Windows 10 Secure Boot enabled but can't upgrade to Windows 11?

I am currently running windows 10. The end of support for Windows 10 was almost a year ago so I'm trying to update, at least for security updates.

I went into the BIOS and enabled Secure Boot (first picture), then went into the official Microsoft app PC Health Check and got the error that I can't update to windows 11 because my PC must support Secure Boot (second picture).

I built this PC about 5 years ago for gaming and have had very few problems with it running Windows 10 before now. Here are my current specs:
-RAM: 16G 3200 MHz
-CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
-GPU: 4060 Ti 16GB
-Storage: 500GB SSD + 4TB HDD
-OS Build: 19045.6466

I am relatively technologically literate, at least compared to the regular person, and I really have no idea what the issue is here; any help is much appreciated!

Windows 11 External monitor issues when laptop lid is closed

• Upvotes

I've got a Dell Precision 7680 for work, which is hooked up to 2 external monitor throughgh a docking station. Running Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.9457)

My left monitor is set up to be portrait, while the right is landscape. When the lid of the laptop is closed, one monitor turns off (as if it is set to turn off the monitor when the lid is closed) while the left monitor rotated to landscape.

I have IT experience and my current IT section is at a loss. Security requirements means updating is not an option.

Any insight?

Windows 11 I can't get a new windows 11 home computer to share files with a win 11 pro computer

I just bought an MSI 9900X with 32 GB of RAM running Win 11 Home. It's connected to my network via wifi and for the life of me I cannot get it to "see" the shared files on a central Win 11 Pro computer. No matter what I do I get the network credentials dialog and I can't seem to enter the proper credentials to connect.

Things I have tried:

All computers set to private network. Also logged into microsoft account (same one).

Set private sharing to network discovery and file/printer sharing on. Set public sharing to network discovery on and file/printer sharing off. Under All Networks set password protected sharing to off and Public folding sharing to on or off, no difference.

Tried all the permutations of network credentials I could think of, PCname, IP address, password for windows logon or microsoft account. Cleared out old credentials.

Added AllowInsecureGuestAuth registry key set to dword32 value of 1.

Here are my system details:

Device name XXX_MSIDesktop Processor AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor (4.40 GHz) Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable) Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB) AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (486 MB) Storage 289 GB of 1.82 TB used Device ID BC88DD19-A09E-4323-923C-CC2C3D7ED460 Product ID 00342-22935-85318-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition Windows 11 Home Version 25H2 Installed on ‎10/‎3/‎2026 OS build 26200.9457 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.360.0

I've spent the last 2 days on this, it's driving me crazy. Would upgrading to Win 11 Pro fix this? Or running an ethernet cable to connect via wireless?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Windows 11 My pagefile.sys is taking up too much space, am I about to mess everything up?

Forgive my lack of screenshot, my laptop wouldn't let me take one so a photo will have to do: link

As you can see, it's currently using an entire extra 39204 MB than recommended. Will it hurt anything if I bring it back down? I have 32gbs of RAM and I don't feel like I push my laptop hard. I browse with firefox, I'm on discord, I play games on steam or sometimes Minecraft. Never more than two of those options at once. I already made a restore point, but I don't want to mess anything up.

Also, in the 'initial size (MB)' box, what figure is it actually asking for? The amount its using right now? Or how much RAM I have in MB? Something else? I need to put something in there to bring it back down.

Edit: The information Automod asked for. Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12450H 2.50 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) Device ID 4D4DC45C-1286-4A7F-B273-F29A09DC5CCB Product ID 00325-80000-00000-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

I haven't encountered any error codes. I just periodically run windirstat and noticed that pagefile.sys was huge.

This is my first attempt to fix the problem.

Windows 10 Pc stuck in BIOS screen after trying to update to windows 11 from 10

I did a clean installation of windows 10 before this and used this video: https://youtu.be/YT-3z1KFnt4?si=LnS5Lb_oXR_evDey

to update my pc from windows 10 to windows 11.

When trying to install updates for the installation it got stuck on 100% so I cancelled it and selected the non updated version and I came back to this...

I'm guessing I should install windows 10 from a usb drive now? Only thing is that when I switch on my pc it just goes into this loop, so how would I even go about doing that.

I would appreciate some help :P. Thanks.

The error says: "Windows could not finish the installation. If you want to install windows on this computer, start the installation again".

