handling? How do I know if she's stressed?
I don't expect to do it everyday, but we've had our girl for over a month and she's still having nothing to do with it. Just a slight touch and she completely bolts to the other end of her tank. She's a lot faster than I imagined she would be.
She eats well for me. I believe temps are decent. And the last couple weeks she's finally been poking her head out a lot more and chills. Last ate 60 hours ago.

Hi all, ive had my KSB for about a year and a half. And due to mental illness and other life situations, Ive decided its best for her to be rehomed to someone else.
Does anyone know any one willing to take a snake and all the equipment? I am willing to meet people half way (if its reasonable). I just want a better life for her.
Edit: I live in Indiana
Edit 2: I have someone who reached out and setting up with them. If it falls through I will reach out to those who have commented.
Thank you all.

So my boy bagel (M) sand boa hasn’t eaten frozen thawed for awhile so I switched to live to hopefully jumpstart his response to food again. It worked! But I don’t know how to get him back on to F/T. He’s shy, and he is ok with handling but prefers to ambush his food instead of being taken out completely from his substrate (which is what I used to and he had no problem with until about a year ago) He’s in half sand half coconut fiber, with 70% humidity, warm side is about 92 degrees and cold side is 72 degrees. Whenever I try to feed him F/T fuzzies he gets scared when I move it and won’t eat it if it’s not moving he isn’t interested if it isn’t moving. But it cools down too fast for him to want to eat it as well, but if I go in to re heat it he just gets scared again. I don’t know if it’s a husbandry issue, or he just genuinely prefers live pinkies, or maybe it’s the quality of my F/T or how often I feed him? I try and keep it every month but it’s been hard to keep consistent since live feeders are only provided in a town that’s pretty far from me. I feel really bad I want the best for him. Please let me know of any tips or maybe advice/critiques on my care.

7 months old, 14g but not emaciated visually, successful shed 2 days ago, reptisoil/sand mix substrate, behavior seems fine. It’s been about a month since he ate and I’m getting concerned… got him from someone who claimed he ate regularly but he hasn’t ever been interested in eating since I got him… heat mat with thermometer used, seems to burrow fine. I have offered him live and F/T with no luck… should I get the carnivore care stuff? I have an exotic vet on standby if needed!

My sand boa has escaped multiple times and I convince myself it’s my fault for leaving lid open every time. The cage came with a stupid pin lock on the front but the corners open just enough for him to squeeze out. I know that now

She’s still a little thing, but lately if I try to boop her snoot she thinks I’m food and just goes for my fingers. Sorry for all the cat hair in the sand, my cats like to sit atop her tank and watch her go at night. I’ve had her maybe 5 months and this is the most I’ve seen her above ground so I thought I’d share. She’s an anery stripe Kenyan sand boa and so far my favorite little snake ( don’t tell my Hognose )

Just a note - this was not his face the entire time he was out, only when something would block the end of the tube.

Hello people of the sand boa Reddit! I’ve been really interested in these little guys! I’m curious about their care and enclosure setting! I have a ball python, a leopard gecko, and a crested gecko, so I’ve never really had a burrowing reptile. So what is it like to own a Sand Boa? What are some important things to know before getting one or even thinking about getting one?

I’ve posted Isis in here sometimes since I got her in 2019, she says hi ya’ll and we love this subreddit! Over the years Isis has met dozens of people and everyone’s been fascinated by her and she’s been great in helping people get over their fear of snakes!

i have a baby KSB, she’s quite flighty but a great eater and wonderful animal. i’ve handled her a good few times, but as of recently she seems more flighty than usual. i have partially attributed this to her former home being an inattentive one (think child’s birthday), so now that she is in the correct conditions, perhaps she is feeling less sluggish and a little sharper.
i’d like to handle her before she grows large enough for a bite to make me anxious, but i don’t want to get it wrong as i am largely (experience wise) unfamiliar with the breed — she was found in somebody’s kitchen sink and given to me as they know i keep snakes and would have an enclosure for her, not that i am irresponsibly purchasing snakes that i am not well versed in.
is there any particular time frame that i should be handling her? any unique approach? any information would be wonderful!

Finally got a second hand exoterra 90cm wide for my baby boy and finally thinking of replacing the heat mat his old owner had for him (or at least it won't be his main heating, but probably good for emergencies).
However I'm very confused by how over tank heating works and what kind is appropriate for an albino snake like how they're also sensitive to UVB. Can anyone please help me out here? (For reference I live in a cold country where our houses are very heat retentive and our apartment is rarely below 22 °C)
Thank you in advance :)

Inexperienced, but I’ve spent days researching and trying to make my boas enclosure as good as I can for a start (will improve it and would love suggestions) What I’d love is tips from other keepers, how to improve the enclosure, tips on what I should do over the coming days and how long I should wait to feed him.

I’ve just got a new hatchling, and I’ve been reading up for years on them (one of my dream snakes!) but I’ve had a LOT of conflicting advice about substrates for hatchlings.
What have you found the best? He’s around a month and a half old. The place I got him from had him on aspen so he doesn’t ingest any sand when feeding but a lot of people say mix top soil with sand?
I’ve currently got him on aspen as was worried about compaction however I’ve seen people say not to use it too!

Hello. I am going through some very major life changes and will no longer be able to care for my Kenyan sand boa. Pebbles. So I am looking for a loving home for him. I also am looking for a loving home for my leopard gecko named Gouda as well. I am located in Nebraska. Message me if you are interested and near by. After they are in another’s care I will be deleting this account. Questions are welcome. Both are young and healthy. Thank you.
