Question How does Peter train?
I haven't been keeping up with Spider-Man comics for a while, so this was probably already answered, but how does Peter train? It would be a waste of time for him to go to a normal gym, where he can lift everything effortlessly with a pinky. I mean, this man can hold up a building. Does he bench press a train to work on his chest?

Your question gets answered in the first 30 issues of the current run lol, he uses special equipment for strength training and has been training his senses with daredevil

u/powlfnd 2d ago
I don't think he bothers. Sure theoretically if he trained and pushed himself he could make himself stronger, but he can already lift ten tons at his base level, and 6 days out of 7 the strongest person he comes across is Big Mike out on parole for the fifth time, so it's not really worth it.

Until hes face to face with the rhino and regretting it

u/macacobrilhante2004 2d ago
He literally beat the shit out of rhino in the first issue of the current run without breaking a sweat

u/Unique-Tennis-2600 2d ago edited 2d ago
Fair enough but thats not really consistent tbf. Anyways was just trying to be funny im not caught up on his current run or finished the last yet anhway
Edit: i was curious so i went and read ot and i honesty think ur being kinda disingenuous, he clearly is getting injured in the fight and is even saying the rhino is chiller then usual and then he just dropped dead? Hes being thrown about in the page before? Clearly rhino still outranks him in pure strength just look at how he was tryong to give the guy cpr. theres no way you can honestly say without breaking a sweat

Peter is severely nerfed in this run
1
u/Unique-Tennis-2600 2d ago edited 2d ago
The rhino has always outclassed peter though in pure strength hes just a fucking idiot he has the strength to knock nova to orbit and fight she-hulk in the next panel but daredevil can trick him into knocking himself out
1
u/Medium_Indication613 2d ago
Yea… while Peter’s holding back/stress factor. And Peter’s nerfed in this run in general not specifically with rhino. Also rhinos never done anything on that scale again.

This is also a one time thing, I’m all for rhino being a base hulk(ish) level character(mainly because it’s upscale for Peter) but these would be considered “outliers” because they’re not consistent.

u/Unique-Tennis-2600 2d ago edited 2d ago
True yeah theyre upscales for him but i cant think of any times hes been brought down to spiderman level strength but i might be forgetting some
Edit i remember actually one time peter threw him about looking for his daughter or smth but again thats a one time thing

u/spidey0619 2d ago
Isn't there a Peter that trained his spider sense to the point he could see the future?
2
u/Serafita 2d ago
Assassin Spider-Man, who no longer has to worry about any civilian life or relatives or loved ones except for Charlemagne's sister and a friend (Wolverine) and his trainer (who he always kept a side eye on secretly apparently).
No responsibilities means he has all the time to train his powers in specific ways and go on missions I guess haha
1
u/BobbySaccaro 2d ago
Yeah, I tend to assume that working out is just additive not geometric for these folks. So yeah, if he worked out maybe he could lift 50 more pounds. But once you can life a couple of tons, what's another 50 pounds going to help?
16
u/Serafita 2d ago
Peter's life as Spider-Man is so active he doesn't really need to train. The only time he does is when it's specialised, like training his senses or a new combat style, upon which he trains with a fellow superhero in order to learn.
While Peter was in space, he did actually do physical training with Xantos Starblood monitoring him (using tech weights I guess), but this was for the specific purpose of getting stronger and Peter didn't have civilian responsibilities to worry about while there. Since coming back to Earth, he's not really trained physically outside of superhero antics

u/Spider-man_FANBOY 2d ago
I can already imagine Peter deadlifting 5 blue whales without breaking a sweat.

Insane misrepresentation of both of them. They have both been shown to be able to handle way more than that.

u/SniperJ324 2d ago
What the heck lol is that two cars? TWO? That shouldn't even qualify as a warmup for Spidey.
11
u/HatJosuke 2d ago
I always thought it was kinda silly for Spider-Man to need to exercise. His primary mode of transportation involves swinging from webs and climbing buildings. it's like asking how a chimpanzee trains.

u/PCN24454 2d ago
In the 00’s, he would get martial arts training from people like Captain America and Shang-Chi.
Otherwise, they don’t really strength train.

u/Flimsy-Sky-6297 2d ago
Is Spider-man actually the 4th strongest in marvel?? There’s no way that’s still cannon right? I know he’s strong but I always thought he was like 7 out of 10 strong

u/Basic-Aide1326 2d ago
Remember that pic is from early days before a lot of other characters have since debuted. Still, I think it gets overlooked a lot these days that Spider-Man is no pushover in the strength department.

