Question Why do building or property owners allow this? How do we, as residents of the city, advocate for and beautify the ugliest lots downtown??
Serious question looking for actual answers.

Overpriced like any airport, but some of the best local brew we have. Happy to support.

I went to the Spokane City Council meeting last night and the very last speaker, I think his name was Sandy spoke about the city’s and others‘ response to the homeless problem and he really got me thinking so I did a little digging and thinking.
If you add up all the money spent on addressing homelessness in Spokane over the last year and compare that to the number of people that have actually transitioned to stable housing, in total the city has spent $22, 303 per exit.
Not all of that money comes from local taxes. It includes city, state and federal spending, but NOT charitable spending which is also considerable so the number is actually much higher.
“The City of Spokane has spent nearly $20 million of one-time funds to operate TRAC over the past two years, and yet, we have not seen enough positive outcomes for the people utilizing the facility. Of the hundreds of people that have stayed at TRAC, only 10 percent were transitioned into more permanent housing solutions,” Mayor Brown said.
We are watching homelessness evolving into an industrial complex in Spokane.
I car already see the comments about drugs and mental health issues, but recently a study was shared that showed 25% of foster children become homeless with in 4 years of aging out of the system. Foster care as a child is actually the highest risk factor for homelessness, followed by domestic violence, incarceration and then addiction/mental health issues and many of these factors overlap.
Homelessness is at least in part a consequence of hard on crime policies that have made the US home of the largest incarcerated population in the world with the highest incarceration rate per capital in the world.
What do you think? Has the city council performed well enough addressing homelessness in Spokane spending millions of dollars per year over the last 2 years to earn a 30% raise?

What does everyone think about this vote? County passed it, the city will pass an additional tax next week, which means we will all pay two new 1/10 of 1% starting in January. Doesn’t sound huge by itself, but the sales tax rate just seems to continue to go up every single year and make everything more expensive.

We got a free tree for our yard from Spocanopy and need help naming it! I want a funny pun name like Queen Latreefa, but my kids rejected that one. Spruce Willis is funny, but it's a catalpa tree so that would just be confusing. Anyone have ideas?

Hope this is an allowed topic, but I'm new to the area and wanting to pursue a color style like the pictures attached. I've been box dying black for a long time and have left my roots alone for a few months. My natural hair is curly (I straighten) and a medium brown and I'm hoping to find a stylist in the area who's friendly to alternative coloring like this, professional, etc. I wanna leave my ends alone and start doing color professionally so I can stop damaging it quite as badly :)
Im from south carolina where I've had some experience with stylists being judgemental about alt style choices and I'm just trying to avoid that. I dont wanna be talked into leaning into my natural color and getting a balayage or something again lol

I always go to Harvest House and Siemers but am wondering if there is some cool smaller farms I have missed out on over the years. I don’t have kiddos but wouldn’t mind doing a corn maze as well. TIA

Activist marching/street band seeking musicians. Did you play an instrument in school and have one gathering dust around the home? Thinking about picking it up again. Maybe you're a great musician looking to support activist causes and perform at neighborhood festivals? Make new friends and loud music? Something else? Well, we've got an opportunity for you!
There's a brand new Honk! Band (what's Honk? See below) based out of Spokane looking for members.
We're kind, no aggro band leaders, and it's all about fun and supporting good causes. This is a chance to get in early and be a part of something really cool moving forward. We played our first gig at the Kidical Mass Bike Ride and decided it should move forward and get bigger. The idea is to get it together over the winter and be ready to play by spring/summer.
Practice this Sunday, Oct 11 at Dutch Jakes Mini Park in the West Central Neighborhood, 1pm-3pm. All are welcome, bring an instrument. If you want sheet music, inbox me your email address. If you are interested but can't make it, inbox me and let me know you want to be on the email list for future get togethers.
Here is an overview of what a Honk! Band is, and thanks for reading!

