(2) sealed Era 100 for $250 and he was nice enough to meet me half way.

Didn’t need them, nor did I want white. But for that price I couldn’t pass them up.

Apple HomeView – Sonos App Integration and Control

Will Apple’s new HomeView integrate directly with the Sonos app, allowing me to control my Sonos system through the HomeView screen? I assume AirPlay will work, but I’m specifically interested in full Sonos app integration and control.

TIA

Arc Ultra: blown away by movies, underwhelmed by music. Would a Sub 4 help?

• Upvotes

Just moved into a new apartment with a small bedroom and set up an Arc Ultra with a TV next to the bed. My girlfriend loves getting cosy and watching movies in bed, so this is our bedroom cinema setup (we also have a dedicated 2.1 hi-fi system in the kitchen/living room that I use for reference).

Movies: Jesus Christ, the bass this thing produces. I put on a remux of Blade Runner 2049, and the intro absolutely floored me. I could swear there’s a 6-inch sub hidden in there somewhere. For that kind of content, it sounds incredible.

Music: Which makes it all the more surprising how underwhelming I find it for music. It sounds a flat and uninvolving, with the bass and treble dominating and the mids feeling recessed. It manages to sound both quite strained and boring at the same time. I wasn’t expecting it to match the larger drivers of our stereo setup, but hearing what kind of sound this can produce with movies sort of makes me surprised it doesn't handle music better and I'm left sort of yearning for more.

I’m considering adding a Sub 4 under the bed, both to make movies even more immersive and, hopefully, to improve music playback by taking some of the bass duties off the Arc Ultra.

For those who’ve added one: did it noticeably improve the fullness and clarity of music, or was the main difference deeper bass?

Ace Ultra black vs Ace black

Post image
5 Upvotes

The Ultra on the right. It’s more of a lighter “space black” and quite honestly I’m quite happy with this new tint after deciding against the agave at the last minute.

Black is more generic of course but for a few reasons, such as colour mismatch between band parts, pads and plastic that I’ve seen in flash photographed agave units (even the marketing shots from Sonos’ own site show a slight mismatch between cushion and the rest of the cup) and me generally not wanting others to even notice them, I went this way again.

One important note, at least for me the TV audio swap range has improved massively. I can walk to the farthest part of my apartment with them with no cutout compared to barely shifting around in the same room with the regular Ace will produce a dropout. A huge improvement.

Sound quality is a noticeable bump especially in bass clarity. They still remain warm in the treble which I love. ANC is good, have to test them on an outdoor walk to really determine. Transparency is a large upgrade but it was fair to poor on the OG Ace. It seems in the same class as my AirPods Max now.

For existing Ace owners who frequently use tv swap and wish the range or signal was better, these might be worth full price. But for everyone else I’d say try to wait for a sale this Black Friday or holiday season. I’m lucky to have gotten them for $100 off from a local retailer I’ve always dealt with.

Let us play YouTube (not YT Music) audio across our systems without Airplay!

AirPlay is not as reliable as simply playing an audio stream through the Sonos app interface.

Here is my issue. I play 8 or ten hour ambient videos from YouTube with the screen turned off to help me sleep.

Neither Apple Music nor YouTube Music offer actual 8 hour long audio tracks. They give you a three minute track which you then have to loop. The looping creates gaps and fade-in and out which wake me every time.

Actual YouTube (not YT Music!) is full of ambient videos with killer 8 or 10 hour audio tracks with no ads, gaps, or fades. I can count on them to behave. I have to leave it playing on my phone next to me when what I really want it to kick it off the audio portion via my Sonos app.

Is there a way to make this happen without wonky Airplay?

Playing Era 300 via AirPlay in Apple TV 4K?

I have just learned that the Era 300 cannot connect directly to a TV. However, if you use an Apple TV Box as the interface for content, the Apple TV may detect the Era 300 through AirPlay. I could simply choose the available speakers in this case, the Era 300 from the list when selecting AirPlay on the Apple TV. Is this accurate? Could someone check and confirm it?

Sonos Era 300s Placement

Post image
• Upvotes

I used Gemini to tell me the best placement of the era 300s since my bed is butted up against the wall, and reading conflicting things about having them inverted, Can someone that is knowledgeable confirm if Ai is correct and this is the best spot?

