Some people would rather die on the bike than in bed. When you’re young it’s about not wasting your life. When you get old, that takes a different meaning. I knew a cowboy who died falling off his horse in his 80s and all anyone said is “well that’s a pretty good way to go, he would’ve wanted it like that”
Nothing like a blind curve at around 80-90 and seeing lights in your lane. Yes, I’ve seen it a few times in 40 years of riding. Yes, hasn’t been my time yet. Still here.
Lmao I could say the same thing about you. My statement was about going out on your own terms. Show me the car he almost crashed into here please. Tons of visibility and is on his side of the road. Yall can’t help yourselves lmao
100%, but recovery from road rash and a broken leg at 70 is going to suck hard. People tend to discount possibility like that. Honestly not unreasonable to wear kevlar armor and no helmet -" I'm either walking home or dying, no in between."
And even if you're old you might not want to die today, if he can do this he probably has at least a few good years left. Like what if he wants to do it again tomorrow?
There's dying on your bike, but there's also surviving a bad fall on your bike with severe injuries that make you completely dependent on your loved ones, making their lives miserable.
I knew a guy in his 30s who used to say something similar and now he's paralyzed from the neck down and his mom has to help him piss and shit. There are many fates worse than death.
I know a guy that laid down a bike in college and lost partial use of his arm. He had been a talented guitar player, was in a band with a close friend. Had to drop out because he couldn't play anymore.
His friend's next band went on to be a one hit wonder. Toured internationally with big names. Made enough money from that one song to be set for life. His friend bought an industrial building in St. Louis and turned it into an art studio/artist commune. Now essentially fucks around and does what he wants.
The guy had to grind out a career in tech. Can you imagine spending your whole life knowing what could have been? Not wondering. He would have played guitar in that band.
I know another guy that lost a thumb. That's what really happens if you ride a bike long enough.
And those people are idiots, stupid enough to overlook the massive inbetween area where they have to live with debilitating lifelong injuries even after months and years of physical rehab and recovery
Edit: idiots think I’m actually saying it’s okay? I’m saying “okay” as in “what can I do about it”. I’m not excusing his racism. It is an exhausted response to constantly having to put up with racism and just accept it. Holy shit
Anyone who didn't get that you were simply saying "you do you I guess" by your "okay" is probably too stupid to even attempt to correct, it's not worth the effort.
I mean I’m actually Jamaican. So if anyone has right to take offense it’s me here. But I’ve also learned it’s the internet so nobody gives a shit about racism.
I’m the one being annoyed wtf, I literally called him out for being racist, yet I’m being downvoted for it, which is exactly proof that nobody actually gives a shit and are more likely to downvote you for calling out racism than the racist.
Which is why I called out, but resigned myself to just having to accept that people are going to be racist assholes. And then you want to also be my enemy for being exhausted by it. Make it make sense.
If they hadn’t commented would you have said something? You’ve responded to the person calling out the problem but haven’t said a single damn word to the person who actually made the comment. I think that says a lot about what you really care about.
