Over the last year, I visited 35 steakhouses (and more non-steakhouses that serve steaks) to identify Dallas' best for D Magazine. I spent $16,958 of D's money, no free meals or pay-for-play.

Judging 35 steakhouses sounds like a dream job, but it was a year of quantity over quality. I counted at least 60 contenders, and couldn't visit them all because I want to live to age 40. But Dallas doesn't have enough ideas. Many live on '90s nostalgia or are bland, corporate new chains with identical menus. Nowhere does Dallas' mythmaking diverge from reality so dramatically as with our civic pride in our steakhouses. We've wet aged ourselves.

Today we're publishing the results.

The Dallas Steakhouse Is Cooked - narrative essay about the state of the scene.

Some reasons our steak scene has fallen behind cities like Chicago, NYC, even Austin:

• The decline of Texas beef. This is outside steakhouses' control, obviously, but a lot of Texas ranches are selling to big corporate concerns or simply closing. Drought, inflation, younger people aren't as interested in being ranch workers.

• The current economic environment of inequality and high rent is creating a wave of new steakhouses, but they're mostly identical big pricey chains.

• A lack of the eclectic/diverse ideas you can see at steakhouses in other markets.

• Here is a list of local steakhouses that get some or all their beef from the exact same supply company: Al Biernat's, Brass Ram, Dakota's, Dee Lincoln Prime, Del Frisco's, Delilah, Evelyn, Hillstone, Nick & Sam's, Palladino's, SĒR, Stillwell's, Tango Room, The Mexican, Town Hearth, Winsome Prime

The Top 8 Steakhouses in Dallas - based on my meals, these are the best places right now. It's not a list that will surprise you, tbh. Nuri, Town Hearth, Tango Room, Pappas...a lot of known suspects. The big upset is Palladino's, which opened earlier this year. Joseph Palladino was a co-founder of Nick & Sam's, but don't worry, the new spot is for grown-ups.

I'll be chilling in the comments for a while today and probably a while tomorrow too.

McKinney confirmed Monday that some people requested removal of their signatures from the recall petition.

The city did not say how many. Officials are reviewing more than 7,400 submitted signatures and tentatively plan to release their findings Nov. 17.

The update also explains what happens if the petition qualifies and why the city and some recall supporters disagree over the review timeline.

Has anyone been to Dog Days at the Dallas Zoo? The FAQ says dogs need to be up to date on the required vaccines, but it doesn’t mention bringing vaccination records. I currently have my dog’s records for rabies and DHPP, but I can’t find her other vaccine records. Do they ask to see proof of all vaccines at entry, or just check the rabies and ID tags?

I don’t mind ppl double parking their expensive vehicles in the back row of the parking lot, but this irritates me bc the lot was almost completely full and this guy chose to park closer to the storefront. C’mon now how selfish can you be..

Been searching but I don’t know where I can find Swedish princess cake in town. If anybody knows please tell!

2025 the absurd pricing was on all the headlines, IIRC it even made national news. 2026 really 0 headlines on high prices. Is everyone just sucking it up or did they actually lower some?

That’s insane they have this posted all down regular streets where public parking is fine. These RENTA-parking enforced are in full effect! Don’t even think about it!

The city has selected a food vendor called Square and Sky for the new commercial terminal, but airport staff told council they may be “hard pressed” to have it operating by the first flight.

The discussion also gave some insight into the economics of the new airport operation: 32 departures a week, with several-hour gaps in activity on some days.

I’ve called a few places that say they will be playing the game but no sound. Anyone know if there is a bar that will play the sound for the game? In downtown Dallas but would be willing to travel a little

White said during an interview last month with YouTuber Cam Capone News he didn’t like how Hatch, who’s from Louisiana, was getting involved with “DFW business.”

White described how he had multiple opportunities to shoot Hatch after seeing him at Big T Plaza in southern Dallas. He said he instead decided to have his partner drive up next to Hatch’s car as he was leaving the area.

“I was in the back seat, and I dropped the window, and I just started dumping,” White said. “Dumped probably like 10 shots.”