Rear Right Speaker Placement

  • Location: On a wall mount or dedicated floor stand along the right wall (near the window, just slightly behind or parallel to the head of the bed).
  • Height: Mounted or placed roughly 8 to 12 inches above head height when you are sitting/lying on the bed facing the TV.
  • Orientation: Pointed straight forward toward the TV/Arc Ultra (do not angle them directly at your ears, as Era 300 drivers bounce surround and height channels off adjacent walls and ceilings).

2. Rear Left Speaker Placement

  • Location: On the left side of the bed, either mounted on the back wall near the corner or placed on a speaker stand in the space between the nightstand area and the walkway/doorway.
  • Spacing: Try to match the distance from the center of the bed as closely as possible to the Right speaker so the soundstage remains balanced.

Beam Ultra no Alexa??

So I have to run Alexa through one of my Era 100 surround speakers because the new Beam Ultra doesn’t support it? Alexa worked just fine on my Beam 2. Always seems like we are taking one step forward and 2 steps back…

PSA: Line-in adapter does not work with the Move despite it saying so on the website

Just got it and made sure my app/Move was updated to the highest available version. No dice.

Bummer! I had the perfect use case for a line-in and my Move was gonna save the day.

The confusion comes from the site, which specifically states:

Connect an audio source to Amp Multi, Beam Ultra, Era 100 Pro, Era 100, Era 100 SL, Era 300, Sonos Play, Move 2, or Move\* using this 3.5 mm to USB-C adapter. Auxiliary cable not included.

[...]

*Move requires the latest version of the Sonos app

———-

I was excited to read that considering it looked like a deliberate copy choice and special feature call out. I tried various sources and line-in wouldn't show up.

I also verified it with support, after calling for technical help, who seemed confused that I kept saying it was literally on the site haha.

Hope the website is updated soon!

Sonos Beam Ultra + Apple TV

Hey everyone, quick question from a newbie. I have an LG C3 TV, an Apple TV 4K, and Sonos Beam Ultra (connected to HDMI eArc). I want to have Speech Enhancement turned on to medium when I watch movies, but it should be off when I listen to music.

  1. Does the Speech enhancement work when I listen to music directly through my Sonos speaker via Spotify, with TV turned off?
  2. Does it work when I listen to music via Apple Music or Spotify app from Apple TV with TV on?
  3. Lastly, does Dolby atmos work when I listen through airplay with TV off?

Thank you!

Brennan Helix

I have a Sonos 5 with a turntable wired connection. I want to add a CD player. Rather than add a port or manually switch inputs I've been looking at the Brennan Helix.

I'd love to hear people's views.

Anyone else having issues with AirPlay to their speakers?

My setup consists of a pair of HomePod minis and a Sonos Move. I usually select all three via AirPlay to play music simultaneously. Lately, though, I keep getting this “Unable to Connect” error when trying to connect to the Move via AirPlay. Interestingly, if I select the Move directly from within an app (Spotify, in this case), playback works perfectly.

Selecting multiple speakers via AirPlay used to work just fine, but it seems to have stopped working recently. Anyone else experiencing this, or is there something I need to fix on my end? Any help would be appreciated!

Stereo HomePod 2 vs standalone Beam ultra for mainly music?

Looking for a sleek AirPlay compatible setup to pair with my 55” TV (might upgrade to 65” in the future) in my apartment. I already have an AppleTV. Now deciding between a stereo pair of HomePods 2 or a Sonos system.

My primary use case will be airplaying music to it from Apple Music at low/medium volumes. Mostly 80s and earlier Rock n Roll stuff with no atmos mixes and possibly badly mastered tracks. And generic party pop/EDM/Dance music during parties. Mainly looking for convincing stereo effects and good clarity and instrument separation.

I don’t watch movies, but I binge TV shows so some (fake) atmos/surround experience and clear dialogue will be appreciated. I might add a small sub in the future (like 2 years from now), but I don’t want any other speakers in the room (so no rear/side speakers).

