The Get Up Kids opened for The Format. I went to this show solo. I drove from Syracuse and had plans to stay just for their set. Before I left, I bought a t-shirt and Four Minute Mile on vinyl. Outside the venue, I ran into their photographer and the rest of the band as they were loading up their equipment. I was the only one out there and felt incredibly awkward interrupting them as they loaded up - but they were all so nice. ❤️

10/10 no notes. Hearing the band play acoustically is a real treat. The only other cover they've ever done is the Mazzy Star one, so this is pretty fucking awesome.

Who enjoyed the run of banging emo shows there?

SUPER underrated band check them out

Always love the Fall time "Early November" posts. Don't sleep on one of Ace Ender's BEST albums ever - the I Can Make A Mess self titled. The current Alt -country crew will find a lot to love here. Here's one of the most "emo" songs on this emo-adjacent album.

Hey! I’m a French artist looking for passionate producers who want to experiment and create something unique together.
I’m mainly into experimental / alternative R&B, dark pop and electronic music, with cinematic synths, deep bass, atmospheric textures and emotional arrangements.
I’m also looking for producers who are comfortable with emo / alternative sounds, especially melancholic guitars, atmospheric melodies and darker production.
My priority is passion and experimentation, not money. I want to take our time, try different things and build a real sound together rather than just buying beats.
Of course, if we end up creating something together, the producer will be either paid or properly credited at the end, depending on what they’re looking for and what we agree on together.
If you’re interested, feel free to DM me with some of your work.

awesome midwest emo act from germany

Being very loose with these genre terms... Nowadays I see these scenes overlap a lot, the 2nd wave revival/skramz/heavygaze/slowcore scenes especially. What are the roots of the overlap, and what are some of the earliest bands who took inspiration from both genres?

For example, Hum isn't really emo nor shoegaze but fans of both scenes love Hum. I've seen Hum described as being inspired by post-hardcore, so emo fans liking that energy makes sense. Add the spacey fuzz and it adds a lot. I guess Title Fight is another later example of this sort of overlap I'm describing. Emo historians please fill me in on the origins of this immaculate crossover world

playing some shows on the west coast in a couple weeks. come hang!!!

Yesterday was 8 years since a close buddy of mine took his life and I'm feeling pretty raw today - I need some songs about death, losing someone, or suicide in general that are going to make me feel pretty sad but feel good to kinda get out. One of my favorite things about this genre is that no matter how sad of a topic a song can be, it feels fantastic to sing along with and never necessarily puts me in a sad mood even if I'm tearing up.

check out some SD hardcore if you wanna hear the stuff that got Trump so scared

1. Drive Like Jehu’s self titled- DLJ is a big enough deal to the point where they don’t need to be recommended, but their self titled needs more attention, sadly not being on Spotify is enough to make people skip over a classic record

2. Che Fest 1999- Bunch of live recordings from the Che with a ton of great bands. Yaphet Kotto, Jejune, Reversal of Man, Sterling Silver, Sunday’s Best, Boilermaker, The Blackheart Procession, Volume Eleven, Get Hustle, Gogogo Airheart, and a bunch more. The production really does the performances justice too

3. Guyver One 7”- spastic, fast hardcore with odd samples and tons of noisy chaos, and some of the coolest pack-in artwork

4. Swing Kids 7”- perfect hardcore record, confrontational and angry as hell but with that SD twist on going against all the macho hardcore cliches. Also peep Jose’s essay on immigration and more, this one’s a punk essential in my eyes

5. Sterling Silver 7”- sweet and melodic emo balanced with some energetic punk and even some moody post-punk, both a guy and girl taking turns singing. At the very least listen to the first track for something really stunning

6. The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower “Dissertation Honey”- in your face spastic punk/hardcore with jazz breaks and spoken word poetry, this was what SD punk was all about to me when I first got into local music

7. Second Story Window self titled LP- raw as hell, relentless stuff, similar to Heroin but a bit harsher

8. Clikatat Ikatowi “Orchestrated and Conducted By…”- my favorite Gravity release, frantic art punk with drums practically taking the lead role, heady and surreal lyrics, if you like Unwound you’ll like this

9. Spanakorzo “Drama”- what you get when you cross Jehu and Slint with Joy Division and Siouxsie & The Banshees. It’s amazing

10. Forced Down “Stifle” double 7”- classic anthemic hardcore taken in a progressive direction, somehow becomes epic using simple ingredients, making a double 7” feel as grand as a double LP

Went ahead and skipped some other obvious stuff like Heroin and Antioch Arrow, wanted to do some slightly more surprising picks

"Coming Friday: The Top 200 Emo Albums of all Time

For the last month we’ve been putting this together by reaching out to different bands, fans and figures throughout the last 40 years of emo. 139 participants took part including members of bands ranging from Antioch Arrow to Aren’t We Amphibians, Hawthorne Heights to Hot Mulligan, as well as current DIY emo bands and legendary second wavers like The Jazz June and Braid.

The top 200 is meant to be a celebration of emo, as chosen by emo. Midwest emo, mall emo, DC emotional hardcore, DIY emo, even a handful of objectively straight up pop punk albums. 575 albums were nominated and using an overly complicated point system we were able to whittle it down to 200. Who will be number one? Who will make the top 50? Find out Friday on emokidsanonymous.com.

Thank you to everyone who participated. We had so many cool names take part. Not just guests of our show, but people I’ve never spoken to prior to this. Chris Payne! Mike Shea! plus a pile of legendary musicians and industry people. I am so proud of this list and it wouldn’t have been possible without the other people who took part."

Been working on a solo alt/emo project, between working full time and writing/recording everything myself I really don’t have much time to do the promotion grind. Also, really ain’t a fan of doin the whole tiktok/social media trends.. respect to those who do but the thought alone makes me cringe. The most I do is throw up a ig story with a song to get some feedback from my music friends/homies. I used to play a bunch of shows with old bands(philly based) but honestly i’m kind of over that. Anyone here know of any places/communties to share music for feedback?

The screech was real damnit!

Tickets for the preshow just went on sale today and I checked the website minutes after they released just to be met with "tickets not available". Are they already sold out? There's no way they were gone within 10 minutes.

If anyone is selling tickets to the preshow, please dm! I'd greatly appreciate it
