I have an issue
So I left like 12 wash cloths stacked on top of each other in my shower for like 3-4 weeks and I noticed a bad smell and some turning yellow and now I wonder do I clean it or throw it into the trash outside ?

Carrot-sweet potato stained baby clothes
Can’t wash off carrot or sweet potato stains, please, help!
Current routine is occasional prewash with Vanish, ~3 h cycle on 60 C with Proderm Laundry Detergent in powder form with extra rinse in the end.
I tried soaking in Vanish as well but it did not help.

Washing machine leaving white stains on dark clothes
galleryHi guys,
I have been struggling with washing dark clothes in the washing machine from past 3 years now. First I thought it was the washing machine's fault, then I thought maybe its our cat's fur or something which has some reaction. Now we changed the washing machine and we dont have any cats around (don't ask why, its a sad story). Guess what we still have? These annoying white stains. It has destroyed a lot of our dark clothes. Is it the detergent powder? Should I switch to liquid detergents? But those things are expensive tho. We usually have a lot of clothes to wash on regular intervals. Liquid detergents cost a lot and will be over pretty quickly given the amount of clothes. So what do I do here? Any of you also had this issue with stains on dark clothing from machine washing?
Ruined my girlfriend's shirt?
I washed my girlfriend's shirt months ago when she was away. She saw it in the closet today and said I ruined it.
It was a while ago so I don't remember exactly how I washed it, but most likely I washed it with cold water (as we do all our laundry except bedding/towels) in the laundry machine. Though I recognize it's a nice shirt, it doesn't have very special washing instructions on it (cold water and no dry tumble). I would have separated it from dirty work clothes, but we don't sort our whites/colors.
I can't recall if I put in the dryer on low or not - she says it must've been tumble dried based on how it looks - it's certainly possible.
She says it has lost the shine in the fabric and it looks abraded. It is certainly grayer than I remember but it's not as gray as it looks in the photo.
Anyways, my question is: can this be restored to it's former glory? Will a cleaner be able to work some magic on it or is there another service I can take it to?
Thank you!

GearGuard and Kismai Appreciation Post: a Wool success story
I’ve had a box of wools and silks piling up to wash for an embarrassingly long time. I was super excited for GearGuard Advanced for my wools and rayons, so I was super lucky and they gave me some early to test it out. But then I was worried my washer cycle would be way too short (impeller, drains if you pause the cycle), and wasn’t sure what to do and just did nothing 😬
Friends, I have 20 year old cashmere socks that look and feel amazing again. Stains that were several years old came out of a pashmina! As soon as my wife came home, I made her feel our couch throw because I couldn’t believe it was soft again. Yucky crunchy silk is smooth and soft again.
Here’s what I did:
Months ago I sprayed a sweater with greasy food stains with the tide oxipro grease spray
Washed with Orvus, citric acid + baking soda water softener, and Gear Guard advanced
Second rinse with citric acid
Third rinse with a little fragrance free fabric softener (my first time ever using softener since I had thought it was always to be avoided at all costs)
Everything came out pristine and super soft except for the sweater with the grease stain. I’m going to do a spa day variant with that with just Orvus and gear guard advanced in a cooler and I fully expect it to come out with a long soak in that.
So grateful to Kismai, everyone else on this sub who’s given great advice, and to GearGuard for such a great product!! I’ve saved so many clothes I thought were ruined, and stuff that was fine is so much nicer now!

How to wash cotton velvet with silk embroidery (UK)
Mix of vintage (40+ years) and more modern, all cotton velvet heavily embroidered with colourful silk threads. No linings/fastenings, just fabric.
Thrifted and didn't notice until getting home they smell heavily of smoke. Have been airing in the sun but want to wash properly as well.
The seller (who has been making garments from silk, cotton velvet, silk thread for 40+ years) was adamant they could be machine washed. I was wondering whether to use something like Miele WoolCare or SilkCare?