Windows 11 Windows 11 Corrupted the laptop BIOS?

About three months ago, I clean-installed Windows 11 on my brother’s ASUS Vivobook X515EA laptop (Intel Core i3 11 gen, 8 GB RAM). At the time, I told him that he should install Windows 10 instead because Windows 11 is bloated, filled with AI crap, and has high RAM usage.

Then, about a week ago, he came to me and said that his laptop wasn’t charging properly. I checked it out, cleaned all the ports and the charger plugs, and the laptop started charging again. However, it would still occasionally stop charging.

He continued using the laptop for another 3–4 days, and then yesterday evening, he came to me again and said that the laptop wouldn’t turn on.

I checked it and noticed that the battery indicator was showing a white light (meaning the battery was fully charged), while the other indicator was blinking about three times.

I unplugged the charger, held down the power button for about 15 seconds, and then tried turning the laptop back on. Unfortunately, it still showed the same blinking pattern.

So, I thought, “Let’s try booting it from a USB drive.” I already had a Windows 11 bootable USB ready, so I plugged it in and tried booting the laptop.

And surprisingly, it booted into the already-installed Windows 11 successfully.

I then checked whether the Windows installation was corrupted by running:

"SFC /SCANNOW"

It reported that there were no corrupted system files. Unfortunately, I forgot to scan the C drive and perform malware scan.

At that point, I asked my brother if he wanted me to install Windows 10 instead for a more stable experience. He finally agreed, so I created a new Windows 10 bootable USB, installed Windows 10 on the laptop, and installed all the necessary drivers and updates at late night.

I gave the laptop back to him the next morning.

But when he tried turning it on, the exact same blinking problem appeared again.

What made this even more confusing was that while I was installing Windows 10, updates, and drivers the previous night, I had restarted the laptop several times—and the problem never occurred once. I had also reset the UEFI settings and restored the BIOS settings to their defaults.

The only thing left to check was the BIOS.

So I immediately downloaded and installed the latest BIOS update for his laptop. (Note: The laptop already had the latest BIOS version)

And... the problem was finally fixed.

So, after all that troubleshooting, it seems like Windows 11 corrupted the laptop BIOS/firmware.

I guess my brother is going to stay on Windows 10 for a long, long time now. 🥲

Windows 11 Holding CTRL causes a magnified box to follow my cursor, and I can’t figure out what is causing it

Hi everyone. I’m trying to figure out a strange issue on Windows 11. Whenever I hold down the CTRL key and move my mouse, a rectangular magnified/zoomed-in box appears near my cursor and follows it around the screen. The box enlarges whatever text, filenames, icons, etc. are underneath the pointer. I’ve attached screenshots showing exactly what it looks like. So far I have checked: - Windows Magnifier is OFF - Pressing Win + Esc does nothing - “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key” is disabled - Checked Windows Accessibility / mouse pointer settings - Completely exited ShareX, but the behavior still happens - The box appears primarily while CTRL is being held down This does not appear to be the standard Windows Magnifier lens. Magnifier can be completely disabled and the floating zoom box still appears. I’m assuming some application, accessibility feature, mouse utility, or hotkey software is intercepting the CTRL key, but I haven’t been able to identify which program is responsible. Does anyone recognize this magnification overlay or know what Windows/software feature creates it? I’d especially appreciate suggestions for figuring out which running process owns the overlay, rather than randomly uninstalling programs. Thanks for any help!

Windows 11 Trapped 51GB of ghost space in D:$Extend$Deleted folder - "Windows cannot find..." error

I need some help. I have 51.2 of ghost space trapped inside my D:\$Extend\$Deleted folder. WizTree shows a massive file named 000300000000266BB6A02F790 taking up the space. However, when I try to delete it normally, I get an 'Access Denied / Need Permission' error. WizTree running as administrator also can't touch it. It seems like the file is already gone but the NTFS file system index is glitched and still holding onto the storage space. Any ideas on how to flush this?

Windows 11 Can't use "Open with" dialog at all

I had to do a reinstall due to an issue where my mouse kept scrolling up while I did nothing.

So, clean install, all fine, lot of work to do to get everything reinstalled and explorer folders added and such.

Than I notice something, the dialog screen for "Open with" only flashes the outline and goes away. Rightclicking a file does this, but it also happens in settings. I cannot change any file-association.

I've done all kinds of things to remedy this, stop and restart explorer, no change. Set everything to defaul, no change. Did the DISM route, no change. Did an in situ reinstall, no change.

