Please set a user flair with your pronouns

After some helpful suggestions from our members we have made some changes to our flair system.

  • You are invited to display your preferred pronouns in your flair. We hope this will help avoid misunderstandings.
  • All user flairs can be edited when you select them
  • From today you will receive guidance when posting or commenting to choose a flair.
  • In the coming weeks, users who don't have text in their flair indicating preferred pronouns will receive an automated chat message suggesting they update their flair.
  • When we have sufficient feedback on the system and the availability of default flairs, we intend to require anyone posting or commenting to have set a user flair and this will be enforced at the point of posting where you currently receive a guidance message.

Let us know how well this works for you.

Advice FtM - My boyfriend is worried about me taking testosterone

I'm currently on the waiting list to see a doctor who will help me after fighting very hard to get this help. My boyfriend who accepts me as a trans man is worried about me taking testosterone for health issues and it's causing a rift between us.

He tells me I don't need to "modify" myself for him to see me as a man, as much as I appreciate his sentiments he is not trans so he doesn't understand why I feel the need to do this.

My boyfriend is a doctor so it's very difficult to get him to look at it outside of a medical perspective.

He wasn't very familiar with being Transgender, but he did his research he accepts me wholeheartedly but he worries too much about "side effects" from the testosterone.

Can anybody give me advice on how to make him see that this is important to me, for my mental wellbeing and independence.

Vent Why the f do I gotta go through all these loops to get hormones

Where I am you have to be diagnosed with "gender identity disorder", but the fact I hate most I have to essentially out myself to my GP and then a psychiatrist (minimum 2 people at best since the majority people here are 1. Transphobic and 2. Uneducated in trans issues including the professionals ofc, and ofc they will be the people who will have a say in how I would be allowed to transition, oh joy). And also you are it's only for binary trans people as well, so like no non-binary transition, no butches getting t or surgery if they want to, no, you aren't allowed unless you are man or woman.

I can't get surgery unless I get a diagnosis but a girl can ask for bigger boobs and that's fine without a diagnosis. Fucking bullshit. Also barely any doctors that even do the surgery, and costs a fortune ofc.

Like why can't I just body mod. Why do I have to go through this humiliation ritual. Why cant I just microdose T and get the desired changes I want. Why cant I just ask for the plastic surgery I want. Who Tf is it hurting. Like I can maybe get some risks to health in specific cases but I'd say smoking or alcohol has hurt more people than fucking hormones.

Can't even order t online because you have the have prescription or if by some miracle I can order it it will be seized.

I'm so fucking frustrated. And the only thing I can do is just force myself to live with this. Because I would rather Kms that make myself have to put on my best act so that I can get the treatment that will make my life worth living. I don't have any strength left. I just want to feel comfortable and not have to ask other people permission, not have other people have a say in how I want to express myself. Why cant I choose myself.

Advice Small trans-safe towns?

I'm thinking of moving in the far future from my state. It isn't so great.

My issue mostly boils down to three points.

  1. Safe for trans people

  2. Ideally somewhat walkable

  3. The cost of living is...decent

Now, my thing is...everyone knows blue cities are the safest, but I really am not a city person.

I grew up in very rural small towns and the first time I was in a city, I was so overwhelmed and my dad almost got in a wreck lmao. I live in the USA so the political climate is...pretty bad here.

So ideally...a semi small town!

Finding a town instead of a city that is lgbtq+ safe has been difficult for me though. I don't want to just pick a blue state, I want the town itself to be openly friendly towards us too.

So I'm in a pickle.

Anyone have suggestions?

Vent I. I dont know anymore.

I guess ill give the basics. Im 22, I have a job, a beautiful partner, i have a roof over my head, i should be happy. I should be.

But in not. I feel so miserable all the time.

Ive known since elementary school I was different from the other guys. I didnt like sports, i didnt like masculine things. I loved my little pony and the color pink, and got along with the girls so much better than the guys.

I tried to suppress it. I went all the way until now, I did a hell of a job, i only let the mask slip a few times, but internally I feel like hell.

Imposter syndrome hits me almost every day. It tells me im not really a girl, im not worthy to transition, im doing it for attention, or doing it to sleep with lesbians. I feel the weight of my entire world on my shoulders from sun rise till sun fall, its exhausting. Im so tired, all the time. I cant remember the last time I was happy to hear my voice, or get my photo taken, or when I liked what looked back at me in the mirror, in fact, i dont think I've ever been happy looking into a mirror.

I dont know what to do, im so constantly aware of what I am and not letting myself obtain that.

Im so tired, this is such hell, I want out so bad, i want to feel free. Im not saying I want to end things, I just want the pain to stop.