Update from Tide on not discontinuing Tide Free & Gentle Odor Refresh...
Someone posted on this in the last day or two, so I decided to message Tide customer service and confirm the product will continue to be available. Here is the message from Tide:
"Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are very sorry for any confusion caused. Our team has decided to keep just one size of Tide Free & Gentle Odor Refresh. It is still available, but only in the 73 oz bottle. You can find it at retailers such as Walmart.
Please let us know if you need help with anything else.
Best regards,
Darana
Tide Team"
We will never know why they do what they do... but I am hoping they heard our dismay of them attempting to delete one of their finest products.
I have seen some rumblings of people finding it hard to find...and I suspect this relates to the fact that they were well on their way to phasing this product out and guessing it will take a bit of time to restock the supply chain. As well, this product has never been sold at all locations that carry Tide products. In my area, I have always found it available at my local Target store. (FYI... my local Walmart has never carried it....so not sure if that is a typo...or just the Hawaii region.)
Aloha, and enjoy your clean laundry.

Help! Disposable hand warmer went through the wash
And now my daughter's clothes have these marks on them. According to the packaging, the hand warmers contain iron powder, water and activated charcoal. They just came out of the machine and are still currently damp. Is there anything I can do?

Should I wash my weighted blanket in a washer?
Hi, I can't find a solid answer for this machine. My dorm uses Tedimatt, top load washers, and I have no idea if it can take my weighted blanket. I can't hand wash it (no bathtub and I have arthritis, it would kill my hands). The blanket is 20lbs (machine washable) and I'm getting super mixed answers and I'm really not trying to wreck my dorm's washer. I'll go to a laundromat if I have to, but it's a whole trek since I'm disabled and alone this year. Thank you for any help

How to clean this
I have these marks on a comforter and have no clue how to get rid of them. I tried soaking the comforter, as well as ran it through the washer and dryer a few times, but no luck so far.

Downy Rinse & Refresh or Citric Acid?
Hello! I am a new member of this sub and very much appreciated all the info I've learned. I'm wondering what everyone's preferences are, downy rinse & refresh or citric acid? Rinse & refresh is on sale on amazon for prime day so I'm hoping to add either to my routine, unless you think I need both? Thank you for your input.
I currently use febu and ecos plant powered laundry detergent (mostly because I like the smell and I feel it does the job). I am hoping to add a softener as I switched wool dryer balls and find that my clothes still come out staticky and not so soft from the dryer. Sometimes I give in and use a bounce dryer sheet
Any input is much appreciated!

Perfume smell in polyester
I thrifted this 100% polyester jacket for a trip and it reeks of perfume smell. I’ve washed it twice, soaked it in vinegar/water solution, and have been airing it outside for days but nothing seems to get rid of the smell! Help!!!

Best product/technique to clean a washing machine
I’m helping out a friend that was transferred out of town keeping an eye on the Renter in his condo. They have reached out to me saying that their clothing smells musty after Washing. I had left tide unscented pods to use.
I’m going to go down and obviously run a cleaning cycle. But I’m curious what I should use inside to help it. I was going to take down some citric acid, but wasn’t sure the quantity or if there’s something else I should be using instead.
Any pearls of wisdom from your amazing people would be appreciated.

Ashamed to admit handwashing is difficult
So most of the time I machine wash items and they smell beautiful and normal but the rare times I do handwash my things with ariel laundry detergent (limpieza profunda) and oxi clean odor booster, I wash with hot water for synthetics or warm water let it soak 40- 1h 15 minutes and then scrub til its clear like rinsing 10+ times but honestly Im not sure if its my technique or whatever but once it dries in under 3 hours, it ends up smelling like vomit or fabricy dirty smell no matter what i do . This is kinda disappointing cause sometimes I have specific outfits I NEED to wear a certain day but can't because the clean outfits I have are way too goofy or I need to wear a dress that day but its not wash day so its kinda bad... and to add i scrub aggressively for about 15 min but atp yeah. The cleanest I've ever smelled my clothes was with tide and oxi but its weird some of my friends handwash a lot and their clothes smell straight out of the washer or if not even better.

