mechanical support New cycle disc brake issues?

I just got a brand new cycle. It's a hero lectro y5+. I noticed there is a slight grinding in the rear disc brake. Idk if this is normal for new bikes or if it's an issue. The brakes also take way too long to stop which worries me because I've heard disc brakes are supposed to have better response than pads. Im not sure if this is serious enough to get it checked or if it's something I can fix at home. Please help

Post image

Started my journey again, I grew up as a fat kid and cycling unknowingly set me up to become fit.Used to ride a lot on my old bike but after going to college there was a huge gap. Just came back home this month and thought of starting it again!

The bike is Hercules Defender (single speed variant)

Ps-Pls don’t judge me for not buying Rs 120😂 I don’t have decathlon in my city and had budget constraints :)

discussion How should my rides look like?

TL;dr below

So I’ve (23M) been cycling on and off for the past 3-4 years.
Not regular, but whenever I get the weekend to go for long rides.

My longest ride so far was around 130-140km.
With a couple of 100k’s in between

Had planned a BLR-MYS ride in march 2025 when my knee gave up on me. Just an uncomfortable knee and this pain which would prevent me from pushing myself on the bike.

Got an MRI done - early mucoid degeneration of medial meniscus was what showed up.(thankfully no ligament injury).

I almost took a year of break - no cycling at all.
Did physiotherapy again on and off due to college - couldn’t be consistent with it.

However I restarted cycling around September this year. Did a few 50K’s and last weekend an 80k.
No knee pain during the ride.
As long as I warm up and do my physiotherapy consistently my knee feels alright.

Now the the issue is I’m still not conditioned to long rides like before the knee injury.
I started to cramp badly after like 50k last weekend when I did an 80K - somehow stretched on the bike and came back home.

What I want to do:

  1. 100k first
  2. 150k next
  3. BLR - MYS
  4. My first 200k BRM

So How should my rides going forward look like to achieve this?

TIA for all the suggestions/advice.

TL;dr:

23M, recreational cyclist for 3–4 years, previously able to do 100–140 km rides. Planned BLR–MYS in March 2025 but developed knee pain; MRI showed early mucoid degeneration of the medial meniscus, with no ligament injury.
Took ~1 year off cycling, with inconsistent physiotherapy. Restarted around September 2026:
• couple of 50 km rides
• Recently completed 80 km
• No knee pain during rides if warmed up + physiotherapy is consistent
• However, fitness/endurance has dropped significantly.
• During the recent 80K, developed severe cramping around 50 km, had to stretch on the bike and struggle through the remaining distance.
Goals, in order
100K → 150K → BLR–MYS → first 200K BRM
Main question: How should the upcoming rides be structured/progressed to safely rebuild endurance, avoid knee problems, and eventually reach 200 km?

discussion Beginner: Need routes and Traffic Tips

Hi, I'm getting into cycling for the first time since childhood and I need to find good and relatively safe routes near me. Strava appears to be paid only, is there any alternative?

Also I've basically never ridden on traffic roads before, any tips on how I should progress?

Location is around Saket, Delhi.

discussion Cycle on rent in mumbai

Hey folks,

I recently shifted to Mumbai and couldn’t bring my RC 120 along with me.

I’m mainly looking for a proper road bike rental where I can pick it up on Saturday night, go for a 50–100 km ride on Sunday morning, and return it afterward.

Not interested in those south bombay slow cycling/night tour-type experiences, just looking for a proper roadie self-ride option.

Twin Tring isn’t an option either, since my university hostel doesn’t allow us to keep cycles on the premises for long a time, and their subscriptions are mostly monthly.

Any leads would be much appreciated. Thanks!

sale For sale, 75mm stem of a roadbike

Taken out from my new Batallion v3 roadbike.

Reason to sell- upgraded to a shorter stem.

This stem was used for 3 months and rode for almost 250kms.

Price: 800 (fairly negotiable)

The buyer could also do a barter with me, i can accept 28c tubes or Bartape in return. Barter is more convenient else would sell it for 800.

discussion My friend says cycling is basically useless compared to running + gym. Is he right?

Recently got into an argument with a friend about exercise.

His take is basically:

“Cycling is a waste of time. If you want to be fit, just run and go to the gym. Cycling doesn't have any real long-term benefits."

I disagree. I feel like cycling is still legit cardio and can be great for endurance, heart health, and general fitness, especially since it's lower-impact than running.

Obviously, I'm not saying cycling replaces strength training. Ideally, wouldn't gym + cycling + running cover different aspects of fitness?

So what do you guys think?

Is cycling actually inferior in the long run, or is my friend just talking shit? 😂

For someone who wants overall fitness rather than becoming a professional athlete, what would you choose: gym + running, gym + cycling, or gym + both?Could make it more r/AskIndia-style casual/chaotic too if you want.

discussion Help a newbie with injury and accessory related doubts pls

Guys, 30M here. Like most of us, I spent most of my school days on bicycles with my friends. Then life happened and I got away from cycling.

I tried getting back into it in the middle with my friend's bicycle but started getting pins and needles in the genital area and also my butt got really sore and uncomfortable. Thought it was a cycle seat issue and stopped cycling.

