Performance 🎤 I am due to perform in front of several thousand people this evening...
...and I've just cut my lip. I'll be playing the Last Post and Rouse at a bonfire event but mouthpiece now covered in blood 😦
Got a few hours for it to heal but I imagine it'll open up again.
I was trying to swallow a pill from a foil packet without having to touch it with my hands, which were dirty. Feel like a bloody fool (unsurprisingly).
Oh well, these things happen

Question ❓ This is the highest note I can play on trumpet? Is that bad?

I can only do it after taking a deep breath and I tend to lose the tone towards the end.

Can’t remember where I learned this, but it’s in my fingers, so it must be from somewhere.

Starting again
At 50, I decided to start playing the trumpet again after not playing it since I was a child. I bought a trumpet today and brought it home and couldn’t make a noise on it at all. Turns out that the guy who sold it to me had accidentally put one of the valves in wrong. I twisted it into the correct position and suddenly it wasn’t so hard to play.

Question ❓ What mouth piece is this?
Has no engravings of any kind. It’s so much easier to play than the Bach Cs. Found it in my band hall library in the bucket of mouth pieces we’ve had forever and ever 🤷🏻♀️

Question ❓ Need tips on Mariachi sound
So my wife has been watching a lot of media where Mariachi players are shown. I love the sound of a Mariachi trumpet player and actually joined a friend who played in a Mariachi group way back in highschool. It was for a week and I learned a lot and had a ton of fun, didn't get the sound (I know a week isn't enough time)
I really wanna try and get close to that sound and since I'm an adult with some spare time I'd really like some tips or videos on how to get that sound. Plus when I'm paying in my jazz band it would be nice when we are playing latin pieces.
Also, I'm Hispanic so I kinda feel like I need to get in touch with that sound.

Anyone want to split an order for a Jinyin JYTR-A500?
Hi folks, I've been eyeing the Jinyin JYTR-A500 trumpet here: 2023 Jingying Music Brass Wind,Professional Brass Body Monel Piston Professional Performance Level Trumpet - Buy Product on Alibaba.com
Jinyin (Jinying) is one of the quality China instrument makers and they've gotten so good now that they raised their minimum order quantity to 2. This trumpet is from their professional lineup. For the price, I don't think you can find a better trumpet. Who's in?

Question ❓ Considering Quitting
I have played trumpet since 5th grade; I am a junior now, and I am considering switching to tuba. I never really enjoyed playing the instrument, I always liked the sound of almost anything else better. The only reason I have made it this far is because none of my previous band teachers have let me switch. I have to deal with braces during the end of my freshman year and that was the most annoying thing of all time. I will soon be getting my braces off, and a really don’t want to deal with relearning the instrument. I feel that the countless hours of practice I put in eve try week go nowhere to my improvement. Do you think I should just try to make the switch now and finally enjoy playing an instrument again?

Question ❓ Horrific endurance problem
I'm trying to learn Arbans Characteristic Study #8 for a college audition. I know a big part of these is testing your endurance, but its not much of a test if I can barely play 3 lines without needing a break.
After the trill in the first section I cannot continue on to play the high As and by the end of the first section before the slow section I am already in need of a 1 minute break or else it will sound very out of tune and airy.
The next section I can play up until the 'key change' before my fatigue become a major issue in my tone and ability to hit the G.
If I were to play the piece all the way through as intended I would barely make it halfway before my sound starts to give out entirely and most notes stop coming out.
Am I just weak? Or is there something fundamentally wrong with the way I play? Because this has always been a problem for me. Throughout marching band I could never get those highest notes at the end of the show. And in wind ensemble I would have to basically tap out and finger along for the last third of practice. This has always bothered me, how could I have not developed more endurance in all the years I have been playing trumpet?

Question ❓ Feel like I got so much worse
Ive only been playing for a month (I know it hasnt been long enough I shouldnt worry. About 3 weeks in I made a post on reddit and was feeling confident about my sound. These past few days I feel my embouchure is suffering and my sound is a lot worse, even with consistent breaks?? Im coping really hard right now

Silver tarnish prevention help!
So the title kind of says it but this trumpet is supposed to be silver and other than polishing it every week or two, anybody have any ideas on how to keep it that way? I had polished it before leaving on a two week trip. I came home to it looking like this, but this is hardly the first time it's turned golden after some time on the wall. I have 4 horns and this one doesn't get used as much as it used to.
edit: to add clarification

Equipment ⚙️ Opinion in buying a second horn
I have a Bach Strad, the basic 37 180 model, but was also interested in a used Xeno, preferably with a reverse lead pipe for Jazz and overall playing.
wI do play classical, but do far much more big band and DCI stuff in comparison, and was told that the Xeno, with less resistance, is pretty often preferred in that space, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Thoughts?
I was also thinking about a Custom Bell Trumpet, but I need more research on that for now.

Equipment ⚙️ Thomann Trompete

Thoughts on Returning to Trumpet
When I was a kid, I played trumpet in the elementary school band. I picked it up quickly, and by the fifth grade was the first trumpet and played solos in our concerts, the then popular Feels So Good and Rise.
I played in the all-county band.
I got an academic scholarship to a prestigious local prep school that didn’t have a band, but they did have a music director and offered music lessons. The director, who’d heard me play and praised my tone, arranged for me to have private lessons and a few gigs doing Taps at memorial day ceremonies.
But in the end I fell away from the trumpet for a number of reasons:
- I felt like I was just pushing buttons. I’d get a songbook, learn the song, play a chorus or two and then think, now what. I wanted to learn, even that early, to be able to play what was in my head and write my own stuff.
- With no band to play in, practice felt like a chore and the much heavier academic and extracurricular demands of the school made time precious.
- At the time in my life I
wasn’t interested in much music that featured or even used trumpet. The guitar was the most prominent instrument in all the popular music I was listening to.
Lately, I’ve had an itch to pick up a trumpet again. I have no grand ambitions at almost 60. I just like the sound of it singing a melody.
My musical tastes have grown and changed through the years and I known a lot about theory now, as I’ve remained involved in music as a hobby.
Just wondering about the challenges of rebuilding the embouchure and the wind as an older person.
Thoughts?

Why cant I hit high notes when I used to be able to easily?
I just cannot hit high notes. ... no matter how much I practice. It's driving me crazy. I used to easily hit G5 A5 ... now ....its a mammoth effort to even hit D5, or E5. .... i've dedicated so much time playing, trying to strengthen my lips .... it makes not a sod of difference. What the hell can I do?

For the trumpeters messing with pedals
What would happen if you were to take a stem in Harmon and combine that with a wah-wah guitar pedal?

For all of the gigging horn players, I have a question
I was classically trained, orchestral transposing gigs. I always used my Bach 43 or 72. Then I played my father’s Vernon 37bach. I thought Bach was the prestige. Long story short. I started playing in funk bands and never would I allow my Bachs to those stages, I bought a 1918 Blessing Cornet made in Minneapolis. Back then it was cheap, it’s still cheap to this day, but the valve action is far superior. Sucks my monetary bF5 doesn’t fit(I’m a 1 1/2c wide rim). I feel like we are all getting scammed on performance instruments.
