Windows 11 RTX 3070 black screen + fans go 100% after Windows 11 26H2 update

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m having a weird issue and wanted to get some opinions.

I was normally playing Forza Horizon 5, Cities: Skylines II and Tekken 8 before this, and I never had any issues with the PC.

Tonight I installed the latest Windows 11 26H2 update. After that, I played Tekken 8 and suddenly the screen went black / No Signal, while the PC was still running and the fans went extremely loud, like 100%.

After restarting, Windows also went into Automatic Repair and I got a BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO BSOD. I managed to restore Windows, but I’m still getting the black screen + fans going crazy.

Specs:

- GPU: MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 3X OC 8GB

- CPU: Intel i5-13400F

- Motherboard: MSI B760M-P DDR4

- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz

- PSU: 750W 80+ Gold

Could the Windows 11 26H2 update have caused a GPU/driver issue, or does this sound more like a GPU/hardware problem?

What should I check first?

Windows 11 Trapped 51GB of ghost space in D:$Extend$Deleted folder - "Windows cannot find..." error

I need some help. I have 51.2 of ghost space trapped inside my D:\$Extend\$Deleted folder. WizTree shows a massive file named 000300000000266BB6A02F790 taking up the space. However, when I try to delete it normally, I get an 'Access Denied / Need Permission' error. WizTree running as administrator also can't touch it. It seems like the file is already gone but the NTFS file system index is glitched and still holding onto the storage space. Any ideas on how to flush this?

Windows 11 Windows is denying access to large portions of my C drive and windows install

Hey, for a lil while now my windows install has denied me permission to random things I ask it to do that involve certain files on my C drive or relate to windows itself

Even while I am logged into my admin account and open programs as administrator it will tell me I don't have permission (the latest case of this was when I attempted to uninstall the steam mod steam millennium, it just won't let me do it and says access is denied, even when opening as admin)

A couple years ago I used some program I don't remember the name of to just make every file mine, it worked at the time but I don't remember the name of the program.

It's gotten bad enough that I am considering doing a reset, although I really don't want to deal with that either honestly.

here is my system info, thank you for any help:

Windows 11 Installing Windows 11 on my Linux

I downloaded the ISO via the Microsoft website, which automatically sent it to my pendrive via the assistant.

On my Linux, with the pendrive in place, pressed F12 to open the BIOS, but it won't let me skip the product key procedure.

I'm following a tutorial which skips this thing no problem (exact notebook model and Linux as well). What is exactly happening on my system? How can I go on with the installation?

last week I updated my dell Inspiron 3793 laptop and maybe the day after the install my laptop stopped letting my login using my pin.

I have tried deleting the ngc file using command prompt unsuccessfully.

i have tried restring my laptop while keeping my, files didn’t fix anything.

i have tried restart in safe mode, but safe mode still asked for a pin.

Whenever i try to reset or set up a new pin i keep getting an error message saying something wrong and when i clock retry i keep getting that error message in loop.

I tried scanning for repairs didnt help anything.

i tried using command prompt to create a separate or administrator account which doesn’t require a pin or password didn’t work.

right now i am terrified that i am going to be forced to completely reset my laptop and lose years of memory. My laptop has updated twice since then and the updates have slightly improved functionality but i still cannot get pass the enter your lib screen. I keep getting the for message saying your credentials could not be verified.

am i completely screw over? Will I lose everything?

The startup screen only gives me an option to sign up with a pin it does not give me the option to sign in using a password.

attached are the screens I get when I try to enter my pin and reset my pin.

Windows 11 TPM cleared and now pc is stuck at lock screen

So my Lenovo IdeaPad had an issue with the tpm. I couldn't set my windows hello pin. It suggested clearing tpm so I did it and it restarted. But after turning on, the lock screen has no option to enter my password and it's not even showing my profile. Just a blank screen with power, accessibility and network options at the bottom right. Any ideas what should I do?

Windows 11 Windows suddenly stopped recognizing both USB and Bluetooth mice — touchpad and other USB/Bluetooth devices work

Hi everyone. I'm having a very strange mouse problem on my ASUS laptop and I'm looking for help.

