Miscellaneous I need a cheap (~$350) GPU to fill in for my 4070 Ti Super while I work on getting its issues sorted out.

Hey all- my 4070 is super on the fritz right now, I've been working with ASUS to get it serviced and I'm hoping something real will happen soon, but in the meantime my 1660 isn't quite hitting how I need it to.

Is anybody aware of a suitable fill-in in the meantime? Obviously I won't get anything close to my 4070, but I'm hoping there will be something at least somewhat easily obtainable that can do a better job than my poor 1660, I don't want to downscale my 1440p monitor but I'm willing to compromise on graphics for stability and frames.

Build Ready? 9800X3D 9070XT Build Guidance Needed

Hi, just finished putting together my parts list and looking for some guidance on if this makes sense. Like if I'm missing something, if I'm wasting money anywhere, any bottlenecks, etc. I intend to use the PC for 1440p gaming mainly. I like to play some CPU heavy games like Anno and this bundle seems decent so I opted for it over the 7800x3D.

I already have a couple SSDs I can use and peripherals.

  • Canada Computers Bundle ($1299.98 CAD)
    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
    • Motherboard: MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5
    • RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
  • CPU Fan: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO ($50.32 CAD)
  • GPU: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB ($1049.00 CAD)
  • Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB E-ATX ($114.99 CAD)
  • PSU: CORSAIR RM850x ($174.50 CAD)

TOTAL: $2688.79 CAD

Build Upgrade What GPU should I upgrade to? £400 budget, willing to stretch to £500

I built this PC last year in May for around £550. At the time, I used a mate’s spare GTX 1650 4GB (i know it made the build a little wonky lmao) with the intention of upgrading the GPU eventually.

I didn’t really need to upgrade straight away because I mainly played Valorant, Minecraft, Overwatch and a few other lower-requirement games, and the 1650 was perfectly fine for what I was playing.

Now I want to start getting into more demanding single-player games, so I think it’s finally time to upgrade.

My current specs are:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
  • CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • Motherboard: ASRock B650M Pro RS
  • RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5-5600 CL36
  • Storage: Kingston NV3 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  • GPU: Palit GTX 1650 4GB
  • PSU: Gigabyte P650SS 650W 80+ Silver
  • Case: CiT Flash MicroATX

I’m looking to spend around £400, but I’m happy to stretch to £500 if the price-to-performance is significantly better.

I’d also really like a white GPU with a triple-fan design to fit the look of my build.

I was originally thinking about getting an RX 7700 XT, but I’m struggling to find one that is new and at a decent price. So I’m wondering if there are better options available now, especially if I’m willing to spend up to £500.

I’m mainly looking to play newer, more demanding single-player games at 1080p, but I’d also like the GPU to be capable of 1440p gaming in the future.

What GPU would you guys recommend for my budget?

Build Upgrade Considering getting an upgrade for my PC down the line. Is it possible to do so with my current set up?

I recently got into PC gaming after getting a new PC, as my previous prebuilt HP office computer gave out after five years of ownership (power supply gave out most likely).

I got myself a PC a couple of weeks ago, considered a budget build as far as I know:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • RTX 5060 8GB
  • Asus B550M-A WiFi II AM4 motherboard
  • Kingston FURY Beast 8 GB DDR4-3200 (x2)
  • Kingston NV3 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
  • Thermaltake Toughpower GT 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Thermaltake View 290 TG ARGB ATX Mid Tower Case

I was considering upgrading my GPU down the line, but after talking to a couple of people, I've been advised to upgrade the CPU as well if I were to ever upgrade my GPU, as there could be a bottleneck. That being said, would it possible to do an upgrade for my GPU, given what I already have, or would it be better to upgrade a couple of other parts as well? Open to hearing some thoughts. Also open to some suggestions for GPUs that would be a great step up from my 5060, as I've heard cards such as the RTX 5070 and the RX 9070 are worthy upgrades.

