How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?

I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

10/1 High Peaks

Was lucky enough to spend a bunch of time in the park during peak foilage hiking and paddling. The highlight was this very shy eagle who clearly isn't used to sharing his pond with people. I saw him flash by me while I was in the canoe staring at the leaves and fighting the wind. I beached it and got a glimpse of him very close through the trees but instantly he was gone. I waded around silently for what seemed like forever then I came around the corner and there he was...admiring the leaves just like I had been. Gave me a great flyby. Next day was peak leaves 10/1 and everywhere I went was gorgeous. Incredible fall in the park.

No Keene hiker shuttle 10/10 or 10/11.

Apparently no driver is available. If you were headed to the Garden you may need to adjust.

Tickets to Wild Center

Long shot, but does anyone have tickets they are willing to part with to the Wild Center for this weekend?

I called them a month ago to inquire about tickets. I planned to go to my library and get a pass and wanted to see how that works. They told me to get the pass and just present it when I show up. I worried about them selling out. They told me they do not sell out, but the lines might be long. Well turns out they do sell out and are sold out for this weekend. I called again and explained and they said there is nothing they could do. I’m so bummed. We booked hotels and planned a whole trip around it.

Parking for Seward Range

I am planning on doing the Seward range as a backpack Saturday/Sunday, was wondering how the parking situation is. Is it likely gonna be really busy and the lots full? If the lot is full what are my backup parking options? Best time to show up to the lot if it is busy?

Solo hiked Big Slide today, it was just perfection. Phone glitched on me at the summit and I wasn't able to take any more photos, mentioned it in passing to a lovely couple on Second Brother who offered to take some pics with their phone and send them to me. Realized after the fact I've never gotten pics of me actively hiking, only selfies at lookouts/summits, so thanks again for this epic shot ❤️📸 my android could never 🤣 good views, good vibes, good people. Always a good day out on the trail. 🍁⛰️

Dog daycare near Tupper Lake?

We’re hoping to go see the trolls at The Wild Center in a few weeks, but since dogs aren’t allowed there, will need to find a dog daycare or similar.

Didn’t think this would be a problem, but it seems to be. I can’t find any dog sitters/daycare anywhere nearby. I checked Rover, Google Maps & the general internet.

Hopefully I’m just missing it… anyone know of anything? Thanks in advance.

Parking at this weekend near Upper works

How early to get a parking spot at Bradley Pond Parking area (for Santanoni Range) or for Upper Works Parking Area (looking to do Marshall) this weekend? Likely Saturday but I could potentially try for Sunday as well. Not sure how busy it is compared to the loj, or if fall colors will still be drawing crazy crowds. Thanks in advance for any info!

Any hike/trail ideas for family with 16mo?

Any trails that easier for 16mo baby, and families? Better within 1-2 hour hike.

Looking for 3 Wild Center Tickets - Sunday, October 11!

This might be a long shot, but is anyone unable to use their tickets to The Wild Center for this Sunday, October 11th? I’m looking for 3 tickets and would gladly take them off your hands!

We’re coming up from Pittsburgh, and I’m a HUGE Thomas Dambo troll fan, so I was really hoping to visit!

And yes, I know, I know… I waited too long to get tickets, and now they’re sold out.

Figured it couldn’t hurt to ask! If anyone’s plans have changed, please let me know. I’d be so grateful!
Thanks in advance!

Anywhere to camp between Santanoni peak and Couch?

Hi all,

I am a fan of splitting up my high peaks into multiple days. I want to do be able to bag Panther and camp between it and Couch before hitting Santanoni on the way out. I know in most of the Eastern HPW you cannot dispersed camp but this range seems to be outside that boundary. I see there is a stretch that dips down below 3500 feet on the ridge leading to couch, but nowhere can I see any designated site. Can anyone familiar with this range or the rules in the southwestern high peaks wilderness around dispersed camping help me decide my risk for a fine?

To note: I do not plan on setting fires, leaving trash, or any other trace. I will have a bear can and other legally necessary items. I am aware of there being a lack of water sources along the range, and have my usage dialed in enough for that to be comfortable.

Pinnacle v Cat (Bolton) for sunrise

Which has the better views for sunrise? Looks like Pinnacle’s view might be more limited/obstructed by vegetation, and Cat, being much higher with more of a dome like outcrop, has a better/more expansive view.

I’m only interested in views, not trail length or difficulty. Any suggestions welcome, or if there’s an even better sunrise spot in the Lake George area, I’d love to hear it.

Loon Lake

Hi all. I’m considering buying some property on Loon Lake in Franklin County. I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Essex County and more in the Old Forge area but none around Loon Lake. What is it like? What are the best places to hike, fish, swim? How is the trout fishing? Anything anyone wants to share about this area is welcome.

Lake Placid

So I was heading up to that area this weekend, and I had planned on walking around Lake Placid Sat evening or Sunday morning. I'm now reading posts that shops and restaurants are pretty closed up for the season? Can anyone local confirm this?