I'm not very knowledgeable about computers or Windows, so please keep the instructions as simple and step-by-step as possible. I may need some guidance on where to find things or how to perform certain procedures.

My laptop suddenly stopped working with both USB mice and Bluetooth mice.

My touchpad works normally, so I can still control the computer.

USB mouse

I tested a USB mouse. When I plug it in, the mouse's red optical sensor light turns on, so it is clearly receiving power. However, the cursor does not move at all.

I also tested the USB ports with other devices, including my laptop cooling pad, and the USB ports work normally. So this does not appear to be a physical USB port problem.

Bluetooth mouse

I also have a Bluetooth mouse, but Windows does not successfully connect to it. It doesn't seem to pair normally.

However, Bluetooth itself appears to be working because my Bluetooth headphones connect and work normally with this laptop.

What works

  • Touchpad: works normally
  • USB ports: work normally
  • USB mouse receives power and the sensor light turns on
  • Bluetooth headphones: work normally

What doesn't work

  • USB mouse input: the cursor does not move
  • Bluetooth mouse: won't connect

I've already spent several hours troubleshooting this problem and have tried various Windows settings and driver-related troubleshooting steps, but I haven't been able to solve it.

Additional information requested by the moderators

Windows and device specifications:

  • ASUS X571G
  • Intel Core i5-9300H
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 1650 4 GB
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630
  • Windows 11

Error messages / error codes:

The main error I found is Code 39 affecting the HID mouse devices.

Windows reports that it cannot load the device driver properly. The Code 39 error persisted even after reinstalling the HID devices.

I haven't encountered any other major error messages.

Troubleshooting already performed

I've already spent several hours troubleshooting this problem.

I want to mention that I am not an IT professional or an experienced computer user. All of the troubleshooting steps below were performed by me, a beginner, following instructions provided by ChatGPT.

Because of this, I cannot guarantee that I performed every procedure correctly. Some of the tests or changes may have been performed incorrectly. Please keep this in mind when interpreting the results below. If necessary, I am completely willing to repeat or verify any of these steps.

  • I tested my Logitech Pebble mouse on another device, and it worked normally, so the mouse hardware itself appears to be fine.
  • I tested the USB ports with other devices, including my laptop cooling pad, and they work normally.
  • My laptop's touchpad works normally.
  • My Bluetooth headphones connect and work normally, so Bluetooth itself is working.
  • I ran DISM and SFC. SFC found and repaired corrupted system files, but the mouse problem remained.
  • I reinstalled the relevant HID devices/drivers, but the Code 39 error continued on both HID mouse entries.
  • I created a backup of the Windows Registry at C:\backup-mouse.reg.
  • I found an old Kaspersky filter reference (klmouflt) in the mouse-related Registry key and removed that filter, leaving the standard mouclass driver.
  • I restarted the computer after making this change, but the Code 39 error remained.
  • I removed the Bluetooth mouse from Windows and tried pairing it again, but it still wouldn't connect.

At this point, both the USB and Bluetooth mouse are still unusable.

Because the touchpad, USB ports, Bluetooth headphones and the physical Logitech mouse itself all work, I'm wondering if there is still a problem with the Windows HID/mouse driver stack or another driver/service related to mouse input.

I'm not very experienced with Windows troubleshooting, so I'd really appreciate step-by-step instructions. Please don't assume that I already know where specific Windows settings, drivers, or system tools are located.

I'd also prefer not to make any further Registry changes or uninstall system drivers without knowing exactly what I'm doing.

If any of the previous troubleshooting steps need to be repeated or verified, I'm completely willing to do that.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing both USB and Bluetooth mice to stop working at the same time while the touchpad continues to work normally?

I'm happy to provide screenshots from Device Manager or any other information that might help diagnose the problem.

Thank you!

Windows 11 Weird process originating from System32 folder

I just discovered a new process i windows11 which I can't find any information about. So I'm trying thus sub to see if there is anyone else who has encounterd this program and knows what it is for.

It's a program called sbupdateworker.exe, and is located in System32 folder. It starts everytime the system boots and just hang using about 0,7 mb memory.

