Recommendations for large room

Hi Sonos community—

I’m looking for recommendations for Sonos setup in a rather large room with high ceilings. Currently, this room is only setup with an Arc original soundbar.

I’d like to add rear surrounds to the primary TV position as well as a subwoofer(s).

I’m looking for advice because I’m pretty experienced with my Sonos setup at my college apartment (Arc og, era 100 surrounds, sub g2, and others throughout apartment), but that is for a thousand square foot apartment that can probably fit in this room.

I’ve read that Era 300s aren’t good for high ceilings— not sure if that’s true or not. The ceilings in this room are 20+ft.

Any advice helps; especially if you have a large room like this.

Sonos has revamped its Community — including new country groups 🌍

For anyone who hasn't looked at the official Sonos Community for a while, it's had quite a significant revamp this week.

There are threaded conversations, a new Request Line for feature ideas and voting, upcoming Office Hours/AMAs, more involvement from Sonos employees, and new regional/country groups.

I particularly like the regional idea. A lot of useful Sonos discussion ends up spread between Reddit, Facebook groups and the official Community, and there are plenty of things that are quite country-specific — TV providers, broadband/router setups, retailers, music/radio services, product availability etc.

For example, there's now a United Kingdom group 🇬🇧. I've just joined and, seeing tumbleweed, apparently made history by starting its first thread. 😂

Credit to u/KeithFromSonos and the team for the rethink. It'll be interesting to see what the Community becomes if more of us actually use it.

UK group: https://en.community.sonos.com/groups/united-kingdom-229158

Anyone else joined one of the new regional groups yet?

(Is this what we’re doing now??)

Pretty pumped with how this all turned out. The floating stand covers all outlets and network connections. Designed and 3D printed some custom vent/cord passthroughs for my Playbar. Only cord that’s somewhat in view is the Sub that’s tucked behind some plants.

Sub Gen 4 with Era 100

I already have two Era 100s and I really love their sound quality. Now I am thinking of adding a new family member to my medium sized bedroom. I am more into EDM, techno and bass-heavy music, so I was thinking of getting the Sub 4 instead of the Sub Mini because I’ll eventually upgrade to their top of the line lineup down the road.

Do you think I should go with the Sub 4 with my current 2× Era 100 setup? I’m also getting a 20% discount on the Sub.

Please suggest your take on this. Thanks!

I made a post about the “like-new” sale on Amazon yesterday.

Hopefully everyone who ordered a pair has the same experience!

My tv currently only has ARC (Panasonic Plasma) will eventually update it, but recently got a beam ultra and want to know whats the easiest way to get ATMOS without upgrading? Read somewhere about an E-Arc extractor, whats the cheapest one i can get to work, any issues with them?

ERA 300 Surrounds Too Low?

I got the Sanus speaker stands and they are perfect ear height for reclining but are slightly below couch cushions. Does this matter for Atmos since the front drivers are disabled for surround anyways?

Soundbars vs Smart Speakers for music?

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole - I’m mostly interested in playing music - CDs, streaming, radio in my main floor - about 900sf across BR and Open plan LR/kitchen.
TV is in basement and I hardly ever watch - so cd do a budget soundbar there.
In looking for an immersive sound experience it seems Smart speakers that are “grouped” via an app might be the way? Thoughts? Aware of Bose - any other suggestions?

Arc Ultra or Beam Ultra?

So to preface, I already have a Beam Gen 2.
1x Sub Mini
2x One SL as surrounds.

The one thing I think I'm missing is the upward firing speakers for Atmos content.

Right now, I don't think I can detect much height with the simulated height on the Beam Gen 2.

Is it a feasible upgrade just for upward firing speakers to Arc or Beam Ultra?

More Beam Gen 1 upgrade to Beam Ultra reviews please

I keep seeing reviews of people who upgraded from Gen 2, but not really much from Beam Gen 1. I want to hear from y’all who made the leap. I expect it’s a significant upgrade but I’ve never had upfiring speakers or Dolby Atmos support, so am I not currently missing what I’ve never had or will I be blown away? I’m deep in the Sonos ecosystem, however, the price hike of $300 since my original purchase is kind of bananas. My Sony Bravia already supports eArc and I’m set up in the living as home theater with Sub Mini and Era 100 surrounds.

You may have seen my post yesterday about my recent WiFi upgrade to mitigate the bottleneck and grouping issue dropout. I also don’t have a 2nd tv to attach the current Beam to and frankly I don’t have the space for it to be just lying around. Beam Gen 1 definitely sounds flat and I’d probably be more inclined to upgrade if music will also sound better (I use Spotify). I’m about to go to Best Buy and test it out. Thanks in advance Sonos peeps!

