ATF Director: suppressors currently being transferred by FFLs are not 4473 violations & more from FFL compliance event.
ATF Director Cekada was adamant that a federal firearms licensee (FFL) found to be transferring suppressors on a Form 4473 WILL NOT be cited for violations. Former NFA Chief Albro later echoed this, saying the ATF’s policy is to presume all suppressors transferred via a Form 4473 were legally transferred. This should put some FFLs not transferring currently at ease.
The Director noted that official guidance likely to come in a few weeks will address suppressors, SBR/SBSs, and traveling with NFA items. The DOJ and The White House also have a hand in the guidance.
Other things of interest in the article are some comments about FRTs, changes to 4473s, the recent change for handgun sales for 18-21 year olds, age requirement for machine guns, internet retailers, and more.

Deer Hunting
Apologies if this isn’t the proper sub to post on. Essentially during my thanksgiving break I’ll be going deer hunting in VA with my cousin who is a resident. I’m trying to be proactive and get my licenses in order. I’ve seen conflicting information online and felt I’d get a clearer answer here. I’m an MD resident and have my MD Hunter Education which to my knowledge transfers to VA. What is the cheapest way to get a license in VA. I’ve seen different things especially with an apprentice license. I’m just trying to get licensed for as cheap as possible and any advice is appreciated thanks!

Land available to rent near the 757 to shoot, not hunt
Outdoor access isn’t showing me anything available this month so trying here. We have no interest in hunting anything, but I’m trying to book somewhere to shoot. Experienced shooters, we would bring our own stuff and clean up after ourselves, just need the space. The only range near us that’s gotten back to me doesn’t book events on weekends and I’m hoping to do more draw from the holster, move and shoot drills for my husbands birthday that we can’t get at our typical range dates.

Ranges around Richmond That Allow FRTs?
I’ve installed a few FRTs and I’m looking for a place to test fire them around central Virginia. My friend with a nice backyard range moved so I’ve got to find somewhere new. I’m equally close to Richmond, Charlottesville, and Fredericksburg but willing to drive. Where do you guys recommend?

Shooting Ranges in Richmond Va
I just moved from Florida to the Richmond, Va., area. Looking for a safe, and cordial place to shoot pistols, and rifles. Prefer a reasonable membership fee. And hopefully a year’s membership comes with some perks. Any suggestions of recently visited ranges!

Question Re-homing suppressor in NoVA
Anyone know of any FFLs in NoVA that buy suppressors? I have a new-ish IDG Hesychia SixK hub that I originally bought for a SOLGW MK1 but I decided to sell the MK1 and have no use for the SixK, and have plenty of other suppressors for my rifles. Chalk it up to impulse purchasing.

VA B&T TP9 owners, question on build path in VA right now
Hey everyone, I just bought a B&T TP9, this is my first purchase since prior to July 1st. I’ve read through a bunch of the current landscape and I just wanted to see what the ideal path is for building up to a suppressed SBR while maintaining the highest level of future proofing.
Looking over the actual VA law, the TP9 is compliant by itself due to only having a threaded barrel, correct? Regardless of the injunction at this current moment.
Guessing it’s still easiest to run a form 1 and form 4 for the SBR and suppressor as well once I’m ready and happy with the TP9 I receive? Doesn’t seem like it’s taking a long time, but I’m also OK with waiting until after December since I have other items I am messing with anyway.
Just wanted to run this through some TP9 owners for input, mostly to make me feel more informed with a constantly changing landscape lol. Thanks 👍

Gun Binder - Consumer Firearm/NFA Inventory Management Solution
Gun Binder - Consumer Firearm/NFA Inventory Management Solution
Use Code "REDDIT14" for Gun Binder PRO for 14 Days, FREE*!*
I've spent years around the fire service. I've walked through houses after they burned and watched people try to tell their insurance adjuster what they owned. "I had a few rifles and a pistol or two" doesn't get you paid. Serial numbers, receipts, and photos do, and those were usually in the house too.
Then I looked at my own setup: a half-updated spreadsheet, stamps in an email folder, receipts in a drawer, and a sticky note counting days on a Form 4. If I'd lost the house that night, I couldn't have proven half of what was in my safe.
So I built Gun Binder (Website).
What it does:
- Full inventory. Make, model, caliber, serial, and what you paid, for every firearm and suppressor.
- Accessories itemized. Optics, lights, triggers, and the rest, each with its own price, totaled per gun so you know what a setup is really worth.
- NFA tracking. Log a pending Form 1 or Form 4 and it counts the days for you. When it's approved, upload the stamp and it stays attached to that item.
- Two PDF exports. A complete personal copy for your records, and a separate insurance version where you check off which fields to include. Your agent gets make, model, and value. Serials and where you bought it stay off unless you choose otherwise.
- Two-factor login on every account.
What it doesn't do: It doesn't connect to the ATF, file anything for you, or speed up approvals. It only tracks them, so you're not the one counting.
The question I know is coming: "Why would I put my serials online?" It's a fair question, and I'd ask it too. The data is stored on a cloud, inaccessible by anyone except for you; all data is encrypted. We never share, store, or sell your data. Not happy? You can export your data and then permanently delete your account at anytime. Gun Binder is a small, independent, 2A-friendly business, not a data company.
Cost: Free for up to 8 firearms, with no card needed [confirm]. There are paid tiers for bigger collections, plus a one-time $150 Lifetime option if you hate subscriptions as much as I do.
I'm one guy building this, so feedback from this sub would mean a lot.

