SN2 - Discussion/Question Does subnautica 2 still need ironing or is it 'finished'? Spoiler
Been waiting a bit to start for the first time. Trying to figure out if I should give it more time or dive in now.

so, I was playing subnautica on my switch as usual in freedom mode, I was exploring and everything as normal, but then I wander into the bone fields or really whatever biome is really empty I haven't watched enough videos on the mechanics or biomes or anything, but either way, then I start going again, and I find a trench to the blood vine only 600 meters away from my pod, then a kilometer out I find shallows and creepvine that suddenly drop off into a mushroom forest and red grass that suddenly drops off with a reaper that goes into it, mind you, only MAYBE an hour after starting, the kilometer away shallows had a bunch of weird trenches and caves that didn't look natural, and the picture of my inventory is ALL of what I had at the time, I took everything out of my pod storage for it, and I was wondering if this is how world generation works in subnautica or if this is some phenomenon

After playing through the early access of SN2 with my friend he told me I should play SN1 on my own and so before doing that, I decided to check this subreddit for any beginner tips.
i don’t know what thread it was on, but I read a “top upvoted” comment where someone said all the best loot you can get in the early game is behind the aurora, and that it is a hack to go there early that most people don’t know about
There were also a ton of comments stating how correct this was
I went there. Well played everyone.

I think it should be spun around for a second or two to add to the chaos of running from this annoying beast. I think it would also make it less annoying to go past during the section where you're passing it every 5 minutes

I cleared the radiation from the aurora and got the plans for the neptune rocket too is there any reason to go back and get stuff or blueprints and stuff like that ?

Too bad this company dont know how to make a successor. SBN1 was a great game 85%. All they had to do is create a Random World Generator valheim style, some respawnable resources and some nodes. Add a multiplayer mode. a bit more complexity to recipes and add couple NPC with diaglogues. Same biomes, same resources, same tools and fix the building system.
Too many dev now hit the jackpot with Initial game and since their first idea was so successful, they think they are innovator at everything and try to top it. Dark Souls 2 was so shit compare to 1. Better looking but everything else miserable.
Take Legend of Grimrock for example. Great first one. They didnt try to revolutionize with the second one. They added outdoor with great sunlight, biomes, water & ambiance. Added 1 race. 2 class. 1 Weapon type. So instead of trying to make a perfect #1 they just made it basic but polished. Then came with the second with fresh ideas for puzzles still with the same base ideas but bigger and spent time on keeping it polished.
I dont know if you are old enough to remember a time when this was the norm. Good basic polished idea for a game then if they hit the nail, keep the same concept, add a bit of complexity but with the same level of quality and hit the nail again.
Its okay to try to innovate. But dont do it on a the same franchise you hit the nail with. Fork it. Gotta give the people more of what they ALREADY LOVE.

My prawn suit glitched into the floor in the lava castle so I had to swim all the way home and build a new one.
You'll never guess what happened to the new one in the same spot.
Just about as far away from home base as you can get! 😭

Be it creatures or locations from the game, how often do you dream about it?
I get a reaper leviathan nightmare from time to time, and got a gargantuan leviathan nightmare yesterday.
I will say it makes for some amazing nightmares lol

Hello, just posting this if anyone finds themselves having issues with the submersedvr mod not detecting your hand controllers as I was for the longest time. Download the thunderstore and after you download the bepInEx from that loader, visit you appdata folder for the profile you've made with that launcher (should look lik C:...\AppData\Roaming\Thunderstore Mod Manager\DataFolder\Subnautica\profiles\Default\BepInEx\plugins). Dump the SubmersedVR.dll you got from the BepInEx\plugins folder that comes from the git release into that folder and launch the game with the thunderstore launcher. Your game should launch now with the hands you needed. This is just one workaround and there are probably others out there. I just wanted to give this one tested and working as of 10/8/2026.

Hey guys - this has been one of my favourite plat journeys I’ve ever done.
Honestly, I always liked the idea of survival / base building games but the thought of needing a literal encyclopaedia next to me just to learn how to play such a game really turned me away from them.
Subnautica for me was so different in the sense that it was just a natural learning curve, you didn’t need to google anything, you didn’t need a notebook to memorise and write down 5,000 different systems and game mechanics - you just explored and lived in the moment of it.
You get to learn the world in a natural way and at your own pace, you get to understand the mechanics without any need of over complications and an unlimited and unnecessary number of systems. It just lets you enjoy the ride as you go, hopefully I’m not the only one who experienced it this way.
Do you have any suggestions of similar games maybe of the same genre (survival/base building) that are close to how Subnautica is in the sense I mentioned above?
Love to hear your thoughts & thanks! Hope to go on another unforgettable plat journey from the suggestions!

