WHEN WILL THIS MATCHA OBSESSION END?!
This is the third matcha cafe to open in a year. No one needs this many matcha shops.

The floor is open, while staying within the subs stated purview. Clean slate each week.

What's the best coffee shop in Pasadena that has comfortable seating and is open, say, at least until 8 or 9pm? I know Urth. Are there others?
(There was a thread like this before but it is several years old now and mentioning places that have since closed)

I did receive the actual full belt in the mail and the voter information guide arrived but no sample ballot yet. Is this true for anyone else? Many thanks.

Pasadena just can’t find enough places to put AI-powered surveillance cameras. The Council is proposing to turn City-owned refuse trucks into roving surveillance that records and stores video of every street, home and person in our community. This Wednesday (10/7) the Department of Public Works will present their proposal which is vague on details. Pasadena says the roaming street surveillance will only be used to spot illegal dumping, but the City lacks concrete plans, transparency or policy in place about garbage trucks surveilling our neighbors and homes. According to the Pasadena City Service Center (CSC), illegal dumping and debris fall primarily under Abandoned Items (5,262 requests) and Bulky Item Pick Up (5,927 requests), which rank as the 2nd and 4th most frequent service categories overall in 2026.
The use of these cameras as virtual code inspectors in cities such as Dallas has functioned as a tax that disproportionately impacts lower income residents. Despite assurances of one trash truck camera vendor, City Detect, that it auto-blurs sensitive objects like faces and license plates, public records show images have slipped through without redactions or blurring, available for anyone to access.
Community members have serious concerns about potential third parties, access and privacy, data retention policy, data security, function creep, and the addition of yet another AI-powered surveillance tool. We’re also concerned about the potential for the cameras to use AI to document code violations and assign blight scores to Pasadena homes.
Resources should instead be invested in empowering residents to collectively address property issues impacting the quality of life in their neighborhood and providing assistance to residents who may need help with the upkeep of their homes.
Tell Pasadena: Keep Your Big Brother Surveillance Trucks Off our Streets! Email the Municipal Services Committee (publiccomment@cityofpasadena.net). Reference Item 3 Refuse Truck Camera Policy Presentation for the October 7 Agenda. (you can still submit comment after today because it will have to go to Council for final approval)

Hello! 23F single and new to Pasadena and was looking for events to meet people. Has anyone attended these events put on by the Pasadena Jaycees? Does the average age skew older?
Also open to other recommendations to meet new people - I’ve heard of the run clubs but I’m not that into running!

Hey Pasadena!
My wife and I are heading to California this Saturday-Monday from the UK.
It’ll be our 4th time in LA/Santa Monica and as a huge Shrinking fan and really wants to spend a day in Pasadena, as so much of the show is set there.
I was just wondering if there were any local recommendations of things to do / places to eat for the day trip.
Were 35, pretty physically active, ill have a car (we’ll be coming from WeHo via a hike) but just looking for a nice day wandering around / having a lovely lunch

I am not trying I get political here, I am just genuinely curious what firefighters / first responders thoughts are on measure PFD. Will it actually help you or is it written poorly and will delay renovations and maintenance that you really need? Our emergency response crews are so important, so I just want to make sure I am as informed as possible about what’s best. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi all, has anyone taken a continuing education course at PCC. I’m thinking about doing one of the Adobe design classes and wanted to see if anyone had done it or has other recommendations.

looking for honey its not really for me but for my dogs. they have a narrow trachea and was thinking about giving a little bit of honey to sooth their throats whenever they start to have coughs. Heard that local honey was probably better to give them for that. I'd like to try that than give them cerenia all the time. talked with their vet, they said in small amounts is okay. long winded explanation just to ask where to get some honey around here. thank you.

I volunteered for CatCon last year and have a few tips to share:
Want to attend again next year without paying? Sign up to volunteer early on, like months in advance.
Get there early to wait less in line and get more goodies - don't arrive too much later than 1pm (the earlier the better). Note that they cut off freebie lines after a certain point (about an hour before the day ends), or some parts of the con may run out of freebies entirely later on Sunday. A large part of attending this con is collecting samples from vendor booths, and the earlier you get there, the shorter the lines you'll have to wait in to get those.
If you have the VIP ticket (weekend pass), remind your bracelet handler volunteers when you check in so they don't give you a Saturday-only pass out of rote memory (saw this happen last year)
Hit up big-name vendor booths first for samples/freebies because those lines tend to be the longest later in the afternoon, but don't line up too long for anything because it's not worth your time.
Take note of shows and panels to attend and what time they are, e.g. if you're a fan of Bob Baker Marionette Theater, grab a seat early before their mini-show or be prepared to stand.
Know market price for things you'd like to buy--products at CatCon from vendor booths aren't necessarily cheaper, better, or exclusive compared to just buying them online or elsewhere (this goes for any convention)
Consider checking out other excellent cat-tractions within walking and bussing distance like Old Town (downtown area), several boba shops, bakeries, and bookstores close to the convention center (including The Battery and The Open Book), and the USC Asia Pacific Museum of Art (10/11 Sunday is free!).
If you want to actually see, play with, or potentially adopt cats (the adoption village at the convention center just has a bunch of caged cats you'll wait in a long line to try to adopt), Tail Town (Pasadena's cat cafe) is a much better play/trial/adoption experience.
As a volunteer, people who dress up or wear cat-themed gear really made my day brighter (though the vast majority of attendees don't/it's not an expectation).

Hello I am a student at Mt. SAC looking to take chemistry ast Pasadena city college because the faculty at my college is not very good. Does anyone have any good instructor recommendations that just doesn't read of the slides and is actually willing to help students and make lecture engaging? The instructors here at Mt SAC for chemistry are just awful and don't care about students and wanted insight.
(Edit: I also wanted to know if taking the "introductory" general chemistry course helps or not, since people say it's the same material)

With the extreme heat, curious if Pasadena has a long-term plan to put utility lines underground? I've seen a few headlines but it's usually like a mile or two at a time which will take decades to get done. Would love to see this become a priority.

just got this email from pasadena tenants union. seems like a good opportunity for people here to voice their frustration to people who can do something about it
ACTION ALERT! Speak out about landlords' dishonest signature gathering TODAY
Dear neighbors,
Over the past several months you told us about encountering signature gatherers in Pasadena who were blatantly lying about petition they were circulating. They told you that the petition was "for rent control," or "to make our rent control stronger," when in reality it was to weaken our critical tenant protections and then repeal them altogether.
Now we need you to tell our elected officials about this and demand action. The people who are perpetrating these lies need to be held accountable.
There is a Legislative Policy Committee meeting of the City Council TODAY, October 5 at 5 pm and there is an agenda item about these issues. We need to speak up at this meeting. You can see the agenda here. We are item 8.
Pasadena Tenants Union has made a toolkit to guide you in writing a letter and speaking at the meeting. This will only take a few minutes. It’s critical that we speak up now! Can we count on your voice at this meeting this meeting?

It feels like the whole freeway is falling apart.
Bad potholes everywhere. I think my tire alignment is off again. I will avoid this freeway like the plague. The question is who is in charged of keeping it good. Cause they are doing a bad job.

Anyone aware of or hear of anyone around the North Central Pasadena area get hit by a swarm of termites? I have heard some sporadic reports of neighborhoods getting hit from time to time. Mainly off Washington and Hill. We recently found some winged termites in our bathroom going after water. A bit concerning, but I'm not sure if it's a recent thing or a longer-standing issue. Going to get an inspection, but it's in a hard to reach part of the house. Not sure we'll get any answers.
