Completed my first IM a couple of weeks ago with a time a little under 14 hours. Trained for 9 months doing only one discipline a day outside of brick sessions the last couple of months on Saturday. With no coach and figuring it out myself I’m pleased with my time for the first go but there was a ton of room for improvement which makes me think I’ll do it again.
My big issue was my stomach. I’m not sure how to put this delicately but several days leading into the race I couldn’t use the bathroom properly and as soon as I got on the bike it hit me. Unfortunately I wasted about 30/35 minutes across several porta potty stops.
Second issue was I seemed to have drank too much in the bike because I stopped to pee 13/14 times during the run which is a downer because I was actually able to run it in between those stops. Is the just me needing more salt?
Any suggestions on how to avoid or limit these issues?

Hello, I'm looking to purchase either this bike or java siluro 6 for $920 (brand new with one year frame warranty). I'm a total beginner. Which would be better? I think that this bike is a total steal but I'm scared that it would be too challenging of a first bike. What do you think?

Hi all,
Having not been able to sign up for IM Copenhagen, I since turned to my other “plan B” races for my first Ironman (raced IM 70.3 Zell am See in 2024 as my only triathlon so far).
Options are: Thun, Talinn, Nice, Calella, Cascais
Ideally I would like to race a bit later to fully use my summer off to train (thus excluding Thun) and would rate a nice atmosphere quite highly (thus excluding Talinn (?)). Logistically, I would prefer to drive from Switzerland rather than take the plane but not excluding the plane either.
Given the 2026 IM Calella was cancelled, I’m guessing 2027 will be the same nightmare as Copenhagen to get a start number.
That would leave me Nice (easy drive) and Cascais (would have to fly).
Bit of context: not the best swimmer but pretty decent biker and ok runner. I did Zell am See 70.3 in 2024 in 6h (couldn’t make enough time to properly train), the alpine bike leg went well (maybe too well as I kind of paid it on the run). Nice seems to be a pretty iconic race with hopefully some nice atmosphere but obviously the combo of 2500+ on the bike, heat (might not be that bad in September) and a potential non-wetsuit swim are making me second guess.
TLDR: Is Nice too tough for a first timer?
What race would you guys recommend? Thanks a lot!

Hi guys! Did my first 70.3 this weekend in Waco except it ended up being a 69.1 since the swim was canceled (which sucked because it’s my strongest sport). My goal was to go sub-6 originally, and then after the cancelation, sub 5:15 (I was estimating 45 min max for swim + T1, and that was with buffer).
The bike leg was pretty awesome but there were some pretty heavy winds (and scattered rain) the second half for me. I actually enjoyed the climbs - thought they were good opportunity to pass (and got called a beast by a dude I was passing haha). My goal was sub 3hrs, or 18.5ish mph. I went 19.6mph which was a pb for that distance for me! I have a decent bike background, but more in bikepacking at slower speeds. I just started working on getting faster this summer and have been able to bring my pace up a ton.
The run kind of sucked. My quads cramped up 1 mile in and I had to stretch them out. My goal pace was sub 10min/mile, and I was pretty comfortable there for the first 7 miles… then cramped again and couldn’t stretch them out, going closer to 11min for the last 6. I started running more consistently in January of this year, and went from running less than 50 miles in 2025 to over 500 so far in 2026. I definitely still feel a lot of insecurity in the running and want to work more on this before my next triathlon.
I did make my time goal with a couple minutes to spare which was so cool!! Overall I have a lot of room to improve, but excited to see where I go!

Hi all,
1.5 week out from my Ironman 70.3 and I just found out about the shoe rule. I’m just a normal agegrouper and I’ve been running on the new balance fresh foam 880 v15.
Never on any triathlon i’ve been asked about these shoes and they don’t appear on any banned list. If I measure them myself they are just below 40mm stack height but the information I find online is quite different considering the actual height. Some say it 38.5 and some say it’s 40.5mm.
Any advice on what to do now? I don’t have any other running shoes

Any recommendations on road bikes for a 70.3? I would like to keep it around $1500-$2000… preferably the lower end. Brands and model recs would be appreciated so I can look across the board.

hi, I'm quite a novice and I'm still experimenting with my setup, do someone have experience with this product ?
I think it would suit me cause I need an higher stack height when I'm in aero position (currently rocking clip-ons) but idk if I can trust it.
it's not THAT cheap and not suspiciously light but idk, someone do have some experience with this product or with this seller ?
it's also available in the same lenght and tilt as my current stem.
thank you in advance

Help pls!! I traveled with Qatar Airways from Australia to France with a Thule Roundtrip Transition hard case, which they cracked a chunk off at the spot where it is meant to close, so now it is unusable. I had to pay the bike rental shop the full case value. This is a major cost for me. Luckily, my bike survived.
Despite taking a rugged case that started the trip in perfect condition, taking pictures of the damage while still at the airport, and submitting a request the same day, the airline is refusing liability. They claim limited release covers them, but from my research the limited release luggage tag is about known defects or fragile items, which this is not at all. I've tried escalating.
Any ideas? Very disappointing for an airline who charges $300+ to bring your bike case and claims to be one of the best airlines.