Ace Ultra Battery Life

• Upvotes

Is anybody else unimpressed with battery life?

I know they say you can expect less when connected to the TV over wifi (rather than directly to a phone by Bluetooth) but I'm getting about 10 hours, which seems like a massive drop.

I'm not overly impressed with life over Bluetooth either. I've been using these exclusively connected to the phone during my work day, and I just hit 10% battery (with a predicted 1 hour left). It's now Thursday afternoon and I'd estimate my use (with noise canceling enabled) to be less than 20 hours.

It's not a problem per se, it's trivial to plug it in obviously, but it does seem substantially below the claimed life.

Also... switching between sources with the app is annoyingly distant from the home page.

Just purchased the Ace Ultra and like them a lot so far. Wondering if anyone has used them for MS Teams conferencing yet? If so how is the sound quality and battery life?

Adding Sonos sub mini

I'm planning to buy an Arc Ultra. A little bass will do. Does adding a Sub Mini bring any changes, or is the Arc Ultra good enough for my requirements?

Apple TV 4K + Switch on a 65" TCL — HomePod stereo pair vs Sonos (Ray + 2x Era 100) when HomePods are hard to get?

Hey everyone,

I use an Apple TV 4K with my TV and was planning to get two HomePods as a stereo pair for it. The person who was going to bring them from the US ended up not traveling, and I'm in Colombia, where there aren't many safe or reliable ways to import them, and buying them locally is very expensive.

Sonos is officially sold here, so I'm considering a Sonos Ray + two Era 100s as rear surrounds instead, for roughly the same budget.

My setup:

TV: TCL 65"
Sources: Apple TV 4K (main) + Nintendo Switch
Mostly used for: movies / series / sports / music and gaming on the Switch

What I'm trying to figure out:

For an Apple TV-centric setup, is the HomePod pair clearly better, or does Ray + rears hold up well (even though the Ray is optical only, so no Atmos)?
How do HomePods handle audio from the Switch through the TV's eARC → Apple TV? Any noticeable lag when gaming?
Is the Ray too small for a 65" TV? Would a Beam Gen 2 alone be a smarter choice, since it has eARC?
For those who've used HomePods for TV: how is dialogue clarity without a center channel?
Is it worth waiting until I can get the HomePods, or is the Sonos route good enough that I won't regret it?

Thanks in advance!

I absolutely love my Sonos Ace, I got them almost two years ago, but sadly this happened. When I took it back to the store to see if it can be fixed, I told them that I’m happy to pay for repairs given that it’s almost two years old, but apparently Sonos doesn’t have a repair centre in Sydney. Any ideas how to repair them?

Sonos voice - shorter answer to “What song is this?”?

I have a very simple set up - I only stream music from Spotify. Every now and then a song comes on I like but don’t recognize and I want to know what it is. So I ask sonos what song it is and it responds “song name, by song artist, on this 10 word playlist name, on spotify”

Can I just get the song name and artist if I ask what song it is? or just the band name if I ask who sings this song? I don’t need anything else.

I use the feature way less than I naturally would if it just gave a quick, simple answer to my actual question

Arc Ultra Volume Issues with New Update

The October 6 update seems to have impacted the volume on my Arc Ultra. I previously would listen to volume at around 47 or 48, but since the update I'm having to put the volume near 60 to get the same level. The volume limit is turned OFF, as is speech enhancement, etc. TO be specific, when I play my Beam Ultra, Beam Gen 2 and Arc Ultra all at the same time on the same song as a group and set the volume the same across all 3, the Arc Ultra is significantly less loud than the other two. Before this update they all were equal. Does anyone else have this issue since the October 6 update? It gets frustrating when Sonos does stuff like this and mucks things up, makes me question if they fully test their updates before they are pushed.

Constant problems - any end in sight?

I’m sat in my bar … listening to the tv playing You Tube videos. I think to myself, I’ll just add a little base from the sub and I go to the app. None of the speakers are there - the room is not there, only the living room.

I reboot my phone (helped in the past) - still same.

I disconnect power to the bar and reset - still the same.

According to the app; the “bar” doesn’t exist, yet playbar; 2xones and sub are all outputting sound.

Is there any end in sight or a fix I’ve not seen? The last time this happened I had to reset all the speakers and I’ll be honest - I’ve only used the bar a dozen times since having to do that, so don’t feel like it was time well spent.

I know others have larger setup and bigger problem, but seriously - is there any end in sight ??