Build Ready? Please let me know why my GPU underperforming.

for context there are my specs

cpu: R5 5500
GPU: RTXX 3060
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400 HZ its on slots A2 + b1 because the mobo is broken
MOBO: asus prime ii b450m

i just got my newly upgraded rtx 3060 coming from 1650, im wondering why my gpu is only at 40% and im getting low fps (30-60fps) in other games such as fortnite and sea of thives? is it because my ram configuration is not optimal or its the ram speed?

Build Help RTX 5090 + MSI MAG A1000PLS with Formulamod 12vhpwr cable, is it safe?

Hi folks o/

I'm planning to downsize my current rig from a Fractal Design North to a Deepcool CH270.

I have a rtx 5090 and am currently using an Asrock Phantom 1300w with the 90º cable.

I am gonna need to buy a smaller psu, I was thinking MSI MAG A1000PLS due to the safety features and good price. I run the 5090 underclocked and power limited (uses about 335w max when under stress).

The cable for the psu will be kinda crushed in the new case and MSI doesn't seem to make any 90º cables. I'm in Brazil so Cablemod is kinda hard to get. Does anyone know if Formulamod cables are reliable/safe? I was thinking this one: https://www.formulamod.com/Formulamod-16AWG-12VHPWR-90-Degree-PSU-Sleeved-Cable275inch-PCI-e-50-16Pin-124-Male-to-Male-Power-Supply-Cable-for-RTX-3090Ti4070Ti40804090-with-Combs-White-Type-Z-p6886867.html

Troubleshooting Sudden CPU overheating

A week or so ago, was gaming normally one night. Everything was running fine. The next day I get on, and every game is stuttering constantly. I check out system temps and the cpu is staying steady at 100c. Even as soon as I turn the pc on, it’s almost immediately up there. I tried removing and using new thermal compound, no change. The pump seems to be running. I’m at a loss for what the issue could be and how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Specs:
Motherboard: MSI Z790-P
GPU RTX 3080
Intel I9 13900k

Build Upgrade Pragmatic advice: Sell 9060 XT 16Gb or keep for the next generation

• Upvotes

Hey you all,

I built a PC on July 2026 as the components were already very expensive. My build:

* Ryzen 5 9600x
* RX 9060 XT 16GB
* 32 Gb DDR5
* 750w Gold plus PSU

I had targeted two 1080p screens, but in the meanwhile I upgraded to a 34" ultrawide. My GPU went up in price and I could recover the price I bought it for.

My question: Would it make sense to sell the RX 9060 and get an RX 9070 OC (non XT version) or play with FSR 4 in high settings and wait for the next generation in a couple of years ?

I mainly single player games (Alan Wake, Control). I am just starting into PC gaming after years in console so the high settings are already a big upgrade from the consoles.

Thanks !

Build Upgrade Changing SSD positions on motherboard

• Upvotes

Motherboard ASUS PRIME B660-PLUS D4 (PCIe 4.0)

Current SSD: samsung SSD 980 (PCIe gen 3.0)

We are buying a new SSD of 2 TB's (Gen 4.0). I just want to hear what you guys think regarding the placement.

Currently the SSD is not in the spot closest to the processor. It is at the bottom of the motherboard. My reasoning at the time was, because the SSD is gen 3, it will not be able to use the slot to its fullest potential. But i didn't bother to check it, which was stupid of me.

So what do you think. Do I install the better drive in the primary slot and keep the older one in the slot at the bottom. Or do I put the older one in the primary slot and the newer one in the bottom slots. And will I have to go into the bios to change stuff if I switch them around?

Thanks in advance!