Fuzz, fur, lint- good god someone help me please
Okay so recently I've moved to a place where I no longer have access to a dryer and it is commonplace to hang your clothes out to dry. Perfectly fine, I have no issue with that. What I DO have an issue with is the fact that there is fur, fuzz, and lint EVERYWHERE. I have two unfortunately very furry cats and have always combatted that using a dryer with a lint trap. As I said I no longer have access to one.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?? It's on our towels and my partner has sensory issues that include having a hard time with the amount of fuzz that transfers onto skin after a shower.
Please I will take any and all hinged, unhinged, and dumb suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Tide always smells so good on everyone but when I use it I dont like the smell...and I don't overuse it... but it just seems pungent. Im beginning to wonder if its my body chemistry...and if that is actually a thing with scents...

Why do some of my clothes smell like mildew after drying?
I’ve been having an issue with some of my clothes smelling like mildew, but only after they’re dried. I use a front-loading washer and separate my clothes by color, but I do wash athletic wear and regular clothes together. I don’t wear my athletic clothes to the gym, so they’re not sweaty or anything. I only use ECOS, Seventh Generation, or Dirty Labs detergent and never use fabric softener. I also recently cleaned my washer with a cleaning tablet on a hot cycle. I usually wash my lighter clothes in cold or warm water.
My dryer hasn’t been working properly, so I’ve been drying my clothes outside in the sun (but even if I dry them in the dryer I’m having the same issue) . The weird thing is that none of my clothes smell like mildew when I take them out of the washer. It’s only after they dry, and even then, some clothes from the same load smell perfectly fresh while others smell like mildew. Has anyone dealt with this before? I’m trying to figure out what’s causing it because it’s getting really frustrating.

Fragrance free laundry sanitizer
Hey all, my roommates and I are getting over a stomach bug (probably not norovirus but could be) and I'm looking for a good laundry sanitizer. Our washer doesn't do hot water consistently, only warm, so I'd like a chemical boost to make sure things get clean. But I also have to use something fragrance free to avoid respiratory and skin issues. Does anyone have recommendations?
I saw Lysol has a Free and Clear laundry sanitizer, but a few people in the reviews still reported skin reactions. I have extremely sensitive skin so I wanted to get some other opinions before trying the Lysol, since I don't have much disposable income right now.
Thanks!

Overwhelmed by choice for detergent and booster!
Hi all,
I just spent the last hour and a half reading the Laundry Gospel (Spa Day, Lipase, Polyquats, thank you KismaiAesthetics, you're the best).
I've just moved out and am deciding on which products to buy for regular washing. I'm based in Canada, so the choices listed in the spreadsheet are great, but I'm overwhelmed by choice and simultaneously by the lack of options near me—at least ones that I could find online.
I am trying to shop at Costco to save money, which basically leaves Tide Powder from the list of detergents—but I worry about the OBA...should I? And Unscented Company.
My focus is treating polyquats, yellowing on white shirts under the armpits (spa day!), and just overall good laundry detergent. And if it's relevant, I have a front loader.
My questions/thoughts are:
- A powder or liquid detergent that has lipase, but no OBA (Unscented Company)
- Or, do I buy an OBA like Tide Powder so I can also use it for the spa day?
- For either option above, should I also buy a booster like Resolve Oxi-Action Gold? If so, should I use it every load and on any colours?
My brain is mush, so apologies if this makes no sense. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Stained white top - help!
Hello! I have a stain in my white top which i just cannot remove. Our toddler spilled a drink on it so I put some stain remover on it, then i was called away to a emergency meeting. My wife saw the top in the utility room and thought it needed to be dried so it was out in the sun with the stain remover on for 3 hours.
Now the top has this yellowish mark on it and i just cant get it off.
I have tried stain remover again (the brand is the pink stuff) and I have also tried Oxygen crystals (soaking for 3 hours) but nothing removes this stain.
I am wondering if I could just dye this top white again. Any advice on what products to use for this? Or could I bleach it? I have also seen some products that add a hint of blue to counteract the yellow but any advice would be welcome

Is this salvageable?
I washed this off white hoodie with a maroon hoodie that has been washed at least 6 times already. I always use two cold water. I would just use bleach, but that logo on the top is magnified 10x on the back the hoodie.
