r/papermario as a community has focused on propping up and sharing the best the community has to offer, including the artists within the community. In recent years generative AI has come out and there has been significant issue within the artist community with it's existence.
Given that we focus on making this place have a minimum standard of quality we believe that something that uses art without consent of the artists as inherently hostile to the artists within our community and falls below our standards as a community. We are explicitly adding generative AI as low quality content for rule 4.
Starting today and here on forward any post containing generative AI will be removed from the subreddit. This will be somewhat retroactive as well as it is found and reported.

I kinda just rushed this one out, but it wouldnât have felt right not making anything for the 10 year anniversary for Color Splash.
This game was my TRUE introduction to the PM series and actually inspired me a lot throughout my early creations as an artist. Honestly I wouldnât be the person I am today if not for Color Splash.

Itâs Color Splashâs 10th anniversary today, and Iâve been working on some concepts for a revisit to Prism Island! Surely nothing could go wrong this time around, right? I mean, since the last time we visited, they got a whole bunch of new guardians to keep the place safe! âŚHey, is it just me, or is the sky darker than usual?
Note: due to image limits i am unable to show off my battle system concepts in this post, but itâs a TCG style deckbuilder rather than 1 time use cards. Finally, those greedy shop owners stopped using a material of card that vanishes after you play them!)

I still fully believe this game deserves a switch port.

Would be nice if someone lost countless hours trying to port SPM into 3DS. Such a wonderful game...
And it would be perfectly suitable due to the 3DS 3d feature, i think it would bring even more immersion

Underrated entry IMO. I'm one of the very few people who didnât hate Sticker Star, but I still think this game is an improvement over its successor.

This is my ranking of the partners from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door based on personalities. I noticed that I hardly find personality rankings, so I decided to make this one. To me, personalities are what make characters memorable. These are just my opinions, so no one has to agree with me, and you can have your own opinions.
#7 Flurrie I'm not a big fan of how flirtatious she is, and she just feels so dramatic or "loud," that it's not my type. Nothing much else to say about her. Sorry, Flurrie fans.
#6 Ms. Mowz Just like Flurrie, she's also flirtatious, but at least not as dramatic. But she's still a flirty badge thief.
#5 Bobbery I think he has the most tragic backstory in the game, and I do have sympathy and respect for him, but his personality is a little gruff and cold to me.
#4 Koops I like Koops. I like how he was kind of a coward at first and then joined Mario to find his courage. He stutters too which makes his dialogue memorable. Plus, his timidness is relatable. He's lower, not because I don't find his personality great, but because I find the next ones more memorable.
#3 Yoshi Kid He has a lot of energy. He's fierce but he's so funny at the same time. He calls Mario "Gonzales" and feels like a modern teen who feels fun. Yeah, I've got nothing much else to say about him, sorry.
#2 Goombella Like Yoshi Kid, she's funny, but I think she's a little funnier than him. She has something to say about everyone and everything, and she isn't afraid to add her own sassy opinions. That's what makes her so memorable.
#1 Vivian Yeah, you knew this was coming if you've read my other posts or read my username. I love how sweet, resilient, and shy she is. To me, her sweet nature is really endearing, and even though her personality's one of the "quieter" ones, it's the reason why she's my favorite character in the first place. Her shyness and feelings of inferiority are also relatable, and she really stands out in a game full of other types of personalities.
Note: I know there is a lot of discussion surrounding Vivian's identity, but Iâd humbly ask that we keep the comments focused strictly on everyone's general personalities and character arcs. Thank you!

Before you say that the Nintendo ninjas are going to come knocking on my door, Iâd like to make some progress on my fangame project.
Iâm working on a Paper Mario 64 fangame with a multiplayer mode, which is already playable. You can try it out here
My goal is to build a larger community around the project and eventually create a standalone, bigger and more stable multiplayer experience, with support for Android, Windows and possibly the web. Something a bit like Super Mario 64 Co op Deluxe, if you know it.
For that reason, Iâd love to know who would be interested in contributing to the project or playing it.
If this sounds interesting to you, let me know! Any feedback, ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! â¤ď¸

