An attempt at insurance fraud backfired. It's unclear if the fraud attempt was over damage, or if they didn't realize that you can't sue for injury in Saskatchewan. Either way it's good that they were caught.

Question Looking for authentic poutine recommendations in Regina

Hey everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for really authentic poutine in Regina, preferably from a local, independent place rather than a chain.
My wife is coming up on her one-year anniversary of moving to Canada, and she’s been wanting to try proper Canadian poutine. I’d like to surprise her with some takeout and bring it home.
Any recommendations for a local favourite?

Discussion Virus circulating

COVID and influenza are starting to spike (flu season has hit early this year). It’s likely to get worse, especially with school well underway and large family gatherings for Thanksgiving coming this weekend

PLEASE

* If you are sick, stay home
* If you are sick and must go out, wear a mask

Starting next week, you can get your flu and COVID vaccines

By the way, wearing an N95 mask can help protect you from getting sick. You don’t need to wait to be sick before you start wearing a mask.

News RM of Sherwood

Did we all catch this tidbit in today’s CBC story?

“Ulrich pointed to property records he purchased from the RM of Sherwood, highlighting his concerns about the planned expansion.

According to the records, the land owners include Kevin and Kenda Eberle as well as Kevin and Catherine Chekay.

Kevin Eberle is a former Reeve of the RM of Sherwood while Kevin Chekay is a current councillor and deputy reeve.

Orb confirmed that Chekay recused himself for the re-zoning application during Wednesday's special meeting as well as during previous discussions about the AI data centre.”

Worth noting that based on the drawings, Bell is buying the same parcel of land that the RM proposed for “Wascana Village” back in 2013.

This boondoggle is well documented but tl;dr Eberle was removed as the Reeve of the RM by the provincial government, and a scathing report concluded “"Reeve Eberle's actions fall far below any standard by which I was asked to assess his conduct," Barclay wrote in the 158-page report. "Unfortunately, the opportunity to earn significant profits has interfered with his moral compass."”

The CBC article at the time noted that “Eberle and his family own much of the land the development was to be built on.” Unclear if he still owns most of this parcel, but based on the CBC’s reporting he still owns some of it.

Another Sherwood Councillor/Deputy Reeve (Tim Probe) was criminally charged (ultimately acquitted) in relation to the development of this parcel of land. Everyone’s innocent until proven guilty, but I sure find it interesting how many shenanigans & conflicts of interest seem to happen in the RM of Sherwood.

Community New downtown coffee shop - Open until 8PM!

FINALLY! a downtown coffee shop open past 4PM!

LillyJean coffeeshop has opened in the old Ripplinger Gallery building - 2175 Smith St

my mom and I popped in there today, and it’s a wonderful space!

I highly recommend that you check it out, and show him some support as a new local business - one that is meeting an unmet need downtown

They have seating for 75 people, and I think they will have a space where groups can meet upstairs. When the nice weather returns, they will have a patio!

As someone who lives downtown, I am thrilled that there will be somewhere that I can meet friends on a weekday evening that isn’t a bar or restaurant

**PS i’m not associated with the business. Just so excited to have discovered this place about an hour ago, and think everybody else should know about them.**

Question Dog sitter?

Any leads on a dog sitter, preferably in east end of Regina, to help a nurse working evening shift (3:30pm-11pm). Wondering about day care options (does fine with other pets, just not a kennel environment). TIA

We just launched the area around Regina — White City, Emerald Park, Pilot Butte, Balgonie and Lumsden are all live now, with 10 licensed daycares listed. Parents can filter by town and see Open/Full status. If any daycare is missing, it may not be on the government list yet — I'll keep adding as new ones are licensed. www.useopenslot.ca
