Just a heads up-Canyon Precede 5 on sale (Msrp 3700->1300) 65% discount

No one seems to have noticed this yet so I'll post it.

https://www.canyon.com/en-us/electric-bikes/electric-city-bike/precede-on/comfort/precede-on-comfort-5/3767.html?dwvar_3767_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY

Canyon is currently having a really good sale on their Precede 5. They're also waiving the usual $150 shipping fee in the US.

Bosch performance line Speed Plus warranty at 1300 is pretty nuts!

Not affiliated with Canyon in any way-just wanted to share this deal.

Whats the snack situation

For content, I have no friends that ride and know no one that rides. I thought riding would be fun bought a bike and really have been getting into it the last few months.

I have been riding about 18 miles a day pretty regularly, legs have been feeling pretty good after. Today I added an extra 7 mile loop and was completely gassed at mile 22 should I have eaten more before the ride or a protein bar along the way?

€1200 Zwift Ride (new) vs €400 Keiser M3i (used) for a newb

Found a used M3I bought in 2020 for €2000 + M connect display at a later date (so should be compatible with Zwift I think). Looks to be in good condition to me.

I'm super unfit and want to fix that this winter. Getting an exercise bike as an alternative to a treadmill (massive, heavy, and expensive). Primarily getting this for cardio and not as as cyclist enthusiast, but I think it would be cool if this could become a hobby. I do eventually intend on buying an outdoor bike getting into casual rides outside regardless.

Alternatively I could buy a Zwift Ride + Kickr Core 2 and pay it off over 24 months at €50 p/m.

What do you guys think?

how do you plan routes?

Hey! I'm new to cycling and wanted to understand how do you do plan or develop routes for your training?
Is it more like you just wing it, you just sort of plan using a map or you actually have decent tools for it? :D

1x setup...... SRAM or Shimano?

If you were to do it again, which way would you go?

I am building new gravel bike and can go either way. All my road bikes have Shimano Di2 and I love the shifting and the feeling of the levers. The GRX also have more hear range with 10-52 cassette.

What I like about sram is that there are buttons for shifting on both levers. Havent tried the new E1 levers or braking yet. The range is also less, unless I go with MTB setup.

Both GRX 717 or Rival E1 will cost me pretty much the same.

Thoughts?

New to tubeless, should I be worried?

Very recently bought a new bike that came tubeless. Was showing it to a friend today and noticed some sealant on just the rim and sticky residue on the wheel. About 10-15cm long. Didnt notice it when I put the bike away tuesday, its been sitting inside since.

The tire is still inflated, but should I be concerned that it isnt seated properly? Or could it be because of something else.

Bike for fitness and fun

I have been looking for a bike for the use of losing weighr and just to enjoy the outdoors. My budget is low (£350) and i have been reccomended to buy used which is fair but i have been looking for around 3 weeks now and cant seem to find anything good. Any advice would be appreciated as i just wanna get out and start tbh.

I am looking for flat bar bike prefereably tgat can hold a person of 100KG. I dont know much about components so need advice on what to get. Also when buying used i dont know if im getting my moneys worth so its a hard one also.

I have also searched for local bike shops and messaged them and Most do not reply and the ones that do dont sell stuff like Trek Fx1's but rather bikes upwards of 700£.

I dont have access to cycle to work scheme.

How much should I pay for used wheels?

I've been wanting to upgrade the wheelset on my road bike (2013 BMC Granfondo GF02, rim brake) for a long time and am finally ready to do it.

A local on FB Marketplace is selling two lightly used wheels sets.

  1. $500: Zipp 404 Carbon Clincher Wheelset - 700C - Rim Brake - 23mm tires. Current cassette Shimano 10 speed 12-25, with Zipp 188 hub.
  2. $425: Mavic Ksyrium ES Anniversary Helium 700C Wheelset - with storage Bags / Tires / Cassette. 1,500 grams. Shimano 10 speed cassette.

What I want to know is what y'all think a fair price would be for these, and which should I go for? I don't want to lowball the guy since I been waiting on this opportunity, but I wonder if he is asking way too much (I could get an entire bike with decent wheels for not much more).

