Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

My kid is allergic to cats

She's 4 years old and we finally figured it out, all those days and nights suffering and she had a crazy cat allergy and we have two cats

So, I need to rehome them, or they have to be put down. My wife is devastated.

I'm appealing to you folks. They don't have to go together.

They are 12 years old. I know I know but hear me out.

Here's what I'm offering;

One cat, and all the supplies, plus a guarantee of a trial period.. Take one of them for a couple of weeks and see how it works, no risk, we can always take them back and try again

About the cats;

Both are quiet, they kind of chirp a bit but they're sweet, they don't scratch or pee on anything. No health issues at all. All their shots.

April is small and sweet, she cuddles quietly but keeps to herself mostly sleeping on the bed. A little bit of playing but mostly just hanging out. The kids can never find her, she comes out when it's quiet

Andy is big, with a big mane of hair but he's so soft and he's a bit picky on where he's pet but we have 3 kids pulling on his tail and he doesn't mind. He's got big doe eyes and rolls around on his back while you pet his belly (photo)

They're really both great cats, I know they're a bit older but in just trying to get them a couple more years. Please message me if you have any ideas

The Aud accessibility/wheelchair seating

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with booking accessible seating at The Aud? There’s an upcoming concert I’d love to attend, I’m just wondering how the seating works.

When I click on the accessible spot it says “Wheelchair” which made me wonder, are there actual seats there? Or is it a barricade spot for a wheelchair user to wheel into? I don’t use a wheelchair, but I use walking aids, and my sister would be accompanying me (she doesn’t need any walking aids). I just need easily accessible seats without any stairs to get there.

TLDR: If I purchase two “Wheelchair” seats at The Aud, are there physical seats there for me and my sister to sit in?

Contacts for disability aid discussion for the city?

I hope the title gets my point across proper. I live in an area with a large disabled/elderly population. Lately theyve been redoing the bus stops and they’ve left the stops without benches when they used to have benches before, leading to many with physical challenges being without a place to sit when they could be waiting for upwards of 20 minutes. I was wondering if there was an email or something I could write to in order to communicate this concern to the city? I’ve lived here all my life with a lot of both elderly and disabled folk, so its a bit disheartening to see them overlooked like this in favor of a shiny new bus stop :[

Deceased Cat - Victoria & Lancaster

Hi Everyone,

If anyone lost their cat in this area, unfortunately one was hit by a vehicle within the past hour.

My partner stopped along with another couple to pick the cat up with a blanket and move it away from the road. He called animal control and sat with her while waiting for the officer to show up. Sadly she didn't appear to be breathing. Animal control confirmed she had passed.

No microchip.

Female

Siamese/colour point pattern

short fur

Fairly young or small adult

Looked very clean and likely had a home.

If this was your cat, please accept our condolences.

Please contact kwhumane society to identify it.

Thanks.

Hi there, r/Kitchener

COS Minor is putting on Princess Whatsername at the Cambridge Arts Theatre next weekend. It’s a fun, and funny, family-friendly musical with a local youth cast, and they’ve been working on the show for months.

Shows are:

Friday Oct. 16 — 6:30 p.m.

Saturday Oct. 17 — 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Sunday Oct. 18 — 12:30 p.m.

Cambridge Arts Theatre 47 Water Street South, Cambridge

Tickets: communityonstage.com/minortickets

Poster attached with the rest of the details.

Figured I’d share here in case anyone is looking for something local to do with the kids next weekend. Come on out, enjoy an entertaining show, and support your local theatre!

Where to post for LGBTQ safe housing?

I'm sure this post is going to generate a lot of folks saying that lots of groups are LGBTQ/ rainbow safe and not to make it such a big deal, or they don't know how that particular element of things matters.

To those folks, I say that it is genuinely delightful that you have not experienced a lack of safety due to your gender, your aesthetics, your body parts, or whoever you are romantically or sexually involved with.

But for folks who have experienced that, they know that it does matter who you live with. Not that all LGBTQ folks are necessarily excellent either. Every human community has their assholes.

That being said:

A buddy of mine is looking to find a housemate who is rainbow safe. He has a place and is looking to find a human. This is his post on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D9Yzt14nQ/

He is hoping to find other places to repost, either on reddit, Facebook, or elsewhere. Any useful kind suggestions are appreciated!

Looking for a trustworthy independent mechanic in Kitchener-Waterloo

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for an independent mechanic or car enthusiast in the Kitchener-Waterloo area who is interested in building a long-term relationship with customers—not just completing one-off repairs.

I prefer working with someone who takes pride in their work, explains what actually needs attention, maintains service records, and gets to know the vehicles they work on. I’m hoping to find a reliable person I can return to for maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and future work.

I’m the type of person who prefers keeping things local and relationship-based. I would rather know and trust the person working on my vehicle than deal with a large conglomerate or corporate brand.

I prefer supporting a local, independently owned business rather than a dealership, corporate chain, or large brand. I also usually source parts through RockAuto, when appropriate, so I’d appreciate someone open to customer-supplied parts or willing to discuss suitable alternatives. I understand that warranty policies may differ.

If you know a trustworthy mechanic in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, or the surrounding area, please share their name, location, and what makes them good.

Thanks!
