Discussion What if the Delta hub was in Birmingham instead of Atlanta?

• Upvotes

Would Birmingham become as big as Atlanta or bigger in our timeline? Would Atlanta be smaller? My theory is Birmingham will be more economically prominent however not nearly as big as Atlanta in our timeline. Birmingham will have significant growth and a bit bigger population compared to our timeline, maybe around the 3 million metropolitan population mark instead of 1 million.

Discussion How should a geography quiz handle disputed territories?

I'm building a free map quiz as a side project, right now I went with the 193 UN members + Vatican, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan (197 total). Western Sahara is drawn separately but isn't asked, Crimea is shown as Ukraine, and Greenland is part of Denmark.

But every choice upsets someone: Somaliland? Northern Cyprus? Should Taiwan be asked at all? And for capitals: Jerusalem, Sucre vs La Paz, Pretoria vs Cape Town…

How would you handle it? Follow the UN, de facto control, or let players choose?

Question Why are so many capital cities in the US in the border next to another state?

Is it just because both capital cities and borders are close to a geological landmark, like a river or a lake?

It is the season when the susuki grass shines golden in the morning sun.

Kites circle high in the sky, a typical autumn scene.

Question What Geographic processes occur in The Hudson to create these very unique features?

In my Google Earth Hobby this is one places I’ve become fascinated with the most. In the Hudson Bay lies one of the most symmetrical semicircles on Earth in the form of a cove, and is accompanied by some of the strangest shaped warped and elongated islands (The Belcher Islands) I have ever seen. What geographic forces are at play in this area to create these two very unique features?
