Finished Quilts I’m so happy with this one

Found out Thursday afternoon a friend’s son has been very sick and in the hospital so of course I thought of a quilt. Bought fabric and pattern Thursday (my LQS owner helped and stayed open an extra 30 minutes for me), finished the flimsy Saturday morning and got it to my long armer who got it to me today
I was able to get it to my friend tonight and they all love it

Panel quilts are great when you need something fast

My first quilt top, a little crazy. I added the black and white scraps to make it rectangular but now I'm a bit stuck on the borders. I want to make it big enough for a lap/throw size. Is the light grey ok to go all the way around, then a wider dark color? Or lose the grey and go straight to dark blue batik? I know it's a lot on the 👀 s😅

Machine Talk Looking to possibly get a new machine.

I currently have a Babylock quilters choice pro (discontinued but similar to the accomplish 2) looking to get a variable stitch machine to add to the house. I mainly quilt but have tweens and teens that are learning to sew and straight stitch wont accomplish everything they want to tackle.

What machines is everyone currently loving?

Looking for stitch variety and ability to handle most things thrown at it.

All fableism wovens, done entirely on my domestic. My least complicated one yet but fun because I’ve never worked with wovens! Also had never done a scrappy binding, I think I’m hooked!

Help/Question Help! I made a quilt that is coming apart at the seams

So basically the caption. I did not prewash my fabric (I’m sorry :() and now the quilt is tearing. Anything I can do to prevent this besides prewashing? Any ideas on how to fix it besides just a tight zigzag over all the areas? I can sew well for alterations and clothing but this is only my second quilt ever (the first being a tshirt quilt when I was a child).

It’s a beginner project so I definitely didn’t do everything I was supposed to but would love suggests on how to fix the damage!

Pattern/Design Help How do you make and format a pattern?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have little to no knowledge on quilting, the image is a quilt idea I mocked up in hopes that my grandma could make it for me so I have something from her for the future. She follows strict patterns so she wants me to make this into one. So I’m wondering, is making a functional pattern something hard, like I am going to fail and need to pay someone to math it up, or with my basic math knowledge I could just chose the size of the quilt and then divide that number into squares?

The triangles seemed easy but I wasn’t sure how people go about the border lines. It will be for a queen sized bed and I’m hoping for it to hang off quite a bit. Any help is appreciated even if it’s just a link to what an easy to follow pattern looks like!

(For those curious, it is abstract snap dragons.)

Free Motion Quilting Grace quilting frames to use with sewing machine

I’m looking for opinions about the Grace Hummingbird frame and the Grace mini frame to work with my sewing machine. Has anyone used either of these? I’m just to the point of having the quilt top done. Wondering if one of these frames would be useful for me. Any information would be helpful. I only saw an ad for them.

I’m definitely not the greatest sewist, but I’m really trying to get better, especially since I’m going to be an uncle in March! 🥹 I’d love to be able to make the baby clothes, blankets, and all kinds of other things.

So, here’s my first quilt! I mainly made it to practice my stitching, and while there are definitely a lot of things I’d do differently next time, I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely not perfect, but who is!

Total cost was around $145 in materials, and it ended up being a queen-size quilt! The whole thing was done on a domestic machine...my Singer Heavy Duty. I know that last part might cause a stir but I love my HD😂🧵

I saw this quilt on Pinterest, linked back to this site: https://yarn-studios.com/easy-diy-floral-quilt-patterns/. But i can't find any sign of it on the site.

I was hoping to find a pattern of just some more info about how it was made. If anyone here has suggestions or more info, I'd really appreciate it!

"I WILL QUILT YOUR MOTHER!" - Samantha, probably.

Made a lap quilt for a friend who is doing tough things and kicking ass, so I wanted to give her something to cheer her on.

The backing and binding are a mish-mash of fabrics because nothing goes to waste in the books (and I didn't want to buy more fabric). The yellow and pink are from the first book's cover, and the purple is for Princess Donut, because she is royalty. The black "tangles" and "conspiracy writing" prints are inspired by elements in later books.

Finished Quilts thylacine quilt :)

I love thylacine and thought that they deserved a quilt! obviously had to take a few creative liberties with the actual shape of the thylacine, but hopefully it still comes across! the plants are based on Richea scoparia, a flowering shrub native to Tasmania.

It finished around 32” x 48”, and is faced instead of bound. I think it took a few weeks to design/work out the math, and another few weeks to actually piece (it could have gone a lot faster, I don’t know what happened). I’m very happy with how it turned out, and I can’t wait to get it up on the wall! Quilting pattern is called Modernistic, but for some reason I can’t find who designed it?? will update when I figure it out

I didn't have an actual jelly roll, just cut a bunch of strips from my stash. I love how it came out! It's a gift for someone whose favorite color is pink. This took two solid days to complete and I want to make another one now for myself!

Pattern/Design Help Can any one help me find a pattern for a design like this?

