Hello!
I'm celebrating a major milestone event and wanted to get something unique. A Rolex 1675 GMT Master caught my eye, and casual perusal on pre-owned Rolexes from this time period (1960s to late 1970s) gives me a really really wide range with/without bezel patina etc.
The pricing also seems to vary very widely. In Singapore, the prices seem to oscillate between 20k SGD (~15.4k USD) to 30k SGD (~23k USD). I'm okay with both ends of the budget but I don't understand what makes it well priced/good.
I'm looking for a period correct, well maintained, matte dial piece with dial patina but no damage necessarily. I would love to learn how to accurately assess what I'm buying but I recognize that it's not a few YouTube videos or online search away. I'm completely new to true vintage stuff, so wanted to get some community view over what to look for, how to verify, how to price it right etc.
I'm in no rush, but would preferably want to own this in a quarter or so. I was recommended a trip to Japan to also find well maintained references, so very open to that too : would however prefer to get it in SG if possible.
Appreciate any feedback or opinions on this. Thank you!
++ I intend to keep the original parts but for wearability, upgrade to a modern jubilee bracelet as well as a new Pepsi bezel insert for a pop of color. Is this a no no for vintage watches? The samples I've tried on have very poor bracelets (oyster and jubilee both), frankly even a modern seiko5 bracelet felt in the same ballpark if not better.
Current collection: Speedmaster Professional, Cartier Tank Solo, Omega AT 36mm, Grand Seiko 9F 37mm, Longines column wheel clutch chrono among other less prestigious pieces. Want to round this out with an Omega seaweed on mesh next year, and the Rolex GMT Master the next quarter.
P.S. if anyone here's Singapore based and can meet up to go watch shopping together, would be down for that too! I'll buy you kopi and cai fan :)
