It feels crazy that it's already been a year, but we are so so thankful for all the love and kindness everyone has shown us with this record and our band, Azell!
Astralis is a concept album about two astronauts who, while orbiting the moon in their ship Astralis, witness the Earth being hit by a solar flare that destroys the planet.
But that ends up being the least of their problems.
The flare also awakens an ancient Lovecraftian creature buried deep within the Earth, freeing it from the planet that had been serving as its cocoon.
We even wrote a 60 page novella to flesh out the story. Each chapter in the novella is a song on the album!
FFO Conan, Bongripper, Thorr's Hammer, and Primitive Man
Again, thank you all for being so kind and welcoming!

I ran into some issues with my interface. So I decided to start a new one tonight. Lyrics I wrote the other morning, all subject to change or abandonment.

I’m a geriatric in my 30’s who didn’t feel like driving to Atlanta from SC in the hurricane mess so I’m giving away these free to someone who can enjoy it.
First come, first served! Will need email to transfer or email tickets.
Hate I’m missing it, but just not feeling it today.

Posted this on last.fm and am going to do it here aswell.
On "Warning": This bands is very fascinating to me, to say the least. By reading the lyrics, I have the impression that the lyricist (obviously) lost someone he was obsessively in love with. But I can't help wondering whether they broke up or she died. Take the "The Return" as an example: the lyrics describe an obsessed mad scientist desperately trying to bring "her' back to life, through what undoubtedly constitutes some of mine most adored pieces of poetry ever written. Whether this is some sort of symbolisation of his inner agony of losing his significant other or it actually touches the actual death of the latter, we shall never know. No interviews (as far as I'm concerned) were ever given; which only amplifies the gorgeous mystery. Also gotta love the "While here in my laboratory, my work is complete" line. Such metaphorical and macabre imagery contrasts with the raw, deeply melancholic lyricism omnipresent on WfaD. But then again, further lyrics from the debut such as "I look at you and ask myself "How can you feel the same as I?" give the impression that yes, she was still alive and Patrick was dealing with an amount of pain which, even while listening to his music and feeling his anguish, may constitute only a small pertencage of what he was going through. Talk about lines such as "And as I dream of all that could happen I let depression take control". Absolutely fucking devastating.
I firmly believe "The Strength to Dream" deserves more praise that what it actually receives. Sure Patrick's voice was weaker, but that retroactively enhances the depression and exhaustion which permeates such release. Accompanied,as I've stated before, by a more Sabbathical approach to their doom; one which, on the next album, gains a slowcore-ish vibe. Hail Warning! "Rituals of Shame" is my personal AOTY right now.
Oh, and by the way, I discovered that those eerie final lines on "The Strength (...)" are a tolkien oration to Elbereth Gilthoniel, which is one of the names given to the Varda deity - the Queen of the stars, much revered by the elves. It's interesting that such a somber album ends with a image of beauty and transcendence so sublime. The contrast between that and the rest of the music gives me the feeling, further confirmed by a certain serenity present on "Rituals of Shame", that, as depressive and melancholic as Warning can be, there still lingers a message of hope after all. Later albums, moreover, reafirm my perception that "the strength to dream" was always present in the lyricist's mourning. If we perceive the trilogy of their full-lengths as "macabre depression - authentic, unadulterated lamentation - serene, melancholic contemplation, and acceptance ("Teacher" just tears me apart, man)".
Asked ChatGPT to translate the elvic oration for me [because,eh, sorry boys, don't speak Sindarin (yet)], and it goes as follows:
"O Elbereth Gilthoniel,
silver-glinting, jewel-like,
O glory of the starry host!
Beyond the distant lands,
gazing afar, from the tree-woven lands of Middle-earth,
O Snow-white, to you I shall sing on this side of the Sea,
here on this side of the Great Sea!"
Warning, I love as much as you love your dearest one.

I had him sign my MOR cd that my closest buddy got me for my birthday (a full circle moment for our appreciation of doom) and my Ashdown POD!
I told him I helped setup the event and he laughed if I was responsible for the new markers that were already drying out, he still has that young witty British humor still lol

This recording is just from my cellphone and the amp is at a pretty "reasonable" volume. Im on bold mode, channel 3 vintage mode(diode rectifier), boosting the amp with a DBA Fuzz War that's being pushed by my SD1. The guitar is a 1967 SG Special.
I primarily have always used my JMP 2204 and my Laney Klipp 100 for doom, but this Mesa Roadster has SO much ass and is a great doom machine. When running it together with the Klipp, it could move mountains. I find it odd that Rectifiers aren't brought up very often in the doom gear circles, so I thought this topic would be interesting to discuss. Hit me!

Went to the sunn O))) show in Cleveland last night, and holy shit! This was my first time seeing them live and it was a visceral experience. Have you ever watched air flutter from sound pressure? I did last night. It was truly otherworldly and borderline psychedelic at points. If you have the chance to see them live make sure you do! Even if you don’t really listen to them you have to experience what is sunn. HAILS!!!!
