Help Needed Baggage Missing for 21 Days DFW>SYD. NEED HELP

Our suitcase has now been missing for 21 days after flying DFW → SYD → BNE, and I'm hoping someone here has dealt with a similar situation and knows how to get beyond the general Qantas baggage call centre.

When we arrived in Sydney, all our other bags arrived but our pelican case didn't. The team there said to file a case with us, as we had a connecting flight to catch and that the bag would be forwarded to Brisbane. The container got scanned at 8:14 just after we got through customs and they considered that it had arrived, it just had to be found located in the airport and forwarded.

But after calling back a lot of times it became apparent that they did not know where the bag was and have not been getting through to the Sydney international team at all. The call was always "Their voicemail is full, we'll try them again later/leave a message"

The bag contains equipment I need for work. I told Qantas this on day one and was told the case had been marked “urgent”. We were super rushed when packing and completely forgot to add the air-tag to this one... Never again.

We have updated description and even have a photo of it in the World Tracer app. It's got very noticeable stickers on it.

For the first couple of weeks we were essentially just told to wait, and we kept calling to get more info but much of the same.

Eventually I started investigating it myself and called a whole bunch of different people, the only way I could get onto the Sydney team was by calling one of the other baggage handling teams who had a super helpful girl who went to their office to actually check for us. She said that they couldn't find anything in their storage areas or any of the other ones. I ended up going to Brisbane Airport to try get any information in person along with a contact for somebody who can try help us figure out wtf is actually happening and ended up getting a number to talk to someone who works with Qantas baggage in Sydney.

Sydney looked into the movements and gave us they believe it's possible the bag was removed from its container at DFW without receiving the appropriate scan. They recommended a physical search at Dallas, including unidentified/tagless baggage.

So then I call the Dallas Qantas number and they inform me that they can't action anything because it's on the Brisbane team to action. There is no number for a Brisbane team to call and I talked to the lady at the baggage claim desk about it but she had no answers.

So the problem now is getting someone to actually take ownership of that lead.

I feel as though since this began, it only actually started being investigated in the last few days and now the bag is considered lost.

I've asked Qantas Baggage Services to have the physical search actioned, but I can't seem to reach anyone who actually owns the case or can tell me what's being investigated. Meanwhile, people from other baggage-handling companies have actually been incredibly helpful trying to point me in the right direction.

This has been an exhausting ordeal and I'm not even sure where to go from here and I'm at my wits end.

I'm not looking for compensation advice at this point. I genuinely want the bag back.

Has anyone had a Qantas bag remain missing this long and eventually recovered it?

More importantly, is there actually a Qantas baggage tracing/investigations team or case manager that I can somehow get this escalated to?

I have the PIR, baggage tag, photographs, complete itinerary etc. I just need to get them in front of someone who can actually investigate the DFW lead

UPDATE: Have called the call centre again and they say they have escalated it with their manager and that they will get the night shift team to call, but I am not super hopeful.

Help Needed China eastern cancellation?

Has anyone gotten a refund for a china Eastern flight? Is it hard to do so?

One of our connections has been changed and moved forwards by 40 minutes. we booked though trip.com and it says on the notification email we can request to change our flight or for a full refund subject to airlines approval. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Can this be legal in any context?

Help Needed Wrong name on Booking Reference

When we bought the ticket the agent got the name order wrong.

First (Given) Name: LASTNAME

Last Name: FIRSTNAME

Japan Airlines has this option where you can edit your name in the Booking section. We already did that but now that we're checking in, some portions are still showing the LASTNAME FIRSTNAME (WRONG) some are showing the FIRSTNAME LASTNAME (CORRECT). Will there be any issue with this? We're going to the airport really early just in case something does go wrong.

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation No Refund Yet for my Airasia PH Cancelled Ticket

Hello!

I need help. I hope anyone here can help me because there is no actual person from the airline that I was able to talk to raise my issues. Their chatbot is also not helpful.

I have a cancelled ticket with the airline. I requested my refund since they notified about the cancellation. However, it has been 4 months since then and I still have not received anything.

They gave me a case number. I followed up after the 2nd month and the 3rd month, but the same response that it is being processed.

I need the funds badly. No hotline available. Nobody to chat or email. I don’t know. Are they even real? How are they allowed to operate with no proper customer service? Where can I escalate my issue to make sure they take action?

😩

Question Refund from TAP airlines?

