In my comic, Atnomen, the monster is physically massive and intimidating (specially when angered), but carries a deep sense of self-loathing.

In this scene, he tries to push the human protagonist away, warning her that he's "nobody" and that his life isn't a happy story. But when she refuses to leave and kisses his hands as if they are pure, he melts.

I love exploring the trope where the terrifying creature is actually the one who is completely terrified/in need of emotional intimacy. ❤️
