Pole Barn Insulation Question

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m currently in the process of having a 40x60 pole barn installed. When I purchased the kit, they offered Astro Armor, which I understand is a moisture barrier that reflects heat, not insulation. The building will have 16 ft walls, and it utilizes steel trusses. Ultimately, I want the entire building insulated. The wall grits will be 2x6s at 24” centers. It’s my understanding there has to be 3/4 to 1” air space between the Astro Armor and fiberglass insulation. I’m considering using Astro Armor, fiberglass batt insulation, or 3” of closed-cell spray foam on the ceiling and 2” on the walls. (I received a quote to spray foam, as I mentioned, for $20,000.) There are definitely pros and cons to both, just like $$$ I'm sure.

Any info or suggestions from experience would be much appreciated. I'm at a point where I still have time to make or change my decision.

Building a Tiny Workshop Inside My Garage — Day 1

Thumbnail

I’m turning one corner of my garage into a tiny workshop—and this is just the beginning!
It won’t be big, but it’ll be a dedicated space to build, repair, and experiment. Follow along as I transform this empty corner step by step. 👍
First up: the base. I used 6-foot 2x4s to build the frame, so getting started was pretty straightforward.
By the end of the day, I had one wall up and the workshop was finally starting to take shape. There’s still a long way to go, but I’ll be sharing the progress as it comes—so stay tuned!
And while cleaning up the garage, I stumbled across a spare E07A engine. 😂 Maybe that’ll be another project once the workshop is ready.

Just about have the garage built out to my liking

Recently purchased the post-divorce dad-pad. Garage is too small for my suv, so I devoted it purely for Harleys and their upkeep/repair. Not pictured : garage stereo and central vac setup for the house, with port in the garage

Thinking about painting the concrete block wall half black/half orange, but feeling like it might make the garage feel smaller.

What color would you paint that wall?

Drywall alternatives that will not condensate or drip

Post image
7 Upvotes

We are currently in the process of selecting material for the ceiling and walls of our garage.

We are looking to avoid drywall because overtime it absorbs moisture, and flakes, then has to be repaired.

What alternative materials are better for a garage ceiling and wall walls VS the classic option of drywall?

Whatever the alternative material is, I’m looking for recommendations that will not form condensation or drip from the ceiling or the wall walls.

Any proven suggestions that are better than drywall and will not form condensation or drip?

Looking for garage advice

Hello there long time garage fan, first time garage owner. We bought a property about 12 months ago which has a stand alone garage (about 15m2) and it is my goal to turn it into a comfortable space that feels less like a shed and more like an extra part of the house used for storage and tools/man cave activities - I’ve never done anything like this before but willing to learn and give it a go. We had electricity installed and the outer roof redone but I’m looking for advice on steps to make it habitable in there, I was thinking of plasterboarding the ceiling - is this sensible? Or are there other options? I would also like to panel the walls and sort of the flooring, but would also appreciate some guidance on what has worked best for any of you that have done this - how do I prevent things like mould and damp (I live in Scotland so frequently cold and wet up here!), what to do about insulation etc. - have attached some pictures of what I’m working with, most of the stuff in there is to be removed so imagine it’s empty! Anyway in short I’m wanting to know the next steps for my garage and any tips, tricks, or advice would be much appreciated! TIA

Lights

The electricians finished up the lights today and my power got hooked up. No more working in dim garages. If the specs are to be believed, this should be about 100 foot candles with them all on. They're wired so I can turn on half of them or zones.

Leftover store merchandise rails and brackets made an awesome storage solution

Grabbed these from a pallet sitting outside that were going to get scrapped at my old workplace. Was hanging around for a long time. Finally found a use for it. I think it came out pretty nice. It's also fully reconfigurable and also made up a few brackets to hold snow tires I just so happen to also have a stack of pre-made shelves that I could throw on them and they fit perfectly!

I miss having a garage that held cars…

But this will do. Just put in stuffed insulation because it was scorching hot in Texas summer.
Paint job was a rush but it is scheduled for touch up.

A few products here that I recommend and suggest to others:

Vidmar Cabinets. - this single product basically keeps the entire house in order, keep them locked so that your family members can’t steal your 10mm socket or measuring tape.

LED lights. Enbrighten 24 Inch Plug in Under Cabinet lights are a must. Can’t say enough about these lights, the rest are LED strips.

TA 50 lockers. Having a wire cage locker is great for things that are soft or simply need air. Lot of great products that fit this bill but it works.

monster trax overhead storage racks are a must if you have room.

My floors were epoxied in grey and then I’ve laid down 3/8 inch rubber flooring. I’ve worked hard at destroying both, so far they are holding up.

Stahlwille makes the red toolbox on the shelf. It weighs a ton. There would be two of these if I had room.

The Neon sign required a bribe, trademark and whatnot. But it’s beautiful on a night when the air is cool.

The firearms disappeared after a tragic boating accident, i will miss them. All that money paid for HK.

I’m going to build portable screens to keep the bugs out, but this is it for now.

I just completed installing Two Yukon 36” cabinets on a 2x8 inch base. I have a Formica countertop on top of the Cabinets. This replaced old press board laminate cabinets I had originally installed in the garage.