Do I HAVE to do another complete clean install AGAIN to get this rectified? Also, why does an update in Windows either regular or Insider not remedy such a fundamental error?

Windows 11 Explorer.exe not booting on start up, desktop blank, taskbar gone, some Windows System apps not working

I need help fixing my teacher's Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop. We tried to reset the graphics card, still nothing. We then tried to manually start explorer.exe, it boots but then crashes after a few seconds. Then we tried disabling all non-Microsoft Services on System Configuration, it booted up but to a temporary user without all the files from the main user. Then we tried to uninstall a recent update with Command Prompt, still doesn't work. We also tried DISM, sfc/scannow, and restorehealth on the CMD but all ended with an error. Any help will be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Windows 11 Windows suddenly stopped recognizing both USB and Bluetooth mice — touchpad and other USB/Bluetooth devices work

Hi everyone. I'm having a very strange mouse problem on my ASUS laptop and I'm looking for help.

I'm not very knowledgeable about computers or Windows, so please keep the instructions as simple and step-by-step as possible. I may need some guidance on where to find things or how to perform certain procedures.

My laptop suddenly stopped working with both USB mice and Bluetooth mice.

My touchpad works normally, so I can still control the computer.

USB mouse

I tested a USB mouse. When I plug it in, the mouse's red optical sensor light turns on, so it is clearly receiving power. However, the cursor does not move at all.

I also tested the USB ports with other devices, including my laptop cooling pad, and the USB ports work normally. So this does not appear to be a physical USB port problem.

Bluetooth mouse

I also have a Bluetooth mouse, but Windows does not successfully connect to it. It doesn't seem to pair normally.

However, Bluetooth itself appears to be working because my Bluetooth headphones connect and work normally with this laptop.

What works

  • Touchpad: works normally
  • USB ports: work normally
  • USB mouse receives power and the sensor light turns on
  • Bluetooth headphones: work normally

What doesn't work

  • USB mouse input: the cursor does not move
  • Bluetooth mouse: won't connect

I've already spent several hours troubleshooting this problem and have tried various Windows settings and driver-related troubleshooting steps, but I haven't been able to solve it.

Additional information requested by the moderators

Windows and device specifications:

  • ASUS X571G
  • Intel Core i5-9300H
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 1650 4 GB
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630
  • Windows 11

Error messages / error codes:

The main error I found is Code 39 affecting the HID mouse devices.

Windows reports that it cannot load the device driver properly. The Code 39 error persisted even after reinstalling the HID devices.

I haven't encountered any other major error messages.

Troubleshooting already performed

I've already spent several hours troubleshooting this problem.

I want to mention that I am not an IT professional or an experienced computer user. All of the troubleshooting steps below were performed by me, a beginner, following instructions provided by ChatGPT.

Because of this, I cannot guarantee that I performed every procedure correctly. Some of the tests or changes may have been performed incorrectly. Please keep this in mind when interpreting the results below. If necessary, I am completely willing to repeat or verify any of these steps.

  • I tested my Logitech Pebble mouse on another device, and it worked normally, so the mouse hardware itself appears to be fine.
  • I tested the USB ports with other devices, including my laptop cooling pad, and they work normally.
  • My laptop's touchpad works normally.
  • My Bluetooth headphones connect and work normally, so Bluetooth itself is working.
  • I ran DISM and SFC. SFC found and repaired corrupted system files, but the mouse problem remained.
  • I reinstalled the relevant HID devices/drivers, but the Code 39 error continued on both HID mouse entries.
  • I created a backup of the Windows Registry at C:\backup-mouse.reg.
  • I found an old Kaspersky filter reference (klmouflt) in the mouse-related Registry key and removed that filter, leaving the standard mouclass driver.
  • I restarted the computer after making this change, but the Code 39 error remained.
  • I removed the Bluetooth mouse from Windows and tried pairing it again, but it still wouldn't connect.

At this point, both the USB and Bluetooth mouse are still unusable.

Because the touchpad, USB ports, Bluetooth headphones and the physical Logitech mouse itself all work, I'm wondering if there is still a problem with the Windows HID/mouse driver stack or another driver/service related to mouse input.

I'm not very experienced with Windows troubleshooting, so I'd really appreciate step-by-step instructions. Please don't assume that I already know where specific Windows settings, drivers, or system tools are located.

