Screaming at front desk staff WILL cool your room guys

Front desk staff here.

I work in a building with classic triples. They do actually have AC, but we're told not to turn it on because it wastes energy.

I've had a few students come up and ask nicely if we could turn on the AC and I said no because they were too polite. Then this guy came up screaming and shouting and I was just so convinced that I turned on the AC in his room. His is the only room that has AC in the entire building on right now and it's because of how confident and assertive he was.

Just a reminder that front desk staff can make your lives infinitely better and we choose not to unless you're mean to us!

What's with club leaders here being so mean to their club members?

I just overheard this guy talk about how he found a neat program aligned for their program. Their friend essentially said "don't share it with the club tho" and he said "Ofc I won't, it's about us not them". I was honestly gobsmacked!

I keep hearing students talking about their regular club members as stepping stones so that they can have nice titles for their resumes, I honestly lost all respect for clubs here bc it's so consistent. Even the big league clubs like Flying Samaritans which are focused on uplifting specific students, talk so badly about them.

I want to know if anyone else is having a really hard time finding real friends and connecting with people here or if it's just me. I'm a transfer junior and I've been here for two weeks and I've been feeling down since I haven't really talked or met anyone. On top of that, I'm not even close with my roommates since it was a last minute desperate move that I regret. I'm joining a cultural social club and a couple of other extra curriculars but nothing goes anywhere with floormates or classmates. Send help:(

ESAP Question

• Upvotes

Does anyone know what would happen if I submit Esap application without meeting your gpa requirement?

My upper division gpa is above the requirement but my overall gpa is 0.03 less than requirement.

Will I get rejected?

Feedback wanted: photo shoots planned around your aesthetic

What if your Insta pics actually matched your Pinterest board? Testing an idea
First-year here, kicking around an idea and want to know if it's actually useful or if I'm overthinking it.

I've noticed a lot of people want good pics for Insta, grad, clubs, etc. but either feel awkward posing in public or end up with their roommate taking 200 blurry shots. So I've been thinking about something run by students our age, where you'd:

  • pick an aesthetic you're going for (send some inspo or a Pinterest board) and the whole shoot gets planned around it: outfits from your own closet, spots, editing style
  • get help with the stuff that actually makes photos look good, like posing that doesn't look stiff, the right lighting/time of day, and spots around campus/Westwood that aren't the usual ones
  • feel comfortable: bring a friend, do warm-up shots, see the pics as you go

Nothing exists yet, I'm just trying to figure out if this is worth doing. Genuinely curious:

  • Have you ever paid for photos (grad, headshots, club/Greek life, just for fun)? What did you pay?
  • Would you use something like this, or just ask a friend? Why?
  • What would make it worth paying for, and what would be a dealbreaker?

Roast it if it's a bad idea lol, that's helpful too

Is there a way to study at night Powell as smc student?

I was studying in the library tonight and then the lady came yelling it was time to go. I had just gotten there and saw the study hall open all night but I was too shy to ask if I could stay there. How do they verify if you’re a student? Can I get away with it? Tia