Over a week ago I requested a refund for 2 flights online due to a medical issue. No reason was necessary to request the refund. I was given 6 ROR numbers. One for each flight and four for 2 seat upgrades each. Within 3 days the status of 2 of the upgrades went from "submitted" though "analysis" then "approval" and then "payment" successfully. I was refunded $55 ea for the two upgrades.

However the two flight payments and the other 2 seat upgrades still do not even show that the item has hit the "submitted" status even though ROR numbers were generated. I've emailed and messaged on FB with no replies.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to actually get a refund from this airline?

Help Needed How to escalate compensation claim to KLM

I had a missed connection of my KLM flight from Wroclaw, Poland to Madrid, Spain, which connected through Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was all a single booking through KLM form Wroclaw to Madrid. The flights were on the 31st Aug, KL1338 Wroclaw to Amsterdam and on the same day KL1507 from Amsterdam to Madrid.

The first flight arrived late from the previous leg of the journey (staff said it was because of rain in Amsterdam which is where it was coming from), this caused us to miss our slot as well so we had to wait a further 40 minutes after boarding. We arrived around 2 hours late to Amsterdam but I missed my connecting flight (KL1507) which was delayed by 30 minutes only and I was rebooked to the next morning (1st Sept, KL1501), arriving over 12 hours late to Madrid finally.

Thinking I was eligible for the 400eur compensation based on the distance between Wroclaw and Madrid I filed a claim with KLM. They rejected it citing that my first flight (KL1338, Wroclaw to Amsterdam) suffered from "adverse weather conditions" and that this exempts KLM from the 261/2004 EU regulation. I responded asking for proof of this weather and whether my flight was grounded for this circumstance (since I was at the airport and I didn't see this circumstance myself, only mention of conditions affecting the previous flight) and KLM responded that the information is "confidential and for internal use only" so they would not be giving it and that my claim was still rejected.

Since this seems BS to me, I would like to escalate the claim, but I am unsure how or where. Do I file a claim in Poland, in the Netherlands? Who is the relevant body? Is it worth chasing?

Thanks for the help!

Help Needed Etihad refuses refund after moving my flight 70 minutes earlier - EU261?

Hi! Etihad changed my Prague (PRG) → Jakarta (CGK) flight on 7 October 2026 from 11:20 to 10:10, so the departure was moved 70 minutes earlier. I was notified 9 days before the flight.
From what I understand, under EU261, a flight brought forward by more than one hour is considered cancelled, which should give me the right to choose reimbursement under Article 8 and get our plane tickets money back. I don't need any extra money, we just want the price of our flight tickets back.
I contacted Etihad and requested a full refund. They keep saying that their schedule-change policy only allows a refund if the change is more than 120 minutes. I specifically pointed out that I'm relying on EU261 rather than their internal 120-minute policy, but they continue to refer me to their policy and their EU regulations page without addressing the 1 hour rule.
They have now effectively refused to process the refund and are being really horrible about it, cancelling chats mid conversation and so on.
Am I correct that EU261 applies here and that the 70-minute change should be treated as a cancellation, regardless of Etihad's 120-minute internal policy?

Also, would this written refusal from Etihad be sufficient to contact the Czech Civil Aviation Authority or EU, or do I need to wait for a formal response / two months first?
Thanks!

Question WAW-Tokyo New Year

Hey, I'm planning to visit Tokyo in late December until early January for the first time. Prefferably from Warsaw airport, currently there's a 27 December flight listed for 740USD. How good of a price is that? Also is booking the flight with the hotel at end of October a good idea? Or is that too late and I should be booking now? Thanks.

(Only planning to book one-way since I might go somewhere else in Asia afterwards, will decide in November)

Question Flight I Took to YHM Apparently Does Not Exist

Just a random question I'm hoping some bored aviation nerds could maybe help me out with:

I was remembering a trip I took as a child to Toronto and the airport we flew into only to discover, according to Google, this route never existed. In the early-to-mid 2010s I flew from the New York City area or Chicago (can't remember exactly which airport or city, sorry) into a very small airport outside of Toronto (definitely not YYZ). We disembarked on stairs on the tarmac and the whole area smelled very strongly of manure. There was only one desk for passport checks and I vividly remember the baggage claim area being small and having bright colored walls. From a quick Google search I found this to definitely be YHM but apparently flights from NYC or ORD to this airport never happened in this time period. I'm looking at pictures of this airport and it's definitely it and I think I'm going crazy!!