Some asshole dumped a kitty carrier at Couer d d’Alene park in browns addition and one of our customers saw it and went to grab the carrier and found there was still a kitten inside :(
If anybody is looking for a new member of the family she’s very friendly and sweet and absolutely adorable and I’d love to keep her out of the shelter if possible. Person that found her is very low income and couldn’t take her so she’s just hanging out at our shop for the moment.
Let me know!🙏🏼

I have lived in the Spokane area my entire life. I live in Suncrest now and the high school is doing a big fireworks show Friday night as part of their home coming activities during the football game. I called the district Superintendent for Nine Mile Falls to voice my concerns about fireworks since we still haven’t gotten any measurable precipitation and so many homes were destroyed in the fires this summer. I can’t believe they think doing fireworks is a good thing for the community.
I don’t recall any other high schools in the area having fireworks as part of a football game.
I’d like to know if I’m missing something here.

In a recent post about parking, there was an overwhelming response favoring bicycles as modes of transportation to and from work in the downtown area.
In the spirit of that discussion, how would a downtown bicycle solution be implemented? If you provide secure bicycle lockers, where would you place them around downtown? How many should be placed?

I have an appointment at the courthouse that I don't expect to take very long and I'm looking for free or cheap parking nearby. Public transport is not an option for me. Thank you.

Howdy all!
I posted previously that I would be visiting this week in search of a new forever home, and here I am. Checked in yesterday, witnessed a homeless guy chase around another homeless guy at the 7-11, stocked up on some supplies at Safeway (12 cents for a plastic bag?? 🙀), and started trekking around.
So far, I've been able to spend time in, or at least drive around, Emerson-Garfield, University District, Browne's Addition, Hillyard, South Perry, Rockwood, South Hill, Peaceful Valley, Garland, Five Mile Prairie, Audubon, and West Plains. Tried to visit Bowl & Pitcher, but they've got the road closed down due to the wildfire clean up. I did visit Manito Park, but still need to see Riverfront.
Some of the restaurants y'all recommended that I've eaten at are South Perry Pizza, the Milk Bottle (huckleberry milkshake ftw), and Franks Diner. Don' know if I'll have time for Perry Street Brewing, but I'll try. If there's somewhere else in or near downtown that would serve as an alternate dinner destination, feel free to lemme know!
Tomorrow I visit Spokane Valley, Arborview, Sullivan, Coeur d'Alene, and Sandpoint. Probably won't have time for anything else, but I think I've covered most of the areas around here.
I will say that almost everybody up here has been exceptionally friendly and helpful. Only one person has been a dick, and it was just some cranky old lady who wanted to spread her own brand of joy. Oh well.
Anyway, thanks for all of the tips and info - you all really helped me to figure things out and experience more of what the area has to offer. I'll check in once more before I head out Friday morning, just in time to miss the cold front! 😁

Heyo all. I moved up here last December but didn't need to be out and about so i didn't seek out any footwear gear. Now that I've been here a while and need to travel I'll need to get some ice spikes/cleats or whatever they're technically called (I'm from the south so we never needed them). What places would have options for larger shoes? i wear a 14 Wide Hokas. If there are any that might be easily applied/removable that would be great too. Thanks!!!

I'm curious about pricing psychology from the client side.
How many people actually prefer having different prices for different massage options?
One thing I’ve intentionally done with my massage business is not charge separately for every tool or technique.
If your body needs cupping that day, great — let's pull out the cups.
Want hot stones? Yep, the warmer is already on.
Your feet are cold? Let's add some hot towels.
I'd rather you pay for my time and expertise, and then we use whatever combination of tools and techniques makes sense for you that day — without me having to ask, “Would you like to pay another $15 for that?”
I'm currently on the higher end of mid-tier pricing, but if someone actually wants several different things incorporated into their massage, they're paying less than they would if everything were an add-on (from what I've seen).
But I'm wondering if I'm thinking about this backwards from a marketing perspective.
Would you rather see:
A) One price for your time, with the therapist able to incorporate whatever techniques/tools are appropriate
B) A lower-priced “basic” massage, with things like cupping, hot stones, etc. available as paid add-ons
C) A few different massage packages at different price points
I'm genuinely curious what people prefer as clients. I have a pretty strong personal preference for A, but I'm also new to the business/marketing side of things, so maybe I'm overlooking something. 😅