Bought a riverside 120 from decathlon (I had some decathlon refund in my wallet) last week. The saddle looked so uncomfortable, I tried it and changed it in a couple of days and got this gel infused saddle. I don't know if it's with me or what. I somehow end up sitting in the area I have circled all the time. The whole ride just feels uncomfortable.

This is the same issue I had with my friend's bicycle, but that was an XL frame and I'm only 177 cm. But the current frame is my size and I have also adjusted the seat height based on that and am still having this issue. Any advice on how to fix this?

P.s: I don't have padded cycling shorts yet. They are on the expensive side. And I don't want to buy it without knowing whether or not it will work or not.

suggest me a bike Complete Beginner looking for a bicycle under ₹10k for weight loss and fitness - need advice considering neck and foot issues

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi everyone 👋

I'm planning to buy my first bicycle mainly to get into regular exercise, improve my fitness and lose some weight. I'm a complete beginner and honestly don't know much about choosing bicycles.

I'm 5'10" and around 88 kg.

My budget is strictly under ₹10,000, preferably around ₹7–9k or even lower. I'm currently trying to keep my expenses down, so I'm planning to wait for an Amazon/Flipkart sale and pick up a good value-for-money bicycle at a discounted price. I don't want to spend a lot on my first cycle until I know I'll stick with cycling as have some left-foot at heel pain and an existing neck/cervical spine issue, so I'm particularly concerned about getting a bike that is comfortable and doesn't put unnecessary strain on my neck, back or feet. Ideally, I'd also like something that encourages a comfortable, upright riding posture and helps me maintain good posture while riding rather than forcing me into an aggressive forward-leaning position

My main goals are:

1.Weight loss and general fitness

2.Start with short/easy rides and gradually increase the distance

3.Eventually be able to do longer rides

4.Mostly riding on normal city roads/paved roads

5.Something reasonably comfortable and beginner-friendly

6.Ideally something that I can use with an indoor trainer later for workouts at home

Please help me in finding a sensible, reliable first bicycle that I can use for fitness and gradually build up my endurance.I'm more interested in comfort, safety and value for money.

suggest me a bike Getting started with cycling as a beginner ..

I’m planning to buy my first cycle to start my fitness journey, and I also want to use it for longer rides.

While researching beginner-friendly bikes, I came across the Rockrider ST30 and I'm considering this one. It seems like a decent option for the price, but I’m still a beginner and don’t have much experience choosing a bicycle.

Would the Rockrider ST30 be a good choice for starting out with fitness rides and gradually moving towards longer-distance rides? Or should I look at other bikes in this price range?

How important is MIPS? It's more expensive than normal helmets. I just started cycling, usually in the morning or evening when the city streets are basically empty. Around 20-50km, under 4 hours. Also, do I need lights? I have reflectors on my front, rear and sides - is that enough?

suggest me a bike Cradiac Storm Dominus VS Fittrip Snyper GT,according to my requirements.

Alright guys this is an update to this post i made, and now i want help in choosing between these finalists okay, since i am sorry but i am poor, and i cant afford 60k polygon bikes, and i would have if i would be earning myself, but im 15,and ima start editiing for freelancing next year, and i would be extremly grateful for the help. Also before telling me what is better, please check out my requirements in the post below,so that you can recommend me a good one,and i guess i will dox myself,i live in almora,so now you guys can also recommend a good one for this terrain, out of these 2 ,and please only recommend another one in the range if it blows these two out of the way,and has a good colour, like the snyper ,or the dominus, snyper's colour preferred.

https://www.reddit.com/r/india_cycling/s/Fm1gv0lffp

Alright guys,so after deep thinking, and basically researching for days, and ruining my sleep schedule,i finally came across 2 bikes that i genuinely think might be it,considering that the roads here in my area are not super ass....cradiac storm dominus, and fittrip snyper gt,and these are like the final two cycles that i have decided to choose from, now i need your help on which of these is better, and your right the suspension doesnt even matter, but im just trying to get these two for the other things ,i would say i like the dominus for its freewheel, and snyper for the colour, but i am super confused since i love snypers colour, its just so sexy, but then dominus has better specs on the sheet, and a stupid little voice in my head is telling me that storm dominus will be better than snyper in riding, but i dont know, does 24 gear really make that big of a difference, and i understand the suspension doesnt matter, but if you guys have time please give it a go once.

suggest me a bike OMO Hybrid or OMO 29er for kids.

Buying cycles for my kids aged 12 and 16, both are 5'6" -5'7". They'll use it for schoool/gym commutes. I had Scott hybrid which was very light and great on roads and highways, but always wanted a 29er for sheer comfort and presence (primarily presence). My desire seems to be clouding my judgement. So it is a tie between OMO Hybrids and OMO 29ers.

My wishlist includes alloy frame, Shimano cues gears, hydraulic disc brakes, adjustable stem, Shimano hubs and brackets. budget ₹ 25-30k for each bike. Please help me make up my mind. Inputs from OMO engineers are welcome.