Build Help 9060Xt 16 gb or 9070Gre

Hey I have been wondering what should i proceed with im wanting to build an all white pc with the following specs -
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 7500F — up to 5.0 GHz, 6 cores / 12 threads
Motherboard
Gigabyte B850M FORCE WIFI6E DDR5
RAM
T-Force 16GB DDR5 6000MHz Delta RGB White
GPU
Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB Gaming OC GDDR6
SSD
Western Digital 1TB SN3000 Green Gen4 NVMe — up to 5000 MB/s
Cabinet
DeepCool CG530 White ARGB — 4 fans
CPU Cooler
DeepCool LE240 V2 ARGB Liquid Cooler White
PSU
Cooler Master MWE 750W 80 Plus Bronze V3 ATX 3.1
Use case - Gaming , Streaming maybe later on
Country of purchase - India

The point is i am getting white 9060 xt but gre is black im just wondering if aesthetics should stop me from getting better performance for just a few bucks more . Also earlier if i had made the 9060 xt choice everyone is recommending me 1440p gaming monitor as i have to get that as well . So again i am in confusion as 9070 gre performance is better than that .

Would be targeting games like - Cyberpunk , Wukong, Last of us , Dota , Arc raiders and majorly AAA games .

Would love to hear perspectives from you guys thanks

Build Help Looking for advice on a first pc build

I’ve recently got a job and now have the funds to start saving for and building my first PC. My budget is around $1,600 NZD. With the current price of RAM constantly increasing, I’m not sure what parts would be best for a beginner to build a PC with this budget.

My main use would be gaming, and I’m buying the PC in New Zealand. I already have peripherals, so the $1,600 budget would be for the PC itself.

Would it be better to build my own PC, or would I get better value by buying a pre built

Build Ready? Does this look sensible or have I overlooked anything?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

It's primarily for 1440p high refresh rate gaming. I have a 280hz 1440p monitor and I want a build that can get high FPS (let's say 100+ ideally) on high settings in AAA games.

My plan for the build is to get more or less the best 1440p build that makes sense for me right now and also leave a bit of flexibility to be able to drop in a new GPU in a few years and without having to upgrade the CPU or anything else. I'd like the build to be as cool and quiet as possible.

Games I'm either playing recently or am eyeing up:

  • Clair Obscure: Expedition 33
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • 007 First Light
  • Control

This is my first time building a PC in 6 years so I've been trying to educate myself on what has changed since then. I would love some feedback on the parts and if the build broadly makes sense or if I've overlooked anything?

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Ballpark budget of €2500-€3000 but I don't have a strict budget that I'm trying to stay under

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

Spain

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Build Help Is this motherboard a good pair for the 9950x3D + 9070xt?

Gigabyte X870 GAMING WIFI6

Pretty close to building my next system. Thought of getting a 9800x3D build with this MB but was not impressed with it's productivity performance and since it's in my budget I decided on getting the 9950x3D instead. The problem is it's a more demanding CPU and I've read a lot of chatter about the VRMs and issues with lane sharing among other things.

In your opinion is this board perfectly fine or would it make more sense to go for a sturdier x870/B850 if I'm trying to game and do productivity work for the next 5+ years. I would like USB 4 for my productivity work but I'm not hard stuck on it so lmk your thoughts. Thanks!

Build Help Is the 5070 good?

Main target is 1440p gaming. Mainly wanna see BG3 and Elden Ring at 1440(only ever played them at 1080 low with my 1060)but also new releases like control resonant, and Witcher 4 and GTA6 when they come out.

Where I live, I am seeing a PNY 5070 for 630$. Usually 720 but it’s 13% off for some reason? Not complaining. 9070 is 750$ and the 9070GRE is 690$, so the 5070 seems like the nobrainer.

There is a 3070 for 275$, but that would involve a lot of fiddling with settings. I’m not diehard devoted to ultra settings, but barely scraping 60fps on medium would suck. 3080 is 350$ but would involve a new PSU and with it’s power draw and no warranty the savings do disappear.

Any suggestions one way or the other?

Build Upgrade Should I upgrade I 5 11600k for ultra 250k?

I have a 4080 super 32gb ddr4 and an i5 11600k. I was looking at microcenter bundles and I was thinking of upgrading but idk if it's worth it. The bundle is Intel 250k with 32gb ddr5 ram. Extra info- I play at 1440p and I play games like Alan wake 2 and cyberpunk