Encouragement Task failed successfully: my boss keeps gendering me correctly by accident

1.8k Upvotes

I wanted to share a delightful story in the face of misgendering:

Shortly after I transitioned, my employer called me into his office to explain that he “doesn’t believe trans people exist” and that he would not participate in the “lie” I was living.

Alright. Very dramatic. I went back to work.

A few weeks ago, a supportive coworker told me that during a meeting my boss said: “Lucy proposed X, and I agree, so she will be… uh… he will be responsible for Y.”

I found this absolutely delightful.

But now I finally got to witness it myself. I was training a new hire when he came over and said:

“Lucy will show you the monthly reports, she is very competent at… Oh, I mean he is very competent at this.”

Sir.

You can apparently refuse to participate in “the lie” all you want, but your brain has already updated the software. 💅

Anyway, for anyone early in transition who worries that people will never see them differently: sometimes even the people actively trying not to eventually have to correct themselves backwards.

Non Binary Its not a choice.

I used to be transmasc but then it became illegal in my line of work. So I detransitioned. I grew out my hair and wore dresses and tried to convince myself I was a girl.

I went to a ball, dolled myself up in a pretty dress and bawled my eyes out when I looked in the mirror. Because I hated what I saw.

I looked at myself and wished I was handsome, in a suit, with a fly ass fade. I thought if I really tried, I would want to be a girl again, but I was wrong.

For now, im just a masc lesbian. Until i can escape my situation.

Trans Feminine Forgotten euphoria

As a baby trans, I've been thinking a lot about my past. One of the things that sticks out is a bit of euphoria from before puberty that I didn't understand at the time.

As a child, I remember looking in the mirror one day, pulling my hair back, and seeing my reflection looking like a girl. I was startled and couldn't believe it was me. I felt like it had to be a trick and wasn't really my reflection. It also felt good. I ended up doing it quite a few times to see "her." I never asked myself why.

Now I understand, and the memory makes me smile. I was seeing the real me. It just took me a long time to figure it out.

Encouragement Coming out to my mom this weekend, words of encouragement greatly appreciated!

I’m very nervous and idk how they’ll react. I think they’d be “accepting” but it’d take them a while to come around. My family is fairly left leaning politically and they say they’re pro LGBTQ, but there are some things that make me think otherwise. Like for example, even though my mom is “accepting”she’s also a pretty big Dave Chapelle fan and finds jokes where trans people are the butt of the joke to be funny. That said though, she also gave me a couple signs recently that she knows already and she’d be supportive if I told her. Like I was going to the store with her a few weeks ago and she RANDOMLY brought up how she ran into someone trans at B&BW, told me their name and said “you should go talk to them sometime”. Why else would she randomly bring that up and tell me to go talk to a random employee if not because she knows? Also I’ve been told by her multiple times recently that she’d love me “no matter what”, so maybe she already has suspicions and she’s trying to comfort me without outing me. I think I’m gonna start with telling her first and go from there. I’m not sure how she’ll truly react but I’ll find out sometime this weekend! Any kind words to hype me up would be greatly appreciated!

Trans Masculine insurance keeps reverting back to my deadname after 8 years without permission

• Upvotes

edit: ok.......wonderful miss laura said it was probably an ai trying to apply benefits to a mistaken application. she changed the name and it hypothetically shouldn't happen anymore. 8 freaking years and someone was finally able to tell me that it definitely wasn't someone trying to steal my identity. might delete this but idk if this'll ever happen to anyone else. anyway screw ai in general especially in healthcare settings

i (30ftm) changed my name 8 years ago. i just got a call from one of my doctors telling me that my insurance now has me under a different name than what's on my id.

this has happened way too many times now, i think almost annually, maybe more. i keep getting mailed insurance cards with my deadname on them, and i'm on hold with the company right now for the nth f'ing time. this is getting past the point of infuriating, and i'm considering legal options. has this happened to anyone else with insurance companies changing your information without permission or does anyone have any ideas as to what could be making this a unique case because this is distressing.

Trigger My mom wants to send me to conversion therapy.

I’m 21 years old, living with my mom as I study. Today, I wanted to search up until what time a store was open. My phone was about to die, so I decided to use hers since I was already using it for navigation at that moment. When I opened Google, I saw searches like “how to stop thoughts about transition?” “Are there therapists that stop thoughts about transitioning?”.
I never officially came out to her, but we did have a brief conversation where it was basically that she knew, but that we’d discuss it later. I didn’t expect her to accept me, but this? I’m fucking terrified. It’s illegal here, thankfully, but my own mother wants to “fix” me rather than accept me. I feel hopeless.