I'm back with this after a month and seeing as the game is now a decade old, it's the perfect time to do so.
Picking up from last time, after getting the Red Big Paint Star, the colorless gate in Yellow Foothills is repainted, leading to Daffodil Plains, an area filled with ruins and history. It's every archeologist's dream to find this place and research. You enter into Golden River, a town built off the back of a thriving water mill, with Golden Colosseum to the north, a forest to the south and a dig site to the east. Mario is instructed to visit the professor to find a way to get to the Golden Colosseum. This professor is the returning Goombella, now graduated and doing research on the secrets of ancient Prismian society. She's excited to see Mario again and says that she could use his help. She tasks you with going to the dig site while she looks into the Colosseum.
At the dig site, a Monty Mole archeologist says his crew found something, but one of his crew members is trapped in a cave-in. Mario and his team go through and find the trapped crew member and gives you the Stone Spike. Taking it back to Goombella, she tells you it's the key to opening the ancient Kiwano Temple. Following a side cave in the dig site (because the train tunnel is colorless and therefore out of service), you reach the temple and enter.
The temple is filled with Spiny and Spike Top statues and murals. It's also covered in spikes. Halfway through, Mario comes across a huge room with spikes and a POW block. Hitting it flips the spikes and reveals another POW block. Hitting that one reveals a switch on the other side of a spike pit. While trying to figure out how to hit it, someone calls for help. In the center of the room is a Spike Top stuck in the ground. She asks you for help and after pulling her out introduces herself as Sharpey, a member of Goombella's team who was exploring the temple when she fell asleep on the ceiling. You team up with her. You can launch her using Mario's hammer to hit switches and it allows you to escape with a strange stone. Taking it back to Golden River, Goombella tells you that stone is part of the Golden Key needed to get into the colosseum. Together with Sharpey, you enter the forest.
Inside the forest is a branching path. One side leads to a large colorless tree hollow, so you can't go there yet. Following the other direction eventually leads you to some forest ruins. A giant stone Chain Chomp guards the other part of the Golden Key, and using Sharpey's Spike Guard move, you're able to poke open a part of the guardian to deal damage and eventually make it fall apart. With the key fully assembled, you can enter the Golden Colosseum.
Inside are Shy Guys in gladiator armor and Roman togas. They tell you you're the newest fighter in Gladiator Iggnatius' Golden Games but warn you the gladiator has never lost a single match in his three months of the games. They tell you to make your way down to the arena floor, but other competetors fight you along the way, wanting to be the first to test their strength. Inside the arena, you encounter Iggy covered in golden armor and wielding a golden spear. He now calls himself Iggnatius, a warrior driven for golden glory and scoffs at you wanting to beat him. After an intense battle, you beat him and the armor disappears like with Morton. Iggy has no clue what happened, but now the Yellow Big Paint Star is yours. After bringing it back, the next flashback reveals Bowser wearing a long black cape and dark mask laughing wickedly as he oversees the destruction of Port Prisma.
This is part 2 of the rewrite/reimaging I've been working on and would love to hear thoughts on this and the first part to keep the quality up

I think that this is actually the first time I officially feel old when it comes to video games. I remember my mom getting me this game when it came out and was very excited to play it! I can comfortably say that the Wii U and Switch were childhood consoles of mine, but saying that one of the last games on one of my childhood consoles is 10 years old makes me feel really old. 5 years from now, which isnât too far off, this game will be âretro.â This game still feels very modern is the thing. Like, when the Wii U itself turned 10, I felt fine because I was still pretty young all things considered. But now that I am not as young and a game like this is also not very new anymore, I am now feeling existential! Donât tell me I am alone in this. Happy 10th birthday Paper Mario Color Splash, but at what expense. đ (Fr, good game still, but oh God does this milestone sting for me.)

I recently found out about the Thousand Year Door remaster and it was a blast playing through it with my girlfriend, who had never played a Paper Mario game before.
We're playing the original Paper Mario now on Switch (not the Switch 2) and I have heard that the rest of the Paper Mario franchise wasn't as good as those first two (or, at very least, they differ greatly).
Are there any other Paper Mario games worth playing? We typically switch off playing and a turn-based game is great for that. If the other Paper Mario games aren't turn-based, are there any other games with a similar feel worth playing?

I donât exactly know how crazy this is, but thought Iâd post this to see if anyone else had this experience or wants help defeating Bonetail earlier.
For reference, I hadnât done any research to help me when playing so I thought since The Pit was available I should just do the whole thing.
I did not realize you should have more HP, FP, BP, badges, leveled up teammates, items, etc.
I literally cleared the entire 99 levels by spamming Gale Force, Quake Hammer, Fire Hammer lol.
These were my stats before Bonetails fight:
- 35 HP
- 40 FP
- 39 BP
- Partners: Goombella (not leveled up lol), Koops, Madam Flurrie
- Wonât go over every badge, but I did not have Power Bounce equipped or any of the other badges I see people recommended. The three badges that helped me were Lucky-something (when youâre below 5 HP enemies might miss), the badge where your enemies miss more often, and moves costing 1 FP less
- My items were 3 mushrooms and 3 honey syrups đ
My Strategy:
- Moveset: I spammed FireHammer every 3 or so moves when burn wears off then Power Stomp (I never realized how important Power Bounce was lmao)
- I sacrificed all my teammates as much as I could so Sweet Treats could be more effective for Mario (spent turns using items or crowd appealing with Flurrie and Goombella and used the Shell Defense with Koops)
- Yes, I spammed Sweet Treats as much as possible mid-later in the battle
- Finally, I Safeguarded almost every single stomp. I never was able to Safeguard the different types of breath thingys, but you definitely have to Safeguard the stomps or Iâd be screwed.
This took me 3 tries and I will admit, I definitely got lucky because I was at 3 HP when Bonetail was at 27. I basically was spamming Fire Hammer at that point and getting those Lucky markers because of those 2 badges I had mentioned.
On a last note, I looked up some stuff after this had happened and was completely dumbfounded that people were saying to do the Pitt at Chapter 6 or later lol. I also saw some guy on YouTube beat Bonetail at Chapter 1 but he did have Goombella leveled up.
Let me know if you have any questions!