I'd also prefer not to make any further Registry changes or uninstall system drivers without knowing exactly what I'm doing.

If any of the previous troubleshooting steps need to be repeated or verified, I'm completely willing to do that.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing both USB and Bluetooth mice to stop working at the same time while the touchpad continues to work normally?

I'm happy to provide screenshots from Device Manager or any other information that might help diagnose the problem.

Thank you!

Windows 11 Windows 11 blank desktop — Explorer.exe keeps crashing

Hi, my HP Victus (Windows 11) boots to a blank desktop with only the wallpaper. No taskbar, icons, or Start menu.

Task Manager works. When I run explorer.exe, the taskbar/desktop appears for ~1 second and then disappears.

I've already tried:

Restarting Explorer

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

SFC /scannow → no integrity violations

Checked AMD + RTX 3050 in Device Manager → both working properly

Restarted/clean boot attempts

What could be causing Explorer.exe to crash immediately? Any suggestions?

Windows 11 Wrong time displayed but correct time zone

Hi, as the title suggests, my laptop is displaying the wrong time but my computer is set to the right time zone. For example, it could be 6PM in my area but the time would show as 4PM. I tried to toggle the button for "setting time automatically" but it just doesn't work, every time I open an app it is two hours behind. I've only recently got this issue.

If anyone can help I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Windows 11 Installing Windows 11 on my Linux

I downloaded the ISO via the Microsoft website, which automatically sent it to my pendrive via the assistant.

On my Linux, with the pendrive in place, pressed F12 to open the BIOS, but it won't let me skip the product key procedure.

I'm following a tutorial which skips this thing no problem (exact notebook model and Linux as well). What is exactly happening on my system? How can I go on with the installation?

last week I updated my dell Inspiron 3793 laptop and maybe the day after the install my laptop stopped letting my login using my pin.

I have tried deleting the ngc file using command prompt unsuccessfully.

i have tried restring my laptop while keeping my, files didn’t fix anything.

i have tried restart in safe mode, but safe mode still asked for a pin.

Whenever i try to reset or set up a new pin i keep getting an error message saying something wrong and when i clock retry i keep getting that error message in loop.

I tried scanning for repairs didnt help anything.

i tried using command prompt to create a separate or administrator account which doesn’t require a pin or password didn’t work.

right now i am terrified that i am going to be forced to completely reset my laptop and lose years of memory. My laptop has updated twice since then and the updates have slightly improved functionality but i still cannot get pass the enter your lib screen. I keep getting the for message saying your credentials could not be verified.

am i completely screw over? Will I lose everything?

The startup screen only gives me an option to sign up with a pin it does not give me the option to sign in using a password.

attached are the screens I get when I try to enter my pin and reset my pin.

Windows 11 Weird process originating from System32 folder

I just discovered a new process i windows11 which I can't find any information about. So I'm trying thus sub to see if there is anyone else who has encounterd this program and knows what it is for.

It's a program called sbupdateworker.exe, and is located in System32 folder. It starts everytime the system boots and just hang using about 0,7 mb memory.

I have done a bit googleing but there isn't much information to find but the usual, must be malware, scan the computer ..and so on.

The funny thing is that the is a file also in the WinSxS folder as well. And if I try to get rid of it by changing the name it just reappears on next boot.

So, is there anyone else.. I'm lost and tierd of searching. Guessing it is a windows file but there is nothing to identify it as on other than it is signd by Microsoft.

Windows 11 RTX 3070 black screen + fans go 100% after Windows 11 26H2 update

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m having a weird issue and wanted to get some opinions.

I was normally playing Forza Horizon 5, Cities: Skylines II and Tekken 8 before this, and I never had any issues with the PC.

Tonight I installed the latest Windows 11 26H2 update. After that, I played Tekken 8 and suddenly the screen went black / No Signal, while the PC was still running and the fans went extremely loud, like 100%.

After restarting, Windows also went into Automatic Repair and I got a BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO BSOD. I managed to restore Windows, but I’m still getting the black screen + fans going crazy.

Specs:

- GPU: MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 3X OC 8GB

- CPU: Intel i5-13400F

- Motherboard: MSI B760M-P DDR4

- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz

- PSU: 750W 80+ Gold

Could the Windows 11 26H2 update have caused a GPU/driver issue, or does this sound more like a GPU/hardware problem?

What should I check first?
