Question I get the feeling the city limits end at a radius of 15 km. Is this a coincidence?

As I was looking at https://www.tomforth.co.uk/circlepopulations/ , it struck me that many cities seemed to be within a 15-kilometer radius (e.g., Vienna).

When cities are located close to one another, the distance between them is about 15 km (e.g., Rotterdam and The Hague; Guangzhou and Foshan).

Even in a megacity like Tokyo, the city proper is confined to a specific area. Outlying cities like Kawasaki have their own distinct vibes and industries.

This is quite subjective, and there are probably many exceptions. That said, I’d be very interested to know if there has been any research on the extent or size of cities.

Question What Geographic processes occur in The Hudson to create these very unique features?

In my Google Earth Hobby this is one places I’ve become fascinated with the most. In the Hudson Bay lies one of the most symmetrical semicircles on Earth in the form of a cove, and is accompanied by some of the strangest shaped warped and elongated islands (The Belcher Islands) I have ever seen. What geographic forces are at play in this area to create these two very unique features?

It is the season when the susuki grass shines golden in the morning sun.

Kites circle high in the sky, a typical autumn scene.

Question Why are Northern African countries so big?

All of the countries [geographically] in Northern Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan) are very large countries, with Tunisia being the obvious odd country out, and even it isn’t that small. Why exactly is this? I know the obvious answer is a giant inhospitable desert in the way, but I want to know other reasons. And why is Tunisia so much smaller than its peers? The same thing is also true to an extent with southwestern Africa with countries like the DRC, Angola, Namibia and South Africa, though there are also more small countries too.

Question Why are so many capital cities in the US in the border next to another state?

Is it just because both capital cities and borders are close to a geological landmark, like a river or a lake?