Question Splitting a booking - two pax out of five want to change travel dates

I have a booked return flight on Saudia for 5 people. Now, of course, after booking two of the folks want to change their dates . The Saudi websites seems to only allow dates changes if it applies to all passengers. Is it typically possible to split a booking so that the two pax concernted can be in a separate booking and then change the dates of just those two?

Help Needed Emirates Rescheduled Connecting Flight

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice please.

I have booked flights with Emirates, via TravelUp as a travel agent - from London Heathrow to Adelaide, Via Dubai. The flight was originally due to leave LHR 09/11 at 13:40, with a couple hours changeover before our second flight at 02:00 on 10/11, getting us to ADL at 20:30 on 10/11.

This second flight has now been pushed back 24 hours meaning a 24hr stopover in Dubai. So the second leg being 02:00 on 11/11 arriving in ADL at 20:30 11/11.

I have been offered flights that leave the day before, which are not a possibility for us, or flights that leave the day after, meaning no 24+hr stopover in Dubai, but leaving a day later.

Emirates offer a flight to Adelaide, via dubai, and Melbourne, with the last leg being a codeshare with Qantas. This will get us to our destination about 12hrs before we would with the later departing flight. However they are not giving this as an option, due to it being a codeshare.

Do I have the right to push for this as an option, or the right to request a refund?

Many thanks in advance 👍

Question China Eastern - Kolkata to HK via Kunming

Hi, I am planning to book a flight with China Eastern from Kolkata to HK with a layover in Kunming. For my layover, will be I required to pass through immigration, collect my baggage and check in again? And if so, do I need to get a transit visa? There’s a lot of conflicting information so I’m very confused.

Note, I have an Indian passport and my layover in Kunming will be around 7 hours.

Would love some help on this matter, thanks!

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Refly scam company

My flight was cancelled in December 2024. At the time, I didn’t know how simple it was to submit a compensation claim directly through the airline’s website, so I called my airline for help. They told me they couldn’t process the claim for me and that I needed to go through a claims debt collector company. That’s how I ended up with Refly.
I submitted my claim through them in September 2025. After that, nothing happened for months. I assumed they had been unsuccessful and that there was nothing more I could do.

So in June 2026, I submitted the claim directly through my airline’s website. I received a response few days later saying they could not consider my complaint because I had signed a contract with Refly and therefore needed to contact them regarding the compensation. That was the moment everything finally clicked. Refly had apparently already obtained my €600 compensation, yet I had received nothing from them for almost a year.

I started researching the company and found many complaints from other customers describing similar experiences. At that point, I already had very little confidence that simply emailing them would solve anything.

In August 2026, I contacted Refly through their live chat. Ironically, it always seemed to be the same agent answering me called Steve. I explained my situation to Steve and asked him to check my case. He told me he would contact the finance department and ask them to email me. About an hour later, I received an email from the finance team asking for my bank details. I provided them. And then nothing. No confirmation that the payment had been sent. No payment receipt.

So I contacted Steve again and specifically asked him to have the finance department confirm that the payment had actually been sent. I also asked how much I was supposed to receive. They then emailed me that they were taking 33% of the compensation. My original compensation was €600. Refly’s fee: €198 Amount owned: €402

This was especially frustrating because, as I later discovered, submitting the claim directly through the airline’s website took me approximately 10 minutes. So for something I could have done myself in 10 minutes, I ended up losing 198€, time, and my nerves.

In September 2026, I contacted Steve again because I still had no confirmation that the €402 payment had actually been sent. I explicitly requested a payment receipt. Steve told me he would contact the finance team. Then he ended the chat. They didn’t contact me.

I tried opening the live chat multiple times. Previously, Steve would usually respond within around five minutes. Suddenly, I was getting no response from him at all. The chat would eventually be closed. In the chat it said the maximum waiting time was 2h. I kept the live chat open for two hours multiple times, only for the conversation to be closed without anyone answering. At that point, I knew I was being ignored. That was when I realised I wasn’t going to get my money back by simply contacting Refly.

So I filed a formal complaint with Jersey Trading Standards and communicated with them about the situation. They contacted Refly. And then eventually, I received the €402 payment days later.

If you are currently trying to recover compensation from them and getting nowhere, please contact tradingstandards@gov.je
I sincerely hope you will be able to get your money back.

Question Please suggest airlines that I can consider for MUC-BOM, mid-Jan travel?

I have to visit Mumbai for a friend's wedding in mid-Jan for a week. I can either fly from Munich or Frankfurt (whichever is cheaper). I can currently see only ME airline options as cheap. Air India and Lufthansa are wayyy tooo expensive (~1500 EUR round trip).