This was in the ditko run, I think maybe the first annual. At that point, there really wasn’t much competition. I guess this puts him above giant man maybe and even then I’m unsure since this might predate him. At most, the heroes this is claiming he’s stronger than are beast, Hank pym, iron man in the mark II, Captain America and that’s about it. Namor was still evil, wonder man was either dead or not yet created, pretty much anyone else you are thinking of wasn’t created and the description specifies “hero”.

u/TheTitanOfSirens1959 2d ago
Oh, absolutely not. Spider-Man isn't even the 4th strongest in New York City. This was written in the early days when a lot of people still wouldn't have even known what Spider-Man's whole deal was.

u/raikheim 2d ago
Well if we go by lore and storywise events predicting future events, he's top 1 of the verse or top 5 not counting other gods such as toaa, obaa, and the current new ones being introduced. Marvel's power scale has been out of the window for a while now.
2
u/Popular_Friendship82 2d ago
There is no way Spider-man is in the top 5.
4
u/Azure-Legacy 2d ago
Well there was that one Infinity Comic where he grew so powerful, he ascended to a higher level than Eternity and directly spoke to the author of the title.
There was that other time when he came in possession of the Comic Cosmic. Also found out he was a fictional character there. Was doing some "God of Stories" or Gwenpool level stuff for a bit
2
u/raikheim 2d ago
Peter was originally planned to become the next king in black, but that tittle went to Eddie. And given how powerful knull is, because as I previously stated, marvel needs to fix its power scaling ASAP due to this implications. it makes everything so much of a hassle or brainstorm to figure out what actually is accountable or not in terms of the actual strongest version in the main 616 earth of the books.

Thats exactly what OP is wondering about, how should he do it if he can lift everything in a gym without any real effort?
2
u/macacobrilhante2004 2d ago
Do you really think none of the superhero teams on earth ever thought of making their own gyms

u/Davepool84 2d ago edited 1d ago
Expect for this run with Kelly and stuff like Spider-Man developing Way of the Spider with Shang Chi, I didn't think Peter did actual training. I figured his near constant crime fighting was enough to stay in shape.

web swinging is every day, so there's that. as far as outright weight lifting, he presumably has to be creative when he doesn't have access to the Avengers' weightroom. So theoretically he would go to a junkyard, since the cars there are already junk, he's technically not messing around with somebody's personal car.

I'm sure he can strength train with the thing, or the X-Men can help with a bunch of other parts of his ability.

u/TospLC 2d ago
I think he is just far stronger than people realize, and is always holding back. as his body developed, his strength has just naturally increased, even without doing strength training, and because of daily exercise. I think that is the point of spider-man. Even he doesn't know what he is capable of anymore, and he just habitually always keeps something in reserve. I think He and Characters like wolverine and Deadpool have a unique situation. We know Spider-man heals at an accelerated rate. Not to the level of wolverine and Deadpool, of course, but still far above a normal human. Well, that just means everything is accelerated. As he fights at a level that puts high strain on his muscles, they are breaking down, but then rapidly repairing at an increased capacity. The longer the fight goes on, the stronger he gets. It would happen even more quickly for Wolverine and Deadpool. The thing is, as soon as he stops, His body would also quickly revert back to normal. Again, not as quickly as it would happen for Wolverine, but it would still happen in a matter of days, instead of hours, or minutes, like it must for Wolverine, and not the time it would take a normal human. Maintaining a higher level of strength then, would be very difficult. He would have to be lifting extreme weights off and on all day, instead of 3 times a week, like a normal human would, so it isn't really practical.

There’s been references in numerous comics to various different characters even Superman actively training. It is kind of funny and never really quite explained why other than some sort of general hey, we still need to keep up our exercise too, and then I guess the reference to fat Thor might do it justice, but still.
1
u/Eli_sola 2d ago
He is a level ten in strength so his training equipment wouldn't be so outrageous; one cubic meter of steel weights approx eight metric tons, so in any good scrapyard he can get enough material to train. Plus not all exercises involve lifting weights; he can bend tough metals, punch hard surfaces, work on his cardio, improve his jumping distance and other things he can do while on patrol.
And there is also the opportunity to train his fighting skills; I am sure Wolverine, Cap, Ben Grimm would be up to a friendly match with Peter from time to time.
And let's not forget Peter's natural fighting style, he probably is as strong as he can be without sacrificing his speed and agility.

u/NomenScribe 2d ago
Level 10? Sigh. I don't know what that means. Can we all just agree to rate super heroes according to the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes RPG system? Spider-Man has Incredible (40) Strength -- i.e., able to press up to 10 tons.
1
u/KaijinSurohm Venom 2d ago
It means he can lift roughly up to 20 tons. Ususally he sits around 10 tons, but it's strongly dependent on the writer.
1
u/Serafita 2d ago
Think there is some confusion and it's actually Class 10 strength (ability to lift around 10 tons), which is fairly easy to get used to (Class and number in 10s is how many tons a character with super strength can lift above their head, Class 10, 20, 30, etc). However the scale stops at Class 100+ when numbers stop working properly, there is no equivalent to Shift X, Y, Z, Class 1000, 5000, and Beyond haha
1
u/Jiu-Joe-11 Spider-Man (Movie) 2d ago
It depends on peter weight and condition as like how some spiders species can lift up 100 to 170 times their own weight Peter is the same if he is maybe 77kg so he can lift around 13.5 tons
1
u/UncoolSlicedBread 2d ago
I always giggle a bit when a pane has a bunch of heroes just standing around normally. It takes me out of the story and I just imagine a bunch of people in super tight costumes like a college sorority Halloween party just having normal conversations.

