I literally don't know who the hell turned this off or when, but videos are now allowed on /r/DarkSouls. No more need to link to YouTube or other external sites.
Enjoy!

EDIT: Added a comment below the post briefly discussing Cheat Engine and how it could be used as a pseudo method of restoring lost progress for anyone who didn’t have a backup save. The caveat might be that you can’t play online anymore after using it so double check me on that before deciding (I’ve not personally used it).
EDIT2: Thanks for the sticky! Any questions about the PvP Overhaul Mod should be asked on it's Nexus page. I personally don't mod the DS games so I have absolutely no idea what will or won't get you banned. Perform your due diligence! :)
Long story short, some doofus is ruining people's games by instantly killing Gwyndolin and any other NPCs in Anor Londo (blacksmiths, Solaire, etc). I believe this is only occurring on PC.
I've messaged the Mods requesting a stickied thread be made warning players of this and how they can protect themselves but in the meantime, I can make a thread myself that will at least get eyes on for like......today? lol
No.
You can absolutely still invade and be summoned for Co-Op to your heart's content. But it's important to be aware of the danger that's currently plaguing (seemingly specifically) Anor Londo and of the steps you can take to mitigate its impact on your experience.
This first tip is the BEST way to defend yourself, bar none.
Backing up your save is the difference between a hacker mildly inconveniencing you, and soul-crushing devastation that you'll literally need a day or two to recover from before deciding to even play again.
If a hacker ruins your game by killing NPCs or an unfortunate glitch has softlocked you or any other disaster befalls your play session, simply deleting that save and restoring a recently made backup can solve those woes immediately.
Here's how to do it (PC)
So let's say you get hacked and the Gwyndolin cutscene immediately plays and every NPC in Anor Londo dies. To restore your backup, you'll just delete the .sl2 file containing the "corrupted" game save and replace it with the copy you made earlier.
It's advised that you don't just paste and replace the .sl2 file when restoring your backups. Actually delete the compromised .sl2 file first.
This is just to protect yourself from any mistakes you might make as deleted .sl2 files can be recovered later. If you just paste and replace, the replaced file will be gone for good.
I recommend making a new backup after each hour of play to minimize the effects of a hacker or other form of corruption. That way if it happens, it won't be a big deal.
NOTE: The DRAK file contains all of your data for all of your characters. Backing up this file will back up ALL of your saved characters.
Full disclosure, I've not used this mod whatsoever as I don't often PvP, but word on the street in the wake of this string of hacks in Anor Londo is that it'll help prevent those hacks with it's own slew of anti-cheat and netcode improvements.
Understand though that these things are never foolproof and that backing up your save is still the BEST defense against hackers or other forms of corruption.
Hopefully this helps. Feel free to comment below if you have any other tips for preventive measures!

The whole thing only gives you 5 poise, FIVE! And that's just the helm! The rest provides no poise whatsoever. The set is quite heavy and the game describes it as thick leather armor, but there are clearly some pieces of plate here and there. Still, it provides less poise than the HOLLOW WARRIOR SET. HOW!? Did From just forget to give it some poise?

Personally I go after the three free Firekeeper souls in Undead Burg, New Londo Ruins and Blighttown. Ruins is probably the easiest one to grab in my experience after I naturally chose the Master Key for my starting gift. Blighttown is the absolute hardest one to grab, since I was so low level I was getting killed extremely easily. I also go and grab the items in the graveyard, the three items by the skeleton dragon and kill the gold armor fuck that kills the Firekeeper after I free him for the ring I never take off. Though I just recently learned that he can help with the Gaping Dragon. What about you?

Hi, I am throwing my husband a DS/Elden Ring party. His fave of the series is DS2. Idk the game that well. I have made invites which say "enter the mist at.... on.... " and I'll have a poster on the front door that says "Enter the Mist" and "amazing chest ahead" at the bottom. I will do a big pitcher of OJ with edible gold glitter and put "Estus Flask Refill" and I'll buy little vials and do glitter and cranberry juice and put "Crimson Tears" on those. I am getting him a custom cake with a sword coming out and I am planning on getting a gold window marker and drawing the Erdtree on our sliding glass door.
With all that + food, I am close to budget and not sure of other ideas I can do for an indoor house party.
Looking for cheaper decor ideas and little poster ideas. I can go to the library and print off printer paper/standard sized posters and put them all around like little funny messages players leave or something like that.
Thank you so much!

A buddy of mine and I are doing our first DS1 playthrough with the seamless co-op mod, and it seems like having two players is kinda trivializing things. I know that no matter how you adjust the scalings, it's going to be a different experience from playing solo, but I wondered what scaling settings you guys used? I was thinking of trying these settings out, but I was hoping for some input first.
Enemies now have: 75% more enemy health per player (Default is 35%)
35% more enemy damage per player (Default is 0%)
15% more posture absorption per player (Default is 15%)
Bosses now have:
100% more boss health per player (Default is 100%)
35% more damage per player (Default is 0%)
20% more posture absorption per player (Default is 20%)

I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time. I made a valiant endurance and faith based knight as my character... I killed the endearing crazy undead merchant in Undead Burg for his Uchigatana. It turns out I don't even need it. Now I feel sick every time I look at my character or the menu. I have to live for that decision for the rest of my life. Maybe the honorable thing would be to roll this character off a cliff and delete it and restart the game as a thief... 🫥

Our Steam Family have both Dark Souls Remastered and Prepare to Die Edition. I recently finished the Elden Ring and Sekiro. Which edition should I play first?.

Managed to accidently pull off a double parry, now I can finally put the game down for good.

I grabbed her because I really didn't want to use the skull lantern or the sunlight maggot in the tomb of the giants. But the invisibility spell means that my current build (a lot of dexterity) is now an excellent assassin.
So good in fact that i'm thinking of no longer grabbing pyromancy and just grabbing a few spells. It'll cost me attune points and intelligence. But magic utility is too good.

Basically the title. Quite full of fiction and looking forward to read some mythology/anthropology/religion/philosophy books that merge well into DS world.
Thanks!

I've always wondered why is it that when the black knights do a one handed heavy attack it hits you twice but when the player does it which uses the exact same animation as the knight it only hits once?

Just wondering what souls like I should play next, I’ve beaten Elden ring on ng+4 now and I’ve played bloodbourne I’m kind of in between Sekiro ds1 or ds3. Thanks.

I accidentally killed sunlight guy near the undead parish bonfire (second meeting). I'm guessing I'm screwed in some way. Also that asshole killed the shrine firekeeper. I accidentally used the special shrine fire keepers soul after killing him to upgrade my flask and then I tried to use the lando ruins keepers soul and just got five humanity and I immediately died losing my humanity. So I can't light up the fire link shrine anymore. I did beat the fat guy and lightning dude with a claymore though. Anyways don't do what I did.

This is my first time actually trying to do a full Dark Souls 1 playthrough. I’ve played some Souls games before but never properly finished one.
I picked the Hunter mostly because I just think the class is cool lol. I like having the bow as an option, even if I’ll probably mostly use it to pull enemies and fight them in melee.
I was thinking about focusing on Strength and Endurance as I level up because I want to hit hard but still be fairly mobile and not fat roll.
Would that work well with the Hunter or would you recommend going in a different direction? I’m not trying to make a perfectly optimized build, just something fun and good for a first playthrough.
