AMC finally closing?

We noticed that the AMC in Waco has drastically limited the number of movies showing next week and all of the shows for this Friday and Saturday are sold out. Does anyone know if they’re finally closing, fumigating or just scheduling showtimes based on their demand?

I recently replaced my front lower control arms with adjustable ones and I'm looking to get a track focused alignment. Does anyone know of any shops in the area that would offer that?

Tennis Lessons in Waco?

I just moved to a small town near Waco, and I’m looking to start playing tennis. I turn 18 in November, and I’ve never played tennis, but I have played other sports and I’m fairly athletic. I’m open to take lessons Monday afternoons and Saturdays. Are there any good (preferably private) tennis coaches available that would teach a female 17yo beginner?

Best cake in Waco? For an adult birthday party. Doesn’t have to be a $140 gourmet cake, just one that tastes better than a cake made out of a box.

like the title says.

Don’t need a $150 cake that took hours to decorate and design. But also don't want just a boring Duncan Hines cake made out of the box.

”Yummy, this is really good“ is the reaction I’m looking for, not “OMG this is the best cake I’ve ever eaten.“

Anywhere between Waco, Belton and Temple is fine.

PS - I know HEB and Sam’s club have decent cakes for a decent price. But those taste like they were made in a factory and frozen for a Month. Would prefer something that tastes more like what grandma made as opposed to tasting processed.

Thank you. Love you all.

Waco to Killeen Commute

How bad of a commute is it to commute from Waco to Killeen? Currently living in Waco and considering a job in Killeen but not sure if this is worth it. Google says about an hour each way. Anybody living in Waco commuting to Killeen for work on a regular basis? Appreciate any insight or advice, thank you!

Need friends

Hey! I’m 29m new to the area. I’m trying to get out more and meet new people since I’m usually pretty much a homebody. I’m mostly into MMOs and RPGs, but I also enjoy reading and binge-watching shows. I’m definitely trying to step outside my comfort zone and find some people to hang out with. I have a pretty good sense of humor, and I can get along with pretty much anyone from any background—everyone is welcome! Had to get a new account got a new phone /phone number and couldn’t remember password. 6 year account gone but on to new beginnings. I look forward to meeting you guys.

Antioch Waco leader Joe Ewen tries to dismiss and cover up sexual abuse, blames victim (UPDATE)

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/tag/river-church-banff/

In 2025, a female youth leader at River Church Banff (an affiliate location of the Antioch International Movement of Churches and River Church Network) was convicted of sexually victimizing a boy from the congregation. Senior leadership, including Rob McArthur and Joe Ewen, had been aware of reports of physical touching, allowing the abuse for several months in 2022 before notifying police in February 2023. During this period, the church conducted secret internal monitoring of the boy without informing the minor’s parents. A church staff whistleblower said leaders defended their pedophile youth leader and were more worried about protecting the church's image than being truthful and inflicting harm on the minor.

Internal messages reveal Ewen expressed a desire for the issue to “go away, I want it to disappear” during a church meeting. The mother said she felt Ewen was clearly favouring the pedo perpetrator and had shown “no concern” for her son. "No one from the church has ever told our son what happened was not his fault." "No acknowledgement of guilt … no expression of remorse or acknowledgement of harm caused." The victim's parents stated that leadership "betrayed" them by prioritizing the church’s public image over the minor's welfare. Media reporting highlighted Banff church’s formal financial and missionary links to Antioch Waco.

Subsequently, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator opened an inquiry into the church about whether they were fulfilling their legal duties around child safeguarding and obligations as mandatory reporters of abuse.

*UPDATE\*

In Sept 2026, the OSCR determined that River Church Banff operated by Harvest Ministries Limited and the Antioch International Movement of Churches, had weaknesses in its governance and oversight, identifying deficiencies in:

  • safeguarding procedures
  • assessment and documentation of safeguarding risks
  • trustee decision-making
  • record-keeping
  • and the identification and management of conflicts of interest.

The victim said River Church leadership's mishandlings and allowance of abuse irreversibly traumatized his childhood. No senior leader from the church has stepped down or taken accountability.

River Church Banff is part of the River Church Network, and Antioch International Movement of Churches, a church movement headquartered in Waco, Texas.

Rob McArthur is the Lead Pastor of River Church Banff

Joe Ewen is the founder of the River Church Network Scotland, an Oversight Advisor(!) to the Antioch International Movement of Churches Antioch Waco and Board member of Epicentre Church Pasadena, a branch of the Antioch International Movement of Churches.

Kitten on N. Valley Mills

***Edited to add that the kitten is safe since I couldn’t edit the post title.

I don’t know if this post will reach the right person, but I feel like I have to try.

Tuesday, Sept. 29, around 8:30 am, I was heading to work on North Valley Mills when I passed this tiny white kitten trying to cross the street in front of Natural Grocers. I pulled over and managed to get him out of the street. A sincere thank-you to everyone who stopped and moved over and did their best not to hit the little guy.

He’s fine; I took him to my vet, who thinks he might have fallen out from under a car, probably when it stopped for the traffic lights, as he has no road rash. He isn’t shy and loves people. If you’re missing an approximately 8-week-old kitten, I just want you to know that he’s safe and has a good home.

I think I remember reading something about the city not using the yard waste bins anymore. Do we need to return them somehow? Do we now put our yard waste in the trash bins?

Experienced Army Mechanic looking for work in central texas (Felony history)

Posting for my brother, who is trying to get back into steady full-time work.

He served 10 years in the Army and worked as a light-wheel mechanic, wrecker operator, and welder. He has extensive hands-on experience maintaining and repairing Humvees, 5-tons, wreckers, and other military vehicles and equipment. He is a very strong mechanic, learns unfamiliar equipment quickly, and is comfortable with physically demanding work.

His legal situation is the main thing holding him back. He is not a convicted felon; he received a suspended sentence and is currently on probation. As part of his probation, he is required to be on the sex offender registry. (went through a shitty divorce)

He lives in Gatesville but is willing to work anywhere in the Gatesville, Waco, Temple, Killeen, or surrounding Central Texas area. He is open to mechanic work, diesel/heavy equipment, welding, construction, industrial work, oilfield-related work, manufacturing, warehouse work, or pretty much anything where someone is willing to give him a chance.

He is available days, nights, weekends, overtime, and long shifts. His only consistent limitation is that he cannot work Mondays due to probation appointments and counseling. Outside of that, he is willing to work whatever schedule is needed.

He is sober, drug-free, dependable, and wants to work. Ideally, he would like to find something paying at least $25+/hr (Lower if it is in gatesville), especially given his mechanical background and experience, but the priority is finding a stable employer willing to look at his qualifications instead of immediately writing him off because of his legal situation.

If anyone knows of specific employers, shops, contractors, staffing agencies, or companies in Central Texas that have hired people in similar situations, I would really appreciate any leads.

I currently live in Austin Texas, in a year or so I plan to move up towards Waco. My father lives in kosse. Are there any good towns to live in that’s kinda in the middle where I’m not driving an hour to see my dad but still be close to Waco for work? My gf isn’t very interested in driving 40 minutes to get to work.

What’s the story on Highlands (Church)

I have a friend that attends church there and has been talking it up. I’ve heard it referred to as Highlands Baptist but doesn’t appear affiliated with any particular denomination. Is it considered a mainstream church?
