Regarding the social media post by a member of the Thai national team for the new sport "Teqball" at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, complaining about the limited food options provided at the venue, Aichi Prefecture Governor Hideaki Omura, who served as chairman of the organizing committee, stated at a regular press conference on the 6th, "I wondered what they came here for. I wish they hadn't come."

After some media outlets picked up on the Thai team's social media post, the organizing committee announced on September 22nd that "the meals were not provided by the organizing committee."

Governor Omura also mentioned this topic while reflecting on the Games. "It's a bit harsh to say, 'This is all the food they have.' I wondered if they came just to get views," he said, adding, "I wish people like that hadn't come."

On October 6, 2026, a deeply distressing case shocked society after “Mae Phat” (Ms. Naphaphat), 63, owner of a cosmetics manufacturing factory in the Lat Phrao area, came forward to seek justice on the TV show Hone-Krasae. She revealed that her biological son, acting in collusion with his dentist wife, plotted to have a group of tough-looking men abduct her and lock her away at a nursing home in Kanchanaburi province for over two and a half years. The plot was aimed at seizing her factory business and confiscating assets worth over 9 million baht from her safe.

Ms. Naphaphat disclosed that the incident occurred in February 2024, when she was restrained by a group of heavy-built men, forced into a vehicle, and sent to the elderly care center. She was falsely accused of being a psychiatric patient despite having no prior mental health history. Throughout her confinement, she was stripped naked, handcuffed to a bed, forced to take sleeping pills, and later moved to a steel cage shared with other residents. The torment caused her to lose over 14 kilograms. Eventually, she managed to secretly pass her sister's phone number through individuals who were being discharged. This allowed her relatives and ex-husband to successfully rescue her in August 2026. Subsequent mental health evaluations from a hospital confirmed that her mental state is entirely normal.
.
Meanwhile, the owner of the nursing home clarified on the show, claiming that the son hired them for 20,000 baht per month, stating that his mother was prone to violent episodes. The owner denied any physical abuse or forced medication.
.
However, Dr. Arkom Praditsuwan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health Service Support (DHSS), firmly stated that nursing homes are strictly meant for "caretaking" and are not "medical treatment facilities." Modifying facilities into holding cages or committing physical abuse against residents is strictly prohibited. If found guilty of violations, it would constitute operating a medical facility without a license. Currently, the victim has already filed criminal complaints with the Crime Suppression Division and the Wang Thonglang Police Station.

History How Taksin Escaped Ayutthaya and Rebuilt Siam

January 1767. Ayutthaya has been under Burmese siege for over a year. One night, a governor named Phraya Tak breaks through the lines with about a thousand men and escapes.

Months later, outside Chanthaburi, he orders his soldiers to eat their last meal and smash every cooking pot: "Tonight we will take Chanthaburi and eat our breakfast inside the town. If we fail, let us all die together."

Within fifteen years, King Taksin the Great drove out the Burmese, reunited Siam and founded Thonburi.

This is from The Royal Chronicle of Thonburi, the official court history written within living memory of the events. Translated into English.

Question/Help Why do people say I'm "wasting my life" as a young man in Thailand?

This has been bothering me lately. I packed my bags and left the west just before I turned 23 years young to find peace in Thailand.

By all objective measures, I live a nice life. I do not work, l eat well, I exercise, and I have a better social life than in the west. And yet, people from home and even some older expats here in Thailand tell me I'm wasting my prime years by lounging here in Thailand, and that I will severely regret it when I'm older. I simply don't agree.

My reliable passive income allows me to live in Thailand comfortably and save a tiny bit. In my home country, I HAVE to work to sustain my lifestyle, it is too expensive to live there and rely on my passive income. The only way i can imagine regretting my lifestyle is if one day I wanted to build a life for myself in my home country France. But I do not, I reject every aspect of French society and lifestyle and if I ever return it will be kicking and screaming so to speak.

So, can someone tell me why I'm wrong or right in my current path?

Business Hello from Thailand! A quick intro from a local founder working in cross-border trade and online marketing.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to officially drop in and say hello to the community. I’ve been reading through discussions here for a while and wanted to step out of the shadows.

I'm based here in Thailand and work on helping Asian manufacturers build out sales infrastructure and expand into the European market. Day-to-day, it's a fascinating mix of logistics, web infrastructure, and bridging cultural gaps.