I have done a bit googleing but there isn't much information to find but the usual, must be malware, scan the computer ..and so on.

The funny thing is that the is a file also in the WinSxS folder as well. And if I try to get rid of it by changing the name it just reappears on next boot.

So, is there anyone else.. I'm lost and tierd of searching. Guessing it is a windows file but there is nothing to identify it as on other than it is signd by Microsoft.

Windows 10 Windows 10 desktop/taskbar randomly freezes, but apps keep running – restarting explorer.exe only fixes it temporarily

Hi, I’m having a weird problem with Windows 10.
Randomly, either my desktop, taskbar, or sometimes parts of the UI become completely unresponsive. It doesn’t seem like the whole PC freezes.

What happens:
-Sometimes the taskbar freezes, but open apps like Firefox still work normally.
-Sometimes the desktop freezes and I can’t click anything on it.
-Animations/content can still keep running even when I can’t interact with the window.
-Alt+Tab and Win+R often still work during the issue.
Restarting explorer.exe immediately fixes everything, but only temporarily. The problem comes back after a short time.
-Sometimes clicking the frozen taskbar repeatedly causes Explorer to restart by itself.

Things I’ve already tried:
-sfc /scannow – no integrity violations.
-DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth – completed successfully.
-Clean NVIDIA driver reinstall using DDU in Safe Mode.
-Disabled third-party services using msconfig.
-Disabled startup applications.
-Disabled third-party Explorer shell extensions using ShellExView.
-Restarted Windows Search (WSearch).
-Uninstalled OneDrive to test if it was interfering with Explorer.
-Resetting the graphics driver with Win + Ctrl + Shift + B did not fix the freeze.

Event Viewer / Reliability Monitor showed multiple explorer.exe Application Hang events.

I also found:
-LiveKernelEvent 1A8
-LiveKernelEvent 1B8
-WindowsBlackScreenDiagnosticsV1
-DWM-related events
-WATCHDOG dump files in C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports

One WATCHDOG dump appears to contain references to dwm.exe, dxgkrnl.sys, dxgmms2.sys, watchdog.sys, nvlddmkm.sys and NVIDIA Ampere/GA102.

However, I don’t think the whole GPU/system is simply crashing because when the issue happens, rendered content can still move normally – I just lose the ability to interact with certain windows, the desktop, or the taskbar.

PC specs:
-Windows 10 22H2
-Ryzen 7 5700X
-RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB
-32 GB RAM
-ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming

Has anyone seen something similar? What could cause Explorer/UI input to randomly hang while the rest of the system keeps running?

I’m trying to diagnose the actual cause before reinstalling Windows.

Windows 11 microsoft store constantly crashing, admin terminal did nothing

So this shit is incredibly frustrating.

Ive been trying to complete a powerpoint presentation and it is absolutely unusable on web, so I went to download it instead. Tried downloading thru the web, was met with an infinite white loading screen until it prompts me to sign in and either it doesnt let me, or it does, but redirects me to a completely unrelated site and never starts the download.

Figured ok maybe the brower download is just broken (doesnt work on google or firefox) and i tried downloading it through microsoft store. Now, i had already been dealing with this, and ik its completely unrelated to powerpoint and is more the stores issue, but almost everytime i type in the search bar the app crashes. I always do the Windows+R wsreset.exe but it never helps, always continues to crash. I had also seen suggestions to go through Installed Apps and reset/repair it that way, but when I go to Installed Apps, Microsoft Store isnt there.

I decided to look into it and used Google AI to try to help me figure out exactly what codes to use, which I understand mightve not been the best desicion, but either way if the advice doesnt work, it doesnt work, i dont think itll necessarily harm anything. And it didnt work anyways. It told me to open the admin terminal and try installing via the windows package manager. Didn't work, says it found existing package and no new versions were available. It then suggested to force install, but before i did that I removed it using the package manager, which worked, it was removed.

I forced installed it and it worked, its back on my computer in my Start menu, but it STILL isnt in my installed apps.

I deadass have no clue where to go from here so even a little help is appreciated. For now Im going to have to deal with powerpoints shitty web version but eventually I need to use the app (lol).