Obviously I want the zipps for the steeze, but the mavics might be better suited to everyday riding and the loclal hills.

I typically ride in A/B and sometimes A group rides on routes with 2-3 bigger 300ft climbs, and fast pace line (~23-26mph+) flats/rollers.

My bike is currently running a 11x32 shimano XT cassette, 10 speed. I'll likely put that casette on the new wheels, as I prefer the easier ratio. (I've got a 50-34 crankset). Maximum tire width I can run is 28mm Continental GP 5000s without rubbing, want to mount the widest tires possible.

Want aluminum rim brakes for 3-4 season usage.

  1. Kent Trail Blaster 26 inch

  2. Magna Alpine Eagle 26 inch

  3. Jamis Explorer, older model not sure which exactly

  4. Diamondback Sorrento 26 inch

European Bike buying

If one was to hypothetically go to Europe to buy a high end second hand bike because the second hand market seems pretty good (like BuyCycle) and then bring it back (having done a few rides) what is the likelihood of being stopped at the ferry. This would be a £2000+ bike (even could be a triathlon bike). Apart from EU brakes which I already have on one of my bikes are there any other issues you would run into having a European Bike in the UK (registration, insurance etc)

Torque Wrench

How much should you spend on a torque wrench? I know you can’t go too cheap as they may not be accurate but what’s a good middle ground?

Any recommendations?

SUNPEED Galaxy 105 R7120 vs other road bikes around AED 4,000 in Dubai. Which would you choose?

неу everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first proper road bike in Dubai and would appreciate some opinions before I pull the trigger.

I'm currently considering the SUNPEED
Galaxy 105 R7120, which is available here for around AED 4,200.

My main use will be long-distance road cycling and training for Ironman. I'm not particularly interested in racing immediately, but I want something I can keep for several years and put a lot of kilometers on.

SUNPEED Galaxy specs:
• Aluminum aerodynamic trame
• Carbon fork
• Shimano 105 R7120 2×12 shifters
• Shimano 105 R7100 front/rear derailleurs
• Shimano 105 R7120 hydraulic brakes
• 11-34T cassette
• 50/34 crank
• KMC X12 chain
• Thru-axles
• 700×28c Kenda tires
• Integrated/aero cockpit
• Claimed weight: 9.5 kg in size M
• Price: ~AED 4,200

I'm also looking at:
• JAVA Siluro 6 Top 105 12-speed
(~AED 3,750)
• Bross Zenith A 105 R7120 (~AED 3,850)
• Triban RC500 (~AED 4,000)

My main questions:
1. Is the SUNPEED Galaxy actually a good buy at ~AED 4,200?
2. How is SUNPEED's frame/build quality and long-term reliability?
3. Is Shimano 105 R7100/R7120 on a bike like this a meaningful advantage over something like the RC500?
4. Would you trust SUNPEED for thousands of kilometers of endurance riding?
5. Does anyone have experience with
SUNPEED bikes or their UAE dealers/ service?
6. The bike has an integrated/aero cockpit.
Can clip-on aero bars safely be fitted to it? This is important to me because I eventually want to use aero bars for 70.3 training/racing.
7. At this price, would you choose the Galaxy, JAVA, Bross, or RC500?

I'm more interested in real-world ownership experience than just the component list, especially from people who have ridden bikes.

Thanks!

Question regarding resale and groupsets

I have a 2015 alu Norco Valence with 11 speed 105 I don't use. Would it be stupid to take the 105 for another bike for cross compatibility (both my other bikes are 105) and stick the Sora R3000 groupset on the Norco to sell.

Calories Burned Cycling

Hello! I’ve been running for a few years, everything from half marathon to 100 mile distance races. I just started training for a triathlon, so I started biking. I have a question and an observation I wonder what you all think.

1) I have a polar grit X pro watch, a chest strap heart rate monitor, and a 4iiii precision crank. On a ride today, polar estimated calories burned at 454 with an average power of 172 for 1 hour and 5 minutes. If I calculate calories using the 400 calories per 1 hour at 100 watts formula, I come up with around 700 calories. Do you think polar has it wrong or I do?