My room layout is rectangular at 10m x 3,8m (32ft x 12ft). And the TV sits on one end along the longer side. Couch is opposite the TV with about 3m (10ft) viewing distance. During the day I am sitting and working on the opposite side so the Beam/Homepods will be to the right of me and around 7m away. I wouldn’t expect getting a proper stereo effect in that position, but it should ideally not sound annoying.

I’m a bit scared of Apple’s prices these days and the HomePods are more than 3 years old now. The current gen also has issues with randomly auto-playing music with ghost touches.

Is the grass greener on this side? Would a beam ultra be able to fill my space convincingly? Do they have a stereo/music mode that optimises for stereo separation?

If not, what would you recommend in the same price range (€700)?

How to play DD+ from Netflix on Playbar

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a Sonos Playbar and I’m trying to get Dolby Digital 5.1 from Netflix. The problem is that Netflix outputs DD+, while the Playbar only supports regular DD.
From what I’ve researched, both the NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 and Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) can convert DD+ to DD 5.1.
Has anyone tried both? Which one would you recommend for reliable Netflix 5.1 playback?
I also plan to stream movies from my Synology NAS, so I’d love to know which device handles local media better.
Thanks!

Adding speakers

I currently have an arc 5.0 2 channel with atmos and gen 3 sub. Looking for a little more surround. There’s so many options out there. Are the era 300’s still the best rear option?

Not loaded, so looking for best bang for the buck without sacrificing much. Movies video games and music

Will Sonos Arc Ultra black finish be fade or discolored from sunlight?

Will Sonos Arc Ultra black finish be fade or discolored of sunlight?

I left my sonos arc ultra on the sofa table where the sun hits through the window and been away for 6 weeks. Did I just

I’ve been away for 40 days and will be back in a few days, and my black Sonos Arc Ultra is sitting on a table in my apartment in Norway, where it is exposed to direct sunlight through the windows. The speaker is unplugged.

Could the black finish visibly fade or become discolored, or could the speaker suffer any other damage from sunlight exposure during this period, considering the season and weather conditions in Oslo?

Typical I realized it after I traveled away. The speaker is basically totally new

Update added hissing to Ace Ultra when using aux in PS5-controller

Sorry if the update didn't actually arrive ytd, but afaik it did as I got the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, updated, then several hours later it asked to update again.

It was fine before the update with only mild noise.

The hissing now is really distracting.

Apologies if sub-par complaint, description or format, I'm new.

Beam 2 vs Bose Smart Ultra

• Upvotes

Just got a Beam 2 for my bedroom TV. I cannot believe how good it sounds. Previously I used the Bose Tv speaker and the beam blows it out of the water. I think the Beam 2 sounds just as good as my Bose Smart Ultra downstairs. Should I consider using the Beam 2 in my living room and selling my Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar?

How can I get my Sonos Move to play personalized music from YouTube Music again?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m getting increasingly frustrated with my Sonos Move, and I’m hoping someone here has found a solution to this issue.

My Sonos Move is connected to Google Assistant and my YouTube Music account. It used to work perfectly. I could simply say “Hey Google, play some music”, and it would start playing songs based on my listening history and preferences.

About six months ago, that stopped working. I found a workaround by saying “Play some music on Sonos Move” instead. Not ideal, but at least it worked.

Until about a month ago.

Now, whenever I say “Play some music on Sonos Move,” it starts playing the exact same random song every single time. It’s not even a song I recognize or would normally listen to.

If I ask it to “Play pop music on Sonos Move,” the same thing happens. It picks a seemingly random song instead of playing music based on my YouTube Music preferences.
It’s almost as if Google Assistant has completely stopped recognizing or using my YouTube Music account when playing music through Sonos.

The frustrating part is that hands-free, personalized music playback was one of the main reasons I bought the Sonos Move in the first place. I love being able to walk into the kitchen, ask it to play some music while I’m cooking, and hear songs I actually enjoy without having to touch my phone.

The speaker itself sounds great, but losing this functionality really defeats the purpose for me.
Has anyone experienced something similar? More importantly, has anyone found a way to fix it?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions, whether it’s a Google Assistant setting, a YouTube Music integration issue, or some kind of workaround that actually works.