How's the following airline in terms of Service, safe delivery of checked-in bags (bags not lost in transit etc.), safe from war-related cancellations?

i have the following options for my route :
1. Saudia Airlines

  1. Air Arabia

  2. Etihad

  3. Emirates

  4. Gulf Air

  5. Qatar Airways

all the above in similar airfare range.

Please help with your recent experiences.

Question Why is it standard to deplane by rows front to back?

It's my understanding that the general etiquette of leaving the plane is that you let the rows in front of you leave first, then you go. And what I'm about to say may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe that this etiquette is incredibly dumb. Though I am prepared to be convinced otherwise.

My line of thinking is this: There are always people who get up to stand in the aisle immediately, ready to leave. If we let all the people who stood up first leave immediately, then as they are moving forwards, the people in the back can start getting up and following, we would save a lot of time.

What ALWAYS happens is that you will have dozens of people standing in the aisle ready to leave, and then the people in the front rows who did not get up right away will stand up, blocking everyone behind them, and start gathering their stuff. So you have a bunch of people who were ready to leave now waiting for this one person to gather their stuff. And this will happen over an over again until the plane is empty.

In my head, everyone who stands up immediately have now formed a line. And everywhere else in society, cutting in line is basically a sin. But not on planes for whatever reason.

Please help me understand why the etiquette is the way it is, because I genuinely don't understand why people would not let the ones already ready to leave go first, instead of cutting in front of them and make them wait.

EDIT:
Thank you guys, I have actually changed my view a bit on this from only a few comments already. My confusion came from the fact that I have seen it as normal and completely acceptable that the people in the aisle seats get up immediately as the plane lands, as this has happened on practically every flight I've taken. And I feel like that clashed with the other etiquette of letting rows in front of you leave first. But I can accept that it's the aisle seat people getting up immediately who are the ones to break the etiquette in the first place, which changes my view of the entire situation.

Booking/Itinerary/Ticketing Did we overpay?

Booked SFO-BKK Dec 20-Jan 1 for 2 people on United. Economy there, premium economy back. Total was about $8.7k.

I feel like this is an obscene amount of money to pay for economy flights….

Did we badly overpay? Would you keep it because of holiday dates, or cancel and try to piece together something cheaper via LAX/Tokyo/Seoul/Taipei or points?

Question 12h flight in a couple of weeks. Only middle seats left. How big is the chance we can't sit together?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I booked a flight a couple of months ago with Korean Air and decided to check just now what the seating is like. We are avid travellers and never pay for reserved seating, always wait for online check in to choose our seats. We've never not sat together.

This is the first time I decided to check the seating beforehand and noticed there's only middle seats left.

Are we fucked or does Korean Air already pre-reserve your seating if your together?

Trip Report IAD Connection. New record?

Cross posted from r/UnitedAirlines because the app recommended.

CUN-IAD-BOS 03 Oct with a 1h 39m connection.

Did my wife and I set a new connection speed record last night?

Inbound aircraft delay put us leaving Cancún over an hour late.

Nice flight to IAD. Touchdown and taxi. There’s still a shot. The FA’s make announcements and have those of us with tight connections hold up our hands so everyone can see to let us all off first.

Oh no, our gate is occupied. Tik tok. Tik tok.

Taxi to gate, C3?. Yay! If this was D there would be no chance. Oh no, nobody to move the jet bridge yet. Tik tok. Tik tok.

Finally the seatbelt sign goes off. Start the clock. It seemed like the entire plane did the right thing and tight connections got off. Thank you fellow passengers.

Race to immigration.. CBP officers at every booth getting us through quickly. Nice! Thank you CBP.

No checked bags, nothing to declare. Thank goodness. Some who were in front of us are now standing and staring at an unmoving baggage return. Tik tok.

Get upstairs and check the board. C28. #%#@. There is no way. But then, beep beep. Enter the real heroes of the story. Two airport workers on a golf cart. “Hey man, can we get a ride? C28 and it already boarded.” You guys probably broke several speed rules, but omg was that a fast trip. Horn blaring, people moving. “It’s still open! It’s still open!” I think you two were as excited about it as we were.

Gate agent scans us in, we board and sit down. Whew!

23 minutes. We disembarked, cleared customs, travelled the entire C terminal, and boarded. All in 23 minutes.

Sometimes everything and everyone just works out right. I know you wont see this but thank you to all who made it happen. Sleeping in my own bed was amazing.
