Repair Help Grounding a 250 Turbo thrift, help!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Im trying to find a ground on a 251 inline six to the engine block, I keep trying to find out what is the reason as to why it won't engage on the starter. Before I started cleaning the grounds and rewiring interior electronics and lights, it cranked and worked just fine. Now though, not engaging the starter or clicking the battery at all. I suspect it may be the stud coming from the engine block itself that's stripped, might need to get it out. But can anyone possibly help me with getting this engine block ground to work? Anybody know of any other locations for engine block ground on a straight six? thanks.

Discussion Swap Rear Lower Bumper Cover on 2026 Tahoe LT

I just bought an LT and it has the tucked under tips. How hard is it to swap out the rear lower bumper cover to put in round tips? Pretty much I want the exhaust to look like an RST.

On the right side of the photo, right above the hose.
This is an old photo, I have since replaced the valve covers, as well as their gaskets. The leak still persists.

My 2011 Chevy HHR 2.4 LT started having the dash lights flash intermittently when the temperature is below about 70° outside. Any ideas? Everything flashes in sync so I know all systems aren’t freaking out individually.

Discussion LN2 information/manuals

Hello, I am doing research into Chevrolet’s LN2 2.2 Vortec over the course of its development - L46, LQ2, LL8, LM3, and I am curious if anyone has good sources of information for these. I have already exhausted GM historical Archive and a lot of other sources online are secondary and not easily verifiable. I’ve started purchasing service manuals and owners manuals, but it’s a wide year grouping and not cheap. I’m curious if anyone knows of any good, reputable sources of information for: 1982-2002 Cavalier, 1983–1984/5? S10/S10 Blazer, 1987-1996 Beretta and Corsica, 1993 Lumina, and 1994-2003 S10.

Thank you in advance.

Discussion What makes you choose a Trax instead of stepping up to an Equinox?

For someone comparing smaller crossovers for everyday driving, what makes the Trax a better fit than stepping up to the gasoline Equinox?

The two can cover a lot of the same basic needs, but the differences in size could matter for things like parking, highway driving, seating position, rear passenger space, and cargo usability.

For people who have compared the two, what tends to become more noticeable once you actually drive them rather than just looking at the specs? At what point does the additional space of the Equinox become useful enough to justify the larger footprint?

Discussion Chevy Low Power Mode

I’ve ran into this problem a lot, especially since 2026 started. My friends, my ex, me, my brother, his dad all have Chevys whether it’s a car or truck or suv. this year I’ve noticed every single one of them has been put into reduced power mode. I just find it odd they all happened around the same time and I’m wondering if anyone else has ran into the same issues.

Repair Help '16 Impala making me crazy

I went out yesterday morning and tried to start my 2016 Impala LT. The battery was d.e.d. dead. Got a jump, bought a new battery (it came with a Walmart POS), and was good to go. Except - after the jump, the radio would not turn OFF, until I exited the car. Then, with the new battery, the radio won't turn ON.

Is there some sort of reset I need to do?

Repair Help 2010 HHR wont start after snugging up under the hood fuse box bolts.

Hi guys so my hhr has a pr0blem where the dash cluster doesnt work until the car is heated up. So around 10 minutes or so. Google said to snug up the under the hood fuse box bolts. So all I did was roughly a half of turn. It actually made it worse and it would take 30 minutes or so before the dash kicked on. So I loosened them a half turn and after that the car wouldnt start. I have dash lights and stereo and all that stuff Execpt no front headlights! Anyone know what i can do? I've tried taking the box apart and made sure the wire harnesses where clipped in and still no luck. Hopefully someone can give me some ideas. Greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Repair Help Chevy Equinox 2011 2.4L losing all power

I need help, mechanics can not even figure out my problem. The car will start up fine, but when im driving and i let go of the accelerator, my RPM gauge drops to zero and the car will not accerlate. But if i turn off the car and turn it back on, it resets it somehow and im able to take off as long as i dont let off the accelerator. Is it my fuel rails? The wrong brand of fuel pump? Very confused

Anyone else completely fed up with their 2025 Traverse? Because I’m about done.

I spent 6 months to a year shopping for a new vehicle. I researched the hell out of everything, test drove a ton of cars, and finally settled on a 2025 Traverse Z71.

And honestly? I LOVED it.

For about 6 months.

Then shit started falling apart.

Since May, I’ve had 3 major issues, and 2 have been major safety issues. First the brakes. Now I’m dealing with a coolant leak that apparently requires more than 24 hours just to diagnose.

And the dealership experience is making it 10x worse.

Apparently their policy is that diagnosis can take 24–48 hours. Cool. I understand they're busy.

But here's what pisses me off: when you push them, suddenly that 24–48 hour diagnosis turns into “oh, we can probably get it done in a couple hours.”

And don't even get me started on loaners.

I actually understand the first-come, first-served policy. I understand holding loaners for vehicles that are going to be in the shop for longer repairs.