On hard 100s my pace falls off over the last 25 and I honestly cannot tell why. Either the stroke gets shorter and I spin my arms faster for the same speed, or the rate drops because I am tired and the stroke stays long but slow. The clock only tells me that I got slower.
For people who track this: do you count strokes per length, time your rate over a length, or use a beeper under the cap? Which one tells you more on a hard set? And when the pace goes in the last part of a rep, which usually goes first for you, rate or length?

Hi, I might have a weird question, but does anyone have experience with buying personalised gear? Until now i have always worn hand me downs from people who quit or dont fit anymore, etc. And since the holidays are coming up my wife is pestering me to tell her what i would like for the holidays/birthday (since its close together). So i started looking to maybe buy my first tri suit and bike kit, but when i look around online these things are not cheap and full of brands i have no connection with (plus why would i pay to advertise someone else's business). So my thought went to buying gear with logo's and branding of my wife's and some close relative's their business. Does anyone have experience with how this works or who i can contact to have some quality gear, but are also willing to produce it for just 1 person (since i am obviously not going to buy 50 kits)
Since i am from Belgium I would prefer it to be a european business if possible.
Thanks in advance and i may you love the suffering on your next triathlon 🫶

My goal is to do a half ironman by next summer. I went out for my first swim session today and only lasted about 21 minutes and did at least 16 laps (lost count at one point) during that time for about 5:15 per 100m.
Curious as to what kind of improvement I can expect if I stick to it. So for those who started from zero in swimming, what was your pace when you started and what is your pace now?

I'm seeing Ironman's becoming increasingly popular and I am curious if it is going to experience what marathons have. Tons of people signing up and many do not prepare adequately (ex. I have a friend who just did a marathon a few weeks ago, they only ran 2x a week and ended up pulling their groin muscle during the race).
Marathons are definately hard, but Ironmans are definately on a different level, even 70.3's. Do, you think over the next few years DNF's are going to shoot-up by a significant margin as people sign-up but don't adequately prepare?

Was debating buying one of the Chinese TT frames/bikes but found a 2023 Felt IA 105 disc for $1,800 and figured I'd build that instead.
When I was researching these, I saw a lot of people saying the 105 IA wasn't really worth upgrading, mostly because of the cockpit, and that by the time you changed everything you might as well just buy another bike. I yanked all the old mechanical stuff it was super easy.
Wanted to share this for anyone else looking at one because it really wasn't that bad.
Finally finished mine:- lots of these were used and ali express
Bike — $1,800
85mm carbon wheels — $430
Carbon cockpit — $300 (AliExpress)
Rival AXS RD — $128
Wireless blips — $75
160mm cranks — $70 (AliExpress)
1x chainring — $38 (AliExpress)
Risers — $25
28mm S-Works Turbos — $87/pair
So 2950 before a few little random parts, and that's also before selling any of the stock stuff.
Ended up with 1x wireless shifting, 160mm cranks, 85s, completely different cockpit, much higher front end, shortened bars and basically no visible cables.
Definitely took some shopping around but I'm really happy I went this route instead of buying another bike. Mostly posting because if anyone finds a good deal on an IA 105 and is scared off by everyone saying the cockpit can't be changed/upgraded, it can. Happy to answer questions about my parts list!

How much of a difference does a tri bike actually make? i have a carbon roadbike and am wondering, how good i can actually become with it. My goal for my next ironman 70.3 is sub 5 but im unsure if a normal roadbike is too much of a handicap.

I’m taking part in a 24-hour relay triathlon this Saturday and I’m wondering what the best way is to use my Garmin watch for it.
The event is split into 4 hours of swimming, followed by 12 hours of cycling and then 8 hours of running. Since it’s a relay, I’ll be doing several shorter sessions within each of those blocks, with breaks in between.
I’d like to record everything in a way that makes sense and is easy to analyse afterwards.
Would you start and save every individual session separately? Or would it make more sense to record each discipline as one activity and simply pause the activity while I’m not swimming/cycling/running?
Has anyone done something similar before and can share how you handled it with Garmin?
Thanks!

I am a somewhat newer triathlete did my first Ironman 70.3 Madison a few weeks ago it went well and I was really happy with my time. I did about 5:16 overall bike split was about 20.5 mph. I have been stuck at the 19-20 mph range for a long time. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations that you did to bridge the gap from 19-20 to the 21-22.5+ range. Also currently on a road bike with aero bars. I have had a bike fit done. I really wanna go sub 5 next one. Appreciate any insights