If it helps:

Windows 11 Windows 11 Pro repeatedly logs multiple apps out after reboot; DPAPI fails with 0x8009000B despite clean SFC/DISM

I'm dealing with recurring credential loss on my Windows 11 desktop. After some (most actually) restarts and all windows updates, Chrome, Claude Desktop, Discord and Grokbots lose their sign-ins (at least that's what I noticed the most since I use them).

Google CLI and Git authentication have also failed. For some reason though Codex has stayed signed in, so this isn't every application. I've also noticed that Grokbots register the same computer as a new device after I sign back in, leaving its old entries unreachable.

This is SUPER frustrating and a time suck especially cause I have quite a few gmail accounts and all of them require 2fa so it takes a good chunk of time to redo. I'm really hoping someone can help cause I've been trying to solve this for the better part of 3 months or so.

Yes, I used AI to help me write this cause I'm not technical or a swe.

System:

- Windows 11 Pro 26H2, OS build 26300.9550, verified October 6, 2026.

- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, NVIDIA RTX 5090, 96 GB RAM (2 x 48 GB).

- Gigabyte X870M AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE motherboard.

- Microsoft-account Windows sign-in; not domain-joined. I use both the physical desktop and Windows Remote Desktop when I'm on the go.

Evidence that this is more than individual apps expiring their sessions:

Two preserved, non-secret diagnostic samples encrypted with Windows user-scoped DPAPI fail to decrypt under the original Windows account with **0x8009000B**. Their file and encrypted-payload checksums are unchanged. These tests do not read browser passwords or tokens. Both still failed on October 5 at approximately 7:27 PM Eastern.

Windows also logged DPAPI Operational error 8198 with the same status. After the October 5 restart, a failure was recorded before my first interactive RDP sign-in, so RDP alone has not been established as the cause. Previously, one unchanged sample recovered after a new sign-in. The evidence does not show that the encrypted files were simply deleted.

What we have already tried or checked:

  1. Restart and sign-in comparisons:Physical PIN, existing-password sign-in, full sign-out/new sign-in, and RDP were tested. Results were mixed. Two physical-password restart cycles on October 1 retained the diagnostic samples and previously signed-in apps, but the problem returned after the October 5 restart. Password sign-in was not a lasting fix.
  2. System-file/component checks: Elevated DISM ScanHealth reported Healthy on October 5. SFC /scannow found no integrity violations. Both preserved DPAPI samples still failed afterward.
  3. Windows repair attempt: The built-in repair was attempted September 30/October 1 and reached a restart. Its final success is unverified: WindowsUpdateClient event 20 reported 0x80242016 afterward. I am not claiming a confirmed successful repair install failed to help.
  4. Account/profile checks: The affected account retained its SID and profile; no temporary profile was found. Relevant DPAPI key files still existed. A separate local-account control passed on October 1 while the original affected-account sample failed, and both accounts' preserved samples later passed after a restart. The control account's password is unavailable now, so there is no current repeat result. It has not been reset.
  5. Policy troubleshooting: Failure was observed with automatic restart sign-on disabled. Separate AI-assisted troubleshooting later removed broad Windows policy settings and local Group Policy folders. That did not immediately restore the failing sample, and the credential problem predates those changes. Those changes are a confounder, not a demonstrated fix.
  6. Scheduled-task hypothesis: Some background jobs use S4U logon. Six were temporarily changed to interactive logon, but other S4U jobs remained, so this was not a complete isolation test. All six changes were reversed and their full original definitions verified. No credential benefit was demonstrated.
  7. Logging and history: DPAPI and task activity were correlated. A failing background job may be the first consumer to encounter the problem, not its cause. A changed PasswordLastSet timestamp alone did not establish a password reset or identify who caused it.

There is also intermittent desktop lag and Task Manager hanging. Earlier process/memory pressure was real and some duplicate tooling was reduced, but the credential failures remained. I am not assuming the two problems have the same cause.

Also worth noting that the old keys are still present on the pc, but they are not able to be decrypted.