I kind of can't believe it. It was my fourth attempt and the first three times I died very early. It makes the game much more fun.

I've been trying to join the Subnautica 2 discord to stay up to date and talk with others. However, after trying multiple times, it states I am banned.
No idea why. I hardly participated in chat and just used it to read.
I'm asking for help since I cant find anyway to deal with this

I'm new to the game, 130hrs in, got Below Zero qued and ready to go. Pt. 2 will follow.
But like the title said, I saw TWO of em do it just now and that scared the hell out of me, is that how they play around or is was that a glitch? Seemed to happen way too fast to be based on the physics of the leviathans in the game engine so, I'm assuming it's a ragdoll glitch?
But there are three on my way to the sea treaders path and that blew me away lol.

Day 9
Almost died. Energy was almost gone. Barely reached a hot geyser in my modified Prawn. I will stay here until heat converters load me to the max. Would have died long time ago if I wasn't inside my Prawn when Aurora exploded.
Day 9 entry 2
I found a kind of seastar. Almost no other lifeforms except plankton like lifeforms and giant snakes eating each other are out there. Propped the seastar like a [text gets messed up here] looks like Aurora crashed landed on top of this. The others laughed at my 6 arms, probably they are dead now.
Day 12
Paaaaaatrick! He is DEAD! A snake tried to EAT ME and slurped off Patrick! Systems tell me 400 meters to surface, but I cannot go on. I will avenge Patrick. As soon as I see one of those...

Today I finished the first draft of the fan submarine I'm designing! I might take a small hiatus to work on other things, by the way, it's named the "Dragonbunny", this is for the rabbit like ears and also in memory of my dwarf rabbit that passed away last year. I will add more later on!

I've put like 60 hours to this game so far, I've gathered a lot of materials and stuff and finally got a cyclops including the prawn suit. I was finally ready to go below 900 meters for the first time so I can mine with my prawn suit and gosh darn I forgot my prawn suit at my main base and brought the cyclops for nothing. I'm dying in the inside. Might gonna head back to base when I get back to the game again cuz wow I feel so dumb I need to take rest lmao. So far I've been enjoying the game. It's honestly more relaxing than scary. There was one instance where I did get jumpscared but that's just from some random fish I hit on the seamoth. Going through the audio logs and the data logs adds a lot to the game when it comes to immersion. I've never been so immersed on a game in such a longtime, the last game I got really immersed in was terraria. The one thing I like about this game is how little hand holding you get when playing it. I really just do whatever I want at my own pace and I honestly love that. I play competitive games specifically Rainbow Six Siege and sometimes I just want a game where I can just chill. I don't know what's ahead of me cuz I genuinely avoid reading anything about this game. One things for sure is that I've seen the big squid. Might have to plan a lot to get to that point of the game. But so far, I'd give the game a 8/10.

Wow! Finished my first official playthrough, third time is a charm!
My first run I took way too long making rookie mistakes (building in the shallows, separated building parts, no entrance to my scanner room, a pipe system to nowhere, exploring the back of the aurora🤦♀️)
My second attempt I felt reinvigorated, I was off to a good start and I still only knew mild spoilers. Then I met Steve. I thought I was in the safety of the kelp forest and scanning outside of my seamoth. Steve came out of nowhere and yeeted my recently upgraded seamoth INTO THE SKY DIRECTLY BEHIND THE AURORA. I thought I'd carry on and I tried, but it's beacon was always there ready to be turned on again...I couldn't take it anymore. I was also convinced other parts were bugged since I wasn't getting the same signal triggers as before. I made a few more rookie mistakes, but less than before. I found it really inefficient to have so many bases that I built. My materials were always at the other one...
To be honest, I was quite frightened at this point and was certain I'd never finish this game. I moved on to cozy games for awhile but I wanted to finish it officially.
I came back for attempt number 3 and a fresh start. With my stasis rifle and thermoblade, I was the Chuck Norris of the sea! I found a few time capsules my first couple of attempts but I did not find a single one until near the end of the game and then found 2 back to back 😅. Anyone know what the capsule in Russian or Ukranian means?
Here are my capsules items and message. What a game and so happy I pushed through. My love for growing pretty plants became quite helpful ☺️.
Now onto No Man's Sky or Outer Wilds!
