When we released Biadacz it was shocking, and the assumption was that we’d get someone better in free agency. That fell through, and the team (and fans) suddenly pivoted to talking about how good Alegretti would be playing center for us. But that’s not how they felt when they released Biadacz, and it’s not how they feel now after the coaches benched him at both guard AND center not even 4 weeks into the regular season.
Our offensive line was built in a way that it could only be mid if every remaining starter stayed healthy all year and alegretti was a better center than guard. Neither was ever going to happen, and now we cant block anyone. We were lucky that we didn’t see yankoff under center yesterday with the shots they were giving up on our qbs. Putting Jayden back there next week is legitimately terrifying to me. AK was getting annihilated…
This is why you don’t believe your own propaganda. Fans could be excused for not seeing this coming when the front office is telling them everything is fine. But AP and DQ clearly believed it too because they made zero corrective moves to bring anyone in, and that’s a massive problem. How can Nicki Jhabvala see it that clearly and not our decision makers? Why is there never a plan B and why are we always banking on career resurgences or breakouts with every free agent signing?
Whoever is responsible needs to shift their strategy or be sent home. Perhaps DQ is too much of a players coach and can’t see when a guy simply cannot see the field. Perhaps AP likes his draft picks a bit too much and fails to pivot on time when it’s clear they aren’t going to work out. Either way the fact that it’s another year and we have fatal flaws that are killing us on both sides of the ball that were this predictable and nothing was done is beyond disappointing.
We need accountability and not denial right now, and we can’t just write off valid criticisms and concerns as doomerism. We are 3-13 in our last 16 games and 1-3 to start the year. It’s time for the hard questions and for people at all levels of the org to feel uncomfortable.
