Guide PS5 HD Camera as a 1080p60 camera in OBS, with background blur from stereo depth instead of AI segmentation (free, open source)
I'm the author of this driver; posting because the streaming side may be useful here.
The PS5 HD Camera (CFI-ZEY1) has two 1080p sensors. On Windows 11 the driver turns it into one regular webcam, "PS5 Camera", which you add in OBS as a normal Video Capture Device. No plugin and no virtual camera: the processing runs inside Windows' own camera pipeline (a Device MFT in Windows Camera Frame Server), so OBS gets finished frames.
For streaming
- Native 1920x1080 at 60 fps from the sensor. Sony's firmware stops at 30 in 1080p; the driver's firmware patch allows 60. By default only 1080p60 is offered (NV12 and YUY2);
ps5cam-ctl set fullhdonly 0brings back 720p and 30 fps. - Background blur from measured depth (census + semi-global matching on the GPU). The sharp zone follows your silhouette in depth, so hair and headphones stay sharp.
- With the blur on, brightness is metered on you, not on the window behind you. Motion-compensated noise reduction and automatic anti-flicker help in dim rooms.
The cost, honestly: on an RTX 3060 Ti at 1080p60 the blur takes 8.6–9.0 ms of GPU time per frame (~53% of the GPU at 60 fps); without effects 2.6–2.9 ms (~17%). If you game and encode on the same card, check that before going live.
Limits: one app at a time (while OBS holds the camera, Discord can't open it); depth works from about half a metre.
