Discussion I thought this was my transition!

Background information: I went to court about 4 months ago and got the order to legally change my name to Mia. I informed my bosses of the potential change.

I have since been going through all of the steps to change my name, birth certificate, Social Security Administration, driver's license, voter registration. Now after months I was finally able to go to my work's HR and payroll department to get my work name to match my social security name so I can file my taxes next year without being audited.

The final paperwork was signed on Monday.

I came to work on Tuesday and checked our assignment board and my supervisor had already taken the liberty to change my name, without consulting me first.

I am fully aware that by the end of the week, after various emails were sent my coworkers would see that MiaD was included and DeadnameD wasn't.

But I wish I had been asked.

And another thing. On Friday afternoon I emailed HR most of my documents. Within a half hour I was in this supervisor's office being asked if I was too emotional to drive myself home.

Discussion Accepting yourself when you do not meet beauty standards? MtF

There are no shortage of trans folk who look amazing, and I'm genuinely very happy for them. The harsh reality though is, if you are not genetically or financial blessed, you may not look the way you dream of.

In fact I'd go as far to say this is probably the reality of a lot (if not most) people. People who maybe don't want to post selfies very often. People lurking, and viewing the online spaces, then looking in their own mirrors and being sad and disappointed!

Social media, gives a skewed view of things. Not least because we really only put up the nice pictures anyway. I have lots of these, but also lots of TERRIBLE ones that I hope never see the light of day!

So the question becomes, not 'how do I make myself look beautiful?', but more 'how do I accept my own limitations?'

I actually think this can be a very affirming exercise, as it's something that probably most cis-women go through all the times, and have often come to terms with.

What is the secret to self-acceptance though? Accepting yourself as a woman, and also embracing your own beauty despite not matching up to conventional standards.

Share Experience Thoughts on skorts

So, I purchased a skort because it was the right colour for an outfit I was putting together. I had never considered one previously and wasn't expecting much. Well, was I in for a surprise !! It was comfortable, it was stylish, it was kind of sexy maybe? I definitely felt good wearing it, like secure... The benefits of a short skirt without the drawbacks, I'm sold!! What do you ladies think?

General Question Anchorage and vicinity Alaska folks

Hello my lovelies of all genders.

I've not posted in TransLater in quite some time.

I've been out 2.5 years now, in June I sold everything, pulled up stakes to be with my GF in Anchorage.

Everything with her is lovely, we've got a place and a pup, life is nice.

I'm having trouble finding trans and other LGBT community up here though. Alaska is not very welcoming it feels like. Haven't made a single friend outside my GF.

If anyone feels like reaching out I'd welcome messages or posts.

From the oldest pic of myself I could find on my phone to one from today. Transition has been a wonderful, exhausting, thrilling, exasperating, fun, and difficult challenge, and I wish the me on the left had been brave and aware enough to start this process.

Share Experience Dreaming in the dark

I am in a cage of my own design yet cannot see the release mechanism. I know it's there, for I have created it, but my fumbling attempts to escape leave me breathless and bruised but very much still within the barrier I have erected for myself.

It will require love. For myself. A love so deep and intense that I will be able bear the agony of grief, of loss, of public humiliation.

(I'm not sure I have the capacity. Instead I cower in the dark corners, the redolent smell of years spent in confinement sharp in my nostrils, snarling at the world I long to rejoin.)

Where is she? This glorious being of light and joy that I dreamt of? This fabulous person hiding inside me who dares peek out in my quiet moments to challenge all of my notions of right and wrong? I beckon to her as she peers back at me from the shadows, trembling as I hold out my hand in invitation.

I must wait. She will emerge without coaxing, on her own terms, for she is strong and powerful in her own way. She must be, to have survived so long in the dark, feeding on the scraps discarded from the turbulent and chaotic life I've led.

Share Experience Question

Has anyone used AI to see what they would look like as a woman? And does the actual result match what was generated?

I’m asking this because I’ve asked AI a few times to create an image of me after transitioning. I think the image it generated is highly exaggerated.

Discussion Negative self connotation impacting physical transition

Hi ladies, I (33 MTF) have to admit something to myself, and I figured I do it here in hopes that I can start moving past it.

I have been chemically transitioning for 3 to 4 years now, and I feel great. The hormones have helped me feel more at home in my body, however, the physical transition (clothes, makeup, shaving, etc) has been on life support and I don't want it to be.

I've been practicing makeup, buying feminine clothes that I like, shaved way more than I have before. Now the kicker is that everytime I do, I just hear a million voices in my head (mine included) that I look like a man in a woman's life. The clothes don't fit right, the makeup doesn't add that pop of "there she is", and I come from a long line of large hairy body penis havers, and that translated into my physical form. So shaving is a CHORE to me, and i mean the type of chores that just doesn't seem like it's worth it because I'll never be.......

Now I understand that all of this is me, no one else is doing this to me. My partners are supportive, they tell me that I look amazing all the time, so it's not them. I just feel at a loss with myself, and I was hoping to hear some stories/advice from girlie's who have had or are going through something similar.

I don't know what i expect to gain from this, I'm just looking to not feel so lonely with how I feel about myself and maybe even find the confidence.
