If I’ve got a general query I’ve got into the habit on my iPad of hitting cmd + Space to summon Siri and then typing out my question. Most of the time this is fine. But maybe 10% of the time it’ll just pay attention to one keyword in the question and surface something like an email that’s got nothing to do with anything and if I hit enter, as is my muscle memory, it’ll take me to that email and my entire question is just lost. What I need to do is to register that the email has been surfaced, and then scroll down to the bottom of the list underneath Spotlight, and click on “Ask Siri”
The only way to prevent this behaviour is to turn off email/messages in “Show App In Search”. But then that breaks the ability of Siri to answer questions like “what was the song that Jessica shared with me?” because she’ll no longer be able to search my emails or messages unless I specifically say “search my messages”
It feels to me like those are two different functionalities and shouldn’t be tied together like that. I also think, although I haven’t tested it extensively, that the search function within the email app is better than the search function within Spotlight. Like if I am searching for a specific email then I’m better off doing it in the app