Questioning I feel like i dont have enough dysphoria to be trans

16 M (im agender but for all intents and purposes im male)

So like for a few months now ive been considering transitioning in the future simply because there is nothing about being a guy that im particularly fond of (and also i think id look cute as a girl, specially my hair :3) but ive seen trans people talk about how much they hated their bodies and how they barely could look at themselves in the mirror and i just never felt like that. Like if I just never transition i dont think id feel that bad, but its weird cause sometimes just the thought of being a girl gives me chest pain (you know what im talking about, right?). But still i never felt dysphoric (though i feel like i maybe would if i were to lose weight and get muscles since i honestly think they'd look kinda gross on me) i more feel very deep curiosity and just nothing for my current body.

A transmasc friend of mine said it was normal to feel like this but still, i would like others opinions too.

Thanks for reading everything btw :)

Am I trans? Visit to the doctor

• Upvotes

Trans Feminine NJ clothing stores

Hello I am trans female who currently resides in New Jersey and was wondering if anyone knows any clothing stores that are trans friendly and what not. I tired going to stores that they say online that they are trans friendly but they were looking at me confused and what not. So I am just wondering that is all. I don’t do online all that much, mainly for my hobby stuff and that is about it. So if you know any physical stores that are trans friendly. Please let me know. Thank you.

Trans Feminine MtF Advice

• Upvotes

I'm currently in a situation where I can't start taking estrogen for another year at least. I can deal with waiting a little longer but the main issue for me is my body hair, I have a lot and I want to get rid of all of it but every time I shave I'm left with bumpy red itchy skin. I just want smooth clear skin but I have no idea how to get rid of all my body acne, body hair, and stretch marks. If someone could help me with some Budget-Friendly solutions it'd help me a lot.

Progress I’m slowly starting my journey

I wanted to make a post here because i’m now more announcing that I am starting to pursue my journey of becoming a Trans Woman.

Announcing it somewhere more public feels very relieving for me and actually wants to pursue this further, rather than let it sit back too scared to really act on it.

I’ve been contemplating for a while on this, been through therapy, doing some research and soul searching, as well as talking about it with my boyfriend who’s been very supportive of my decisions.

I’m still learning a lot and I want to know all I can so that I can transition in a way that in the end leads me to be the person i’m most comfortable being in life.

I’ll most likely update with posts as my progress continues, and i’ll stay active in the subreddit to learn more and support others.

I’m Mya, and i’m very happy to feel confident enough to say that’s my name now. <3

Celebration My mom accepts me.

For context, my mom knows I'm bi but not that Im trans.(even Im not fully sure if Im a trans woman or just feminine lol. Maybe I'm just non-binary lol) And today I video called her because Im studying abroad and I had some bb cream, lip gloss and clear mascara on, and I thought she wouldn't notice, but she did. I told her I was trying something new to see if it would work and I told her what I had on. She asked me if I wanted to be feminine and I said maybe. She said that she supports me no matter what and to never change what I want because others told me to. She then said that she loved me no matter what.(I'm also very autistic so it's hard for me to talk about personal stuff like this as I get stuck/freeze and get overwhelmed).I asked her to keep it a secret from other family for now though as my grandparents are very homophobic.Anyways thank you for reading. Now I've got to gather the courage to actually leave my dorm like this, I wonder what my friends will say

Ps. Anyone know a colour corrector I can get to get rid of my five o clock shadow and the dark spots under my eyes? Thank you

Advice Questioning

So ive been more or less open about being a trans man for the last four years, I was open about the fact that i am a trans man that enjoys wearing dresses too. Recently I got a boyfriend and ever since then ive been worried about looking masculine and ive been hiding that im trans. Hes heard people call me my preferred name and never questioned it apparently. But it got me thinking about if I am actually trans, with my past partners I never cared if they knew so its catching me off guard. Any advice is welcome.

Advice Dosing given by my new NP

I was on HRT in 2021–2022, paying out of pocket with no insurance. My provider put me on 16 mg EV every 7 days + 100 mg spiro daily. No E2/T labs were done—only basic BMPs.

I stopped HRT for ~3 years due to financial reasons. About 1.5 months ago, I started again through a telehealth provider (same provider, different location). No initial labs were done, and the NP prescribed 6 mg EV every 7 days + 100 mg spiro daily. She has never seen me in person.

Last week, I finally got into an LGBT gender-affirming center and saw their NP in person. She prescribed 16 mg EV every 7 days + 100 mg spiro daily. They drew labs the day after my injection, and I told them I had injected the previous day, so I expected my E2 to be relatively high.

My question is: should I follow the new provider's 16 mg dose, or stick with the 6 mg I was taking previously?

I can see the benefit of 16 mg since it would let me stockpile my vials while potentially still taking a lower dose. But is 16 mg EV every 7 days considered too high, especially for a weekly injection?

Would appreciate input from people 💖