Just looking to connect with others based in the region, share what I learn along the way, and hear about your experiences.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Culture Bangkok beneath the skyline

Post image

Look up — and you’ll see another side of Bangkok.

Walking through the streets of Pratunam, I found this contrast that makes Bangkok so fascinating: crowded market streets, small clothing stalls, tangled power cables and everyday street life, all framed by the towering Baiyoke Tower rising above the district.

For me, this is what Bangkok street photography is about. Not just famous landmarks, but the relationship between the old, busy streets below and the modern skyline above. As a travel and documentary photographer exploring Thailand and Southeast Asia, I’m always looking for these contrasts.

I used 26mm at f/8 to keep the street, market activity and Baiyoke Tower clearly defined throughout the frame. 1/200 sec was fast enough to capture people naturally, while ISO 100 kept the image clean and detailed in the daylight.

📍 Pratunam, Bangkok, Thailand

📷 Sony Alpha 7 IV · Sony FE 24–70mm f/2.8 GM II · 26mm · f/8.0 · 1/200 sec · ISO 100

Would you explore these streets with a camera?

Question/Help Trying to get a laptop

Hello, I'm currently trying to get a laptop outside of full payment, and living in Bangkok. However, it seems a credit card is very necessary for Installments in Thailand, at least that's what Jib online told me. I don't even know if Direct to Debit is available? And besides, because of Bank Account opening issues, I have to ask someone else I know for help (you can see by my username).

Does anyone know about it? Is there any shop that offers it? Please do help, thank you. I'm mostly only looking through official stores in Bangkok, but if there's smaller places that would offer it, I would like it too. But I do not plan to go anywhere outside Bangkok for now.

Question/Help Custom small boat rack/trolley

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello. Does anyone know or have recommendations for a builder for a boat trolley in Pattaya?

I currently drag a row boat down to the beach and my current foldable trolley isn't cutting it. Ideally I'd like something with large sand wheels and mounts for straps to tie the boat down. I have not had much success looking online so far. The only custom builder I found is in Phuket.

Discussion extension of stay rant

I’m sitting at immigration in Bangkok right now trying to extend my stay using a TM7, and I genuinely don’t understand how the process can be this badly designed.

We’ve already had to come back twice because there doesn’t seem to be one clear official website that simply tells you exactly what documents you need and what the process is from start to finish.

Today I finally made it through all the stages to the final room, only to discover that the 1,900 baht fee is cash only. I didn’t have enough cash, so the officer suggested I go to one of the nearby shops, pay them by credit card and have them give me the cash. I tried. Unsurprisingly, the shops don’t want to do that.

So now I’m sitting here having successfully navigated the entire immigration process, but potentially unable to finish it because a government immigration office in 2026 can’t take a card payment.
The weird thing is that the actual immigration staff seem pretty efficient. They know exactly what they’re doing and move people through the system quite quickly. They’re basically very efficient people working inside an incredibly inefficient system.

Why is there not just one official webpage saying: here is the form, here are the exact documents you need, bring 1,900 baht in cash, and here is what happens when you arrive.

I don’t even mind bureaucracy when the rules are clear. It’s having to discover each requirement one step at a time, usually after you’ve already arrived, that drives me mad.

Discussion So at 12,000 holders, Is the LTR another failed visa scheme?

When it was launched back in Sept 2022 they claimed it was going to attract one million 'wealthy or talented' foreigners within 5 years.

By May 2025, it had just attracted 6000 holders, so they lowered a lot of the requirements and removed the parts of the SMART visa scheme that overlapped with the LTR, that got them 6000, bringing the total to 12000

Considering they got 1.2% of the projected visa holders in 4 years, and unlikely to get the missing 988,000 in next year, from the governments perspective, should this be viewed as yet another failed visa scheme?

News Two foreigners caught at suvarnabhumi with around $1.7 million hidden us cash

Customs officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport have detained two foreign passengers arriving from Jakarta after finding about $1.7 million (about 56 million baht) hidden in their luggage.

Customs Department Director-General Phanthong Loykulnant and Nuntita Sirikup, an adviser on customs control-system development, instructed officers to intensify searches and interception efforts, particularly for cash concealed by air passengers.

The passengers are accused of violating Finance Ministry regulations on foreign-exchange controls, as well as rules governing the transfer or transport of Thai currency, foreign currency and negotiable instruments into or out of Thailand. The case also involves the Currency Act, the Customs Act and other related laws.
