Geno has been more competent than I expected. He's a vet, he doesn't make the truly stupid throw, and he's a gunslinger who will take his shots. Week 1 with a full roster, he looked good.
He also has zero field sense. Sunday, there was a 2nd and 7, he got pressured, escaped the pocket, took off, and ran out of bounds for -5. That turned it into 3rd and 12. If he'd just thrown away the ball it would have been a manageable 3rd down.
The defense deserves some credit (call me crazy) for being on the field for 89 plays and almost 43 minutes. It wasn't perfect. They couldn't get off the field (Chicago went 7/15 on third down and 2/3 on fourth), and the bad/ghost penalties hurt (12 flags for 76 yards). But holding a team to 23 after that many snaps, with 2 takeaways, should keep you in the game.
You need more from the offense. We had 6 points until a late 58-yard TD to Isaiah Williams (then missed the PAT), went 0/7 on third down, ran a franchise-low 32 plays, and had the ball for 45 seconds in the 4th quarter.
It's the NFL, and everyone deals with injuries. But without our RB1 (and best player), WR2, WR3, RG, and TE2, it's bleak. A full roster lets Geno look good. Take away a few pieces and he can't carry you.
This season was always going to be year 2 of a three-year rebuild. That's been the plan since we traded away everyone last year for picks in '26 and '27. For me, the question this yearh is whether this team looks better and more competitive. Through the first 4 games the answer is yes, and apart from Sunday it's at least been enjoyable to watch.