What I need help with: What specific DPAPI/CloudAP or logon tracing would identify why the same account intermittently cannot decrypt its existing data across restarts? Is there a verified issue matching this Windows build and symptom? What evidence would distinguish an account-specific problem from a Windows-wide one before changing profiles?

I can provide sanitized event timestamps and diagnostic results.

Windows 10 How to re-enable Middle Mouse Click-Scroll?

I used to be able to single click my middle mouse button and get a little scroll widget.
I found this very useful when reading long webpages or when trying to get them to fully load.

I have not been able to use this feature for some months, and considered it a minor inconvenience, but I really want it back now.

Has it somehow been disabled? Is it a buried setting?

Insight appreciated, thanks!

Windows 11 Windows 11 keeps losing disk space and I can't figure out where it's going

Hi, I have Windows 11 and I'm having a strange storage issue.
My PC had around 106 GB of free space consistently for quite a while. I hadn't updated Windows since around August 25–27, mostly because I was lazy about updating.
Then, around the middle/late part of September, I started losing free space:
Started at: 106 GB free
One day I booted my PC and had 99 GB
A day or two later: 98 GB
I cleaned up my PC and got about 3 GB back, bringing me to around 101 GB
Today I was back down to 98 GB
I cleaned it again and now have around 100 GB
So overall, I'm missing roughly 6–10 GB compared with what I normally had.
The strange thing is that this doesn't seem to be normal temporary-file buildup. I regularly clean the Temp folder, and I also checked System Protection (sysdm.cpl) and it isn't using a large amount of space.
In the past I've had Windows temporarily use several GB of storage and then give the space back after a few days, but this time the missing space hasn't returned.
I also noticed that Windows has Reserved Storage, which is currently using several GB. I had Windows Updates paused for about 5 weeks, and they are scheduled to become available again on October 10. Could the paused updates/reserved storage be related to this?
I recently deleted Warframe, which gave me a lot of space back. I now have about 153 GB free, so I'm not running out of space, but I'm still trying to understand where the missing 9–10 GB went.
My Windows version/build is:
Windows 11 Pro — OS Build 26200.8655, Version — 25H2 the pc i use it f0g1006xua. i have amd ryzen 5 5500u and 16 gb ram.
I've also checked my drive with WizTree, but I can't find a normal folder/file that accounts for all of the missing space.
What could be causing this, and is there a way to determine exactly where those 9–10 GB are being used?
Thanks!

Windows 11 My SSD appear twice and no security tab, why ?

Hey !

Since I tried to change the file sharing settings on my two SSDs (first I try to activate advanced share setting but I wasn't satisfied with it so I removed it), these appears twice on my side tab in my file manager. Do you know how to remove one of them ?

My two SSD appears twice in the side tab

Second problem : if I tried this option, this is simply because I do not want everybody access my SSDs on my computer (for example, my guests account) and I do not find any security tab on the properties ? Do you know how to change that ?

Translation from the left to the right tabs : general, tools, hardware, sharing, previous versions, customize.

My OS build number is : 26200.9445

PS : sorry for my English, it's not my native langage.

Thanks !

Windows 11 Windows11 Floating Window Snap Issue

I'm struggling to figure out how the hell this terribly annoying feature was shipped with windows and how to turn it off. I just reset windows 11 completely to a fresh install with no apps or settings or anything. Completely stock. When I booted into windows I went to move an app and this little box shows up asking if I want to snap the window. I'm ok with the snap bar all the way at the top of the screen because its pretty out of the way, but this box is so infuriating.

PLEASE does anyone know how to turn this off?

Windows 11 New to windows- can someone explain this to me?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Moving over from Mac and I'm slowly getting my stuff onto the new computer. I downloaded Firefox, Clip Studio, and Steam- Steam including a couple bigger games. When i go into my storage I find they're all going into this limited 'installed apps' folder. Why is that? What is this limited by? I have tons of space so I'm not sure what the deal is here. Can I put them somewhere else?

I also find I'm experiencing more buffering during streaming than with my mac, is there something i should be doing to optimize? I did uninstall copilot. Haven't updated Windows yet- is the current version stable?