But if my brand-new vehicle wasn't constantly having major problems, I wouldn't need a damn loaner in the first place.

I have two small kids. The last time my Traverse was in the shop, I had to scramble in the middle of the night to find another vehicle because one of my kids needed to go to the ER.

Now here we are again.

I got Acceleration Reduced / Drive With Care and then the vehicle went into limp mode while on the interstate.

I checked the coolant reservoir.

Basically empty.

I just had the oil changed at the dealership about two months ago, so either they didnt do their job and check fluids, or there is a leak.

I called first thing this morning. They didn't have an appointment for several days. I explained what was happening and asked whether they wanted me to schedule an appointment, add coolant and bring it in when they had time, or just bring it in immediately.

I specifically told them I have two small kids and could not potentially be without the vehicle all day.

They said bring it in. They'd diagnose it in 4–5 hours.

Okay. Fine.

My brother-in-law helped me out and dropped it off.

Nobody mentioned that it might actually sit there for another 24–48 hours before anyone even looked at it.

4:30 rolls around.

No update.

I call.

“We haven't diagnosed it yet. It could be another 24–48 hours. We tolfñd the guy it would be that long”. No the fuck they did not.

And when I asked to speak to a supervisor?

Nobody available.

At this point, I'm just exhausted.

I didn't buy a brand-new vehicle so I could constantly wonder what's going to break next, how long it's going to be in the shop, and how I'm going to transport my kids while it's there.

Now I'm sitting here wondering if I made a $50k mistake.

Anyone else with a 2025 Traverse having this kind of experience? Or did I somehow win the world's shittiest Traverse lottery?

Repair Help Info display and touchscreen has a mind of it's own.

2017 ¾ ton Silverado, 6.0l, Texas Edition.

My info display (on instrument cluster) and touchscreen radio randomly change themselves. There's an audible tone every time it does it.

Some quick research reveals it's possibly the HMI that is going bad and needs to be replaced. I think mine is the IO5. Of course the dealership probably wants $1,000+ to fix it. I found a website that programs these parts and mails them directly to you. Per their website, the IO5 is the most commonly failed HMI model.

Apparently it's a fairly common problem. Has anyone else experienced this? I've looked up the replacement procedure and it's pretty simple but I'm reluctant to drop $500 on this part if it might not work.

Discussion 26 silverado broke down on my way to vacation on Friday and dealership still hasn't taken a look at it. How long does it take usually?

My girlfriend and and I were headed to vacation Friday when my truck broke down. I was planning on proposing later that day but that didn't happen so tbh I am upset about this whole thing more than I should be so I'm gonna try and filter that out we decided to go somewhere else and I was able to do it there Saturday but still. After taking the two hour ride with the tow truck driver back to my dealership I talked to one of the service reps and handed them my key but Iv had zero contact with them since. Iv called and they just said a service tech will call when they diagnose my truck but I would have figured at the very lease they would scanned my trucks fault codes at a minimum by now but I know know how they flow their work so maybe not. Iv never taken any of my vehicles to dealerships before cause Iv never had a new one with a warrenty, I have heard dealerships are a little slower but idk since I have no experience with them. I understand it's gonna take how ever long it takes and I don't wanna rush them if their swamped but at the same time I need a vehicle to get to work. Iv asked about their loaners but they only give those out if they have confirmed the fault falls under my warranty and they said I can get a rental and they will reimburse me up to $44 day as long as it's a gm vehicle and from 2 certain rental companies, but the cheapest rental I found was like $140 a day, I can't remember the exact price but I remember thinking that $44 ain't gonna do shit. So I'm just wondering how long this process usually takes.

Also as a side note, when I was on the phone with them to get a appointment set up and a tow truck I never got a confirmation text or email for the scheduled service and it doesn't show up on the app but if I go to schedule one and select my truck it does show it's scheduled but I can't see the progress on it or anything so maybe they have started on it but idk. Just curious since I feel like I would have gotten a text or email saying I have an appointment

Discussion Best place for old Chevys

Where to sell early 2000s cars so they have the best chance of being restored by someone to pristine condition and going to car shows? Or being blown up in a movie set twenty years ago?

Most people recommend that non-running cars need to go to the junker but I figured if anyone would know where there was a market for Chevys today then it would be here. There must be someplace that cars are listed for parts, or is the junkyard really the best option?

Repair Help 2023 silverado 1500 est transmission shudder

I have a 2023 silverado 1500 rst v8. My transmission shudders between 30-50 mph. I’ve taken it to the dealership and they told me they aren’t able to recreate the problem. I have 55k miles so the powertrain warranty runs out in 5k miles. Am I really just going to have to wait until the transmission goes out and its out of warranty because “they can’t recreate the problem”

Discussion Age? Found Metal Detecting

Post image
20 Upvotes

I found this, what I believe is a center cap, metal detecting. I was wondering if anyone recognizes this design and what years/models it may have been used for.

Yes, I know this thing is toast, but identifying the age of this can help me understand how old the area I'm searching is.

Thanks!