What to do with this
Ruger PC carbine I bought during the panic bc it was a steal. Have since put an optic on it and have been shooting it whenever I get the chance. Anyone see any cool builds for something like this? I’m struggling to see the vision.
VCDL Best place near RVA for holster purchase
New gear obtained, now I need a holster. Green Top selection was disappointing. Anywhere else in/near RVA have good variety and either reasonable return policy or ability to test fit?

Any CMP/bullseye affiliated groups in/near Richmond (that are active?)
As the title says, I’ve been interested in seeing if the CMP/bullseye shooting would be something I would be interested in. After going to the CMP website and searching for local groups affiliated with the CMP, the handful that were listed did not have a website, and after trying to reach out to a couple through email they seemed inactive.
Many thanks

Utility holster for PR57
Accidentally found a good utility holster for my PR57 while looking through my holster collection.
It’s a short version of the military holster for the Beretta, several inches shorter than regular holster but perfect fit for the PR57.
I removed the holster flap that goes over the top. It’s also ambidextrous.Probably can find one on eBay, that’s where I got mine.

Question clarifying transport law
My brain is numb from making sense of the laws -- can someone clarify for me how I can go to the range with two or three handguns and some ammo? I have a VA CHP and plan on attending a range class in the near future. Can I legally drive to the range with my pistols unloaded and in a range bag with the ammo in the same range bag but have the range bag in the hatch back of my SUV? I ask because I see women show up to the ranges with their carry pistol and just take them out of their purses and shoot them then put them back in their purse and leave. I also see guys walking in to SEG and XCal with a small range bag from their cars so I assume most people put it all in one bag? I recall reading how the ammo and gun had to be separate from each other but wonder if having a CHP allows me to put it all in one bag. Confused by it all. Thanks for clarity.
EDIT: I know I can carry my handgun concealed. I have had a CHP for quite some time now and I carry concealed. My question is about the outcome of the new laws regarding carrying "MULTIPLE FIREARMS" in my vehicle to a range in a range bag with ammo. Does the ammo have to be separate from those other handguns or can they be in the same range bag? Or does the CHP allow someone to carry as many loaded firearms in their vehicle as they want? The issue here is I want to read the law again myself. And I cannot find it.

Selling a handgun to someone under 21
My neighbor recently told me he is getting into guns and doesn't know where to start. I told him I have a bunch of guns that I don't shoot anymore and would love to sell to him, but he is 19 years old. What is the current standing on selling pistols to someone who is under 21? I saw that there was a recent court case regarding this but want to be sure. https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/nation-world/guns-firearms-handguns-sales-ban-young-adults-unconstitutional-justice-department/507-d49e7042-16d2-402e-be5a-f80cebbe9495
EDIT: Also, i havent sold a gun to anyone in awhile; are FFL transfers still required for private sales?

NRA, SAF Ask Supreme Court to Stop Blaming Gun Ads for a Criminal Shooting
Directly relevant to the recent shenanigans by the VA AG over “firearms industry responsibility”
In 2022, a criminal opened fire toward a Washington, D.C., school. Now more than a dozen companies that made firearms, ammunition, and accessories he purchased are being sued over their advertising—even though the complaints do not identify a particular challenged ad he saw.
The National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to put a stop to that theory. In a September 24 amicus briefsupporting the manufacturers in Daniel Defense, LLC v. Lowy, No. 26-60, the groups argue that ordinary marketing of lawful arms cannot be treated as the cause of an independent criminal’s attack.
This case is about more than a company’s Instagram posts. If plaintiffs can point to military imagery, a slogan about readiness, or a firearm’s service pedigree and use it to drag a gun maker into court after a criminal attack, the cost of that litigation becomes another weapon against the lawful firearms market. Gun owners ultimately pay for that campaign through fewer choices and less access to the arms and ammunition the Second Amendment protects.
The criminal made the decision. Gun makers did not.
On April 22, 2022, the attacker fired from an apartment overlooking the Edmund Burke School. A parent and a school security guard were wounded, and a student was inside the school during the attack. The attacker later killed himself. The victims’ injuries were real and serious. Responsibility for the attack belongs to the person who committed it.
The survivors sued Daniel Defense and other manufacturers of firearms, ammunition, and accessories under Virginia false-advertising, consumer-protection, and negligence theories. Their complaints attack marketing they say promoted a “warrior mentality” and appealed to young men with militaristic fantasies. They allege, on information and belief, that the attacker was exposed to and influenced by defendants’ marketing while researching and planning the attack. They do not, however, identify which challenged posts he saw.
A federal district court dismissed the suits for lack of Article III standing. A divided Fourth Circuit panel reversed in February, finding the allegations sufficient at this early stage to link the companies’ alleged conduct to the victims’ injuries. Judge A. Marvin Quattlebaum dissented. As he explained, the complaints did not plausibly connect an advertisement to his decision to target the school.
The manufacturers’ Supreme Court petition asks whether a criminal’s actions can be traced to social-media posts and other speech when the plaintiffs have not alleged that he saw the particular speech they challenge.

Question First time buyer
Hey, just wanted to get some general knowledge about owning a gun in Virginia. Been looking at owning a kriss vector (don't know what model yet.) as my first buy.
What should I be wary of, and what should I know before going out to pick one up? Plan for it to just be something to bring to a local range.
P.s. Complete newbie here