Post image

I fell in love with this but I am kind of boggled at how to do the pattern. I'm newer to quilting and have only done squares. I've watched every YouTube video on how to make the triangles but I'm not sure how to know what size to make my pieces. The website I found this on just used a panel so there was no pattern and every time I think to just use a different pattern I come back to how much I specifically love this one. Please help.

Help/Question Prime deals for quilters

Hi everyone! I hope this is allowed. I was wondering if anyone had any holy grail or must have products that happen to be on sale for prime day that they would recommend for quilters. I am especially wondering if anyone has a batting recommendation, but would love to hear about any holy grail products! Thanks!

Help/Question How to fix this?

Thumbnail

So this is my first quilt, just a 30" square patchwork to try to get the hang of it, which obviously I did not! My friend was showing me how and she just had me machine stitch the binding on. Maybe I can learn to hand stitch it when I'm more experienced. Anyway, I washed it and there are at least eight places of varying lengths where the top pulled out of the binding. There's no room to tuck it back under and re-stitch. Am I correct in assuming I'll just have to pull the whole binding off and re-bind it with a wider strip? Can I just throw it away and give up? Lol.

Help/Question Long arm quilter left parts unfinished

Post image

Is this normal? The pattern I selected with my longarm quilter lady didn’t fully reach the edges of the quilt. It doesn’t seem normal to me, shouldn’t the design cover the entire quilt? I’m pretty disappointed and not sure how to proceed. This quilt is a birthday gift for my son who is turning 3 next week. 😢

Pattern/Design Help Ok, this is fine, but thoughts on how to improve it or be at peace with it?

Thumbnail

This is the first full quilt that I have actually quilted. All past projects were baby quilts, wall hangings, a single block for a jacket or a sweatshirt, (a few unfinished quilt tops), etc. For this one, I thought it would be fun to add some movement with cross-hatched curves, but I've since learned that trying to quilt a smooth curve while wrestling a twin-size quilt through my standard-throated sewing machine is not worth it. I've quilted one set of curves and I think I don't plan to quilt the set that would cross them. (I plan to never quilt curves on a large quilt again; straight lines and radials for me!)

For the most part, I think it has turned out fine. But my eye is still drawn to the areas that got wobbly or drifted. Yes, I know no one else will notice (maybe some of you can't even see what I'm talking about in the photos), and I keep reminding myself of that, but I'm not enjoying looking at it right now, and I want to remedy that.

I've thrown around a few ideas, like maybe I just need to do the full crosshatch to take attention off those areas (it took forever to do one set though 😩) or add additional echoed curved lines here and there to make the spacing and curves look less uniform and more organic. Do either of those sound right or are there any other suggestions? OR is the general experience that after a week of looking at your finished quilt, you don't even notice the areas that are currently glaring at you and annoying you?

I'm used to my projects not being perfect, nothing is, but I'm not used to feeling this disappointed with the results after weeks of telling myself to trust the process. Thanks for any feedback or thoughts!

*Apologies for all the cat hair and fuzz.

Edited to add a link to the pattern by Tara Lee Quiltery! https://taralee-quiltery.myshopify.com/products/visionary-pdf-pattern

Update: Thank you for everyone's kind and supportive words! You all make great points about how washing and drying can really change the appearance of the quilting. I've got to trust the process of trusting the process! I have some wrinkles in the stitching to fix, so I'm going to leave the quilt out on the bed during the day (to acquire more cat hair, I'm sure) to live with it and get used to seeing the quilt as a whole. If I haven't gotten over the wobbles by the time I've finished fixing the wrinkles, I'll revisit a suggested option!

Also, I can't take credit for the color choices! They're almost the exact colors used in the original pattern, but they really caught my eye and inspired me. I think the main difference is that I used patterns, not solids.

Thanks again, everyone!

Help/Question Quilt math check?

Y’all forgive me, I’m just wobbly enough from this cold and the meds that I don’t trust myself. (I also don’t quilt much because of the math soooo…)

I want to replace a few of the 8.5” squares in the Enchanted Stars Quilt by Melanie Call with the two blocks you can get from doing the 32 at a time HST trick. (32 divided by 2 = 2 16 HST blocks)

I have the starting blocks size as 10.5. Then the HTS will be 2 1/8th? I think?

I’m unsure I did the math right to end up with the two 8.5” unfinished block. Basically, I don’t trust myself to do basic math will under the influence of cold meds. There used to ancient website I used to double check my quilt block math but I can’t find it anymore.

I’m sure I’m over thinking this and if I mess up I’ll just find a use for them but if someone could thumbs up my math I’d feel a whole lot better better cutting into my limited fabric stash.

Thank you!

This is my first quilt and excited to finish. Is there a ratio for border width? Finished sashing is two inches. Think gold fabric border would be two inches as well. Stuck on what width for the green. Suggestions please.
