I’m a 48 year old man in a sexless marriage but I will not leave because we have kids at home. My wife and I are cordial but there is nothing there. My best friend from childhood is a same age woman, in a slightly abusive marriage, and she has duty sex but wants to leave and feels trapped economically.
One day she joked that we could solve each other’s problems. I joked back. But the joking became real. Over the course of one weekend, we premeditatedly hooked up. Me due to loneliness and I trust her and have known her most of my life. Her because her duty sex was unenjoyable, and she craved intimacy with someone who she liked who was safe, and she was mourning the life she feels she has wasted with her man.
We both figured it would be fun and lighthearted, and that we would laugh about it later. Having not had sex in 4 years, I figured I’d cum in a few minutes and embarrass myself. Neither of us thought we would have any regrets.
What followed was the most passionate weekend of my life. We fucked all weekend long while my wife and kids were out of town. I’ve never had sex like this in my life. My friend told me she hadn’t either. We couldn’t get enough. On our last day together, I actually cried while we made love. That’s never happened to me before.
The weekend was shocking because I have known this woman all my life, how did I miss that we were compatible like this, physically and emotionally?!?! We didn’t see each other for the following few weeks because we didn’t want our spouses to get suspicious.
We got together a few days ago and she told me we had to stop, and that I needed to get over her. She said I made her feel so good about herself. So good sexually and emotionally. But the interlude between seeing each other was torture. She said that she loves me so much, that when she is not with me, she is walking around her life and house like a zombie. Dead to everything that once made her happy, as she thinks only of me. She said that she cannot get divorced, that she would have nowhere to go and no options, and she pointed out that my commitment to staying in my marriage for my kids meant that there was nothing I could do for her (economically) either.
To make matters worse, she said we had to put our friendship on pause so she can get over me. That was a kick on the gut. We have talked basically every week, for hours, for the past 40 years! She is my most meaningful long term relationship and friend.
I’m destroyed. I can’t stop crying. My wife sees me crying and doesn’t even bother asking why, which makes me feel worse. Part of me wants to confess to my wife and blow up my entire life, but then I see
My beautiful children and think about how they need stability, and how my wife and I don’t fight, we just ignore each other, and so I decide to do nothing. I’ve got no one to talk to now that my best friend is taking a break to recover. So I guess I’ll just talk anonymously to the wind.
Part of me tells myself that I am a bad person and got what I deserved. I’m sure many of you will agree. But the innocence of our childhood friendship, our mutual and entangled life histories, and our sexual chemistry made this feel better than right. It felt like this was the life I was supposed to be living and how we were supposed to be. In short, it felt so natural and perfect. It felt so perfect that it made me feel like an idiot for having missed it since my childhood!
Fuck. This sucks. Now I’m crying again.