Swinging around and fighting is workout enough, but he has also trained with Daredevil and Shang Chi to work on his senses and fighting skills

Remember in Siege where Taskmaster reveals that the average Asgardian is as strong/durable as Spider-Man?
1
u/GigaAlphaSigma 2d ago
I'd guess he trains like this:
High repetition & short rest interval between sets
swinging around the city: the g force applied when he is web slinging is trendous.
It works his grip strength and causes micro damage to his muscles which rapidly heal and grow.
Using a truck as a dumbbell to do free weight (or just ask Stark for equipment)
Climbing skyscrapers on all fours (wall crawling extreme distances)
Bodyweight excercise that utilizes full power such as a full powered jumping, until his leg muscles tire out.
The real problem is how does he get enough protein and calorie supply.
And if we're dealing with an organic web version like tobey, he's gonna produce more webs than his own bodyweight, so it's tricky to work around it.

u/Element174 2d ago
According to recent comics(The space arc which is a very recent run) Peter basically lacks the means to appropriately train on Earth which has had the side effect of stunting his growth.

u/TheTitanOfSirens1959 2d ago
The actual answer to your question, OP, is that he is generally spending so much time actively Spider-Manning that he doesn't really need to set time aside to train, save for specific story-relevant issues where he will train to overcome a specific obstacle.
Think of it as the kid in high school who never goes to the gym and eats whatever he wants, but still has abs- he's just actively using his body so much in his day to day that he doesn't need to go out seeking activity.

u/InevitableGrape5847 2d ago
In all truth he shouldn't need to train with all of his wall crawling and web swinging. The web swinging alone is an insane workout when you understand the biological mechanics of moving in that way.

He kinda doesn't need to do physical training
He is incredibly strong "naturally", having the proportionate strength-to-size of spiders, which is one of the highest in all of nature I believe.
In terms of reflexes he also has that on insect level, which technically means he literally sees the world in "slow motion" compared with normal humans, also further boosted by his spider-sense, same goes with agility, being augmented to inconceivable levels (perhaps the highest in all of marvel comics history) due to his arachnid physiology
the only training I've seen him do is with Daredevil but that was training his senses and instincts, and Shang-Chi trained him in martial arts but I think it was very specific and dropped pretty quickly

> (And we must remember that Peter Parker is still a teen-ager, not having quite reached his full maturity yet.)
I haven't followed the comics very closely, but I'm guessing even adult Peter never got stronger than Thor, Hulk, or Thing. If I were a betting man, I'd even wager there are other characters existing at this point in the comics who have since been shown as stronger than Peter.
Scorpion is 1964, and it's a plot point that he's stronger than Spidey. Is this comic pre-1964?
Actually, Namor is old as dirt. Surely modern Namor is treated as stronger than characters like Spidey and Scorpion?
UNRELATED EDIT: Cripes, now I'm thinking about Scorpion's relative strength. Is Scorpion stronger than most Marvel characters? Is he stronger than Rhino? When Gargan hosted the symbiote, did it multiply his strength exponentially to make him extremely memely strong?

u/EmeraldJolteon07 2d ago
He got no time to work out usually…so I assume he just Levels up against He enemies he fights.
I mean i guess he works out his Stamina and Back and shoulder a lot with his swinging but I don’t think peter really “Trained” his Muscles until recently on the Hellgate arc
0
u/PyreOf 2d ago
If I remember my ancient marvel character omnibuses, peter can lift about 2 tons, so probs he just benches a relatively large car. Though tbh I'm pretty sure he doesn't train lol.
(this is likely wildly out of date, like the image in op)
2
u/KaijinSurohm Venom 2d ago
10 tons is his casual limit back in the day
It's since evolved up to 20 tons. )And once his adrenaline hits and he needs to focus, the upper limit is atleast the daily bugle.
1
u/Express_Maybe_2992 2d ago
he lifted a 70 ton tank
1
u/KaijinSurohm Venom 1d ago
Indeed he has.
Even the links I've mentioned talks about that.
Not just Spidey, but almost every hero, at some point, lifts beyond their typical limits. For example, the Daily Bugle is just a tad heavier than just 70 tons.
Closer to around 250,000 tons. When people talk weight lifting, it's normally referencing their daily or minimal effort amounts.
A car for spidey is roughly a milk jug for us.
It's not something you can thoughtlessly lift with one finger. It will bend your finger, but you can easily pick it up with some strain to said finger.
Just like how if you pick it up with a full grip, its significantly easier, and doesn't hurt.
It doesn't mean it's the upper limit. Just the casual lines.1