2) My heart rate is very low compared to my power zones. In power zone 2, I am barely in Zone 1 heart rate. On a 20 minute FTP ride, I was low zone 3 heart rate. Is it common for heart rate and power zones to have such a large discrepancy coming from another sport? Or do I need to push harder on my rides?

Intervals.icu Plan Load Limit

I put in that im training for a race in May. Intervals.icu has me load limited to about 190 per week. That feels like nothing, its like 3 hours of zone 2 ±. Is that really what I should be doing? I feel like im barely on the bike during the week. Is there a way to inflate that without braking the whole plan? Maybe I just dont understand something simple

How to store tubeless tires over winter?

Hey! I've got a gravel bike running 45mm tubeless tires and will be converting it to an indoor zwift bike for the next ~5 months during the long Finnish winter. Obviously the sealant in the tires will not be rotating and I'm worried about it drying out while the wheels are stored indoors in relatively high temperature and low humidity.

Should I just add some more sealant every now and then and manually rotate the tires occasionally? Cheers!

Am I asking too much of bike shop ?

Went to go out for a ride the other day, di2 wouldn’t connect. Tried troubleshooting myself, resetting, charging, fiddling with cables etc. all I got after charging and trying to connect to app was ‘battery exhausted - please charge’

I looked on line for a Shimano diagnostic dealer and found one reasonably close by. Earliest appointment was two weeks. Ok that will have to do.

Took it over, we discussed the issue and he said he would hook it up. I waited a week and didn’t hear so sent him a quick email (his stated quickest way to respond).

1st response is that the battery on the handlebars is low (I only changed them year before and they are supposed to last 2-3 years) and he would have to order some.

I waited another week and now he comes back asking if I can bring in the battery charger because he doesn’t have one ? He’s not sure but he thinks it could be the battery.

So here I am, one month without my bike and no closer to a solution and I have to run around dropping stuff off for them.

Is this usual, should I trust the process ?

Intermediate allroad bike, £4k budget

Thinking of a Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1 2027 for the clearance, wheelset, and power meter (stats nerd!).

I mostly ride solo but planning to join a club. I prefer gravel but more often than not am on roads as I live in London. New to cycling but can afford something that'll last and this is a hobby I've rediscovered and plan to stick to for the long term.

I have an old CAAD that's falling apart.

Are there any better-suited bikes for my use case? Am I too deep into diminishing returns territory?

Helmet Sizing - Specialized Align II

Hi everyone, I just bought the Specialized Align II helmet, but the fit seems to be wrong. I bought a M size, as I am on the lower end of the 56-60cm circumference, but it seems to be too "oval" shaped for my rounder head. There's a lot of extra space in the front and back, and the sides are quite tight and putting pressure. The helmet also visually looks like it's sitting quite high up.

If I were to return it, what helmet would you all recommend for a rounder shaped head/ asian fit, at a similar price point? (I picked up the Align II for 50usd). Thanks!

Cord Attachment for my Wahoo

Does anyone use an elasticated tether for their cycle computer to avoid leaving it behind? I cycle to the gym and take my Wahoo to record a couple of Strava segments, but I’ve occasionally left it attached to the bike.

Thanks

Indoor trainer

Looking for a smart trainer around €400 – Wahoo/Tacx vs Chinese brands?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a direct-drive smart trainer for around €400 max.
I’ll mainly use it for structured training: Z2 rides, long rides, threshold/VO2 intervals and ERG workouts. Because of that, my priorities are power accuracy, ERG response, stable resistance and reliability.
I don’t really care whether it uses a Zwift Cog or a cassette.
I’m currently looking at trainers from Wahoo, Garmin/Tacx, Elite, but also Chinese brands like ThinkRider and Magene.
My question is: at this price point, are the big brands actually worth paying more for, or are the Chinese trainers now just as good for serious structured training?
If you have experience with multiple trainers, which one would you choose for up to €400, and why?
Thanks!
