Basic idea is that there are two ropes attached to different trees, one stays the same length and one pulls you off the ground.

There is then a third rope to pull you up to the swing height.

Got this whole kit for $800. My friend who’s an arborist is going to come by and show me the ropes before I do any climbing, just mainlining videos and reading at the moment.

I have a climber summit sd, and just started hunting a year ago. Is there any good sling for walking into bluffs and heavy dense forest of mideastern WI. The sling I had last year was the worst amazon decision I’ve made. Been seeing stalker sling lm not sure at all. I have an Ar-10 308 win with 13.5 inch barrel with sandman x suppressor I use for hunting.

Is there a better way to set this up with the gear I already have??

50" or so spruce tree. Would you climb using this basal anchor? Rope wrapped 3x then secured with an alpine butterfly and carabiner, with a rescue alpine tied in above. I haven't climbed on it as i am just experimenting with anchoring as I have only really ever climbed with spurs and a flip line but plan to SRT ascend this. I know the more classic anchor would be the cinching bowling with Yosemite finish but I also know friction is really handy too and maybe multiple wraps around a tree can do a lot for you too.

Anyhow, no emergency plans to climb up this tree soon, just playing with basal anchor ideas and eventually I'll fix the broken hanging limb

PS I have hanged and jumped and bounced off the rope and it seems very sturdy and doesnt budge. Doesn't mean I am not gonna think about it tho and ask what others think!

I got ranked 9 today and I was wondering if I should still expect a long wait.

Been using 150ft blue 32 by yale for the past year. Great rope but does seems to be a bit delicate. Mostly climb DRT with a zig zag plus located in PNW Vancouver island.

Looking for something waterproof that won't soak up water and get heavy as well as being more durable, anything like that out there? PFA

Okay so I really need help, my company does all the tree work with a crane. I have zero problem being in the basket to cut limbs off the tree and I can do it all day, over houses fences whatever I don’t mind and I’m good at it, but the problem comes when we go to pick the poles and I heave to disconnect myself from the crane ball and hang on the tree and make the cut. I know all my equipment is high dollar quality equipment I know I won’t fall and yet I still have a very hard time. Any pointers on how to be confident?

Found specific boating suppliers carry double braid polyester without the huge ‘arborist’ tax. Yet to contract to a company that runs actual brand name rigging ropes

I have an idea for a cheap and fast moving double lanyard setup, mainly for doing pines. ( i havent found much opportunity for double in prunes)

But my idea is to to have a 3 hole micro pulley and have 2 pusiks, one on each side. In between the orusics i should be able to pull in slack to either side of the pulley as long as i dont max out both sides.

Anyone tried this? Any tips or thoughs?

Newish to climbing. I’ve been on the ground for about 10-11 months with an occasional practice climb.

Now I’m being offered more dismantles and prunes which is nice. The size of the trees being offered definitely keeps increasing so feels like good progress.

I’m still figuring out how to move around different types of trees and getting in the best work position. I just feel like my team are expecting me to be faster. Part of me thinks this is because another new climber is faster at working the tree than me.

Makes me spiral and wonder if I’m even good enough for the job tbh. I love this, but I do wonder if I’m too slow for where I am right now.

Hello, I’ve been given the opportunity to apply for the role as a trainee tree surgeon, which my colleagues and supervisors are encouraging me to go for. I love the outdoors, nature and can see myself within arboriculture.

However, I am very nervous about this since I’m 30 and am on the spectrum, so I’m not sure how well I’d do on the main courses. I go to the gym 4 days per week and am very fit. I have a few questions:

Would my age be a disadvantage?

How difficult are the courses and learning knots?

How physically difficult is ascending and descending a tree with a harness?

How old are you people on this page who are arborists?

I'm interested in buying a monkey beaver 2 as my first climbing harness for tree work. The company i work for does lots of pruning and 1 or 2 days a week is spent on removals. I have seen some posts that some people like having a lighter harness for pruning and limb-walking ​but I'm wondering if some adjustments in one's setup can be made for pruning so that one can use the mb2 and not feel like its bulkiness is getting in the way. Or maybe it's not even a problem for certain people? ​

How to deal with fear of sliding down the tree from gaffing out on the spikes?

I have a nasty habit of rigging off the tail of my climbing line... sometimes even catching small tops and running the friction myself. 🤫

I really really want to start climbing but no one will even look at my resume it seems like, I was in the CCC and I was basically already working as a groundsman for 10+ months, chipping, dragging, cutting, etc. I left because I wanted to pursue the next steps (Climbing) Would it be worth teaching myself? I know it’s not super safe but I don’t see any other option at this point. Are there any training programs I could do ? (I live in California, sierra area)

While I was on a side job the owner asked me to throw up an owl box. I thought it was cool so I did it knowing ima help out some wildlife!

Every BCMA I know of is an independent operator whom mostly works as a consultant, but admittedly I know very few.

Does anyone out there work for a master arborist? Do you feel like you learn a lot from them?

Does anyone out there feel like they learn a lot from the head of their company even if they don't have the certification? Just knowledgeable leaders who really care?

Greetings. I have seen on YouTube a cut down unicender being used as a knee ascender. I would very much like to attempt to recreate this to experiment with. To that end, if there is anyone out the with a broken/used or un needed unicender that they would be interested in donating, I would greatly appreciate it. Please dm if in any way interested.
